well good morning my favorite people on YouTube
yeah I guess our summit past called trolls or everyone but you know who you are it's going to be another beautiful day I'm sure Sun is just coming up it's five o'clock it was a chilly morning now whoo
why don't we even say chilly it makes me think of food there's nothing to do with cold or maybe the idea is a hot chili when it's cold feels good so look I need a sip I'm sorry Josie gets up later so I can take the whole pot well it's not full so from here on to the next three days I'm not sure what's going to pop up on this camera I want that you know put a little bit of energy show you a little bit around what's going on you know I'm not going to show you every time I make a fire and all that stuff a chop wood but if anything I'll give you glimpses of some stuff because remember we're here to enjoy the wilderness we always loved you having but we always love having you around and you get my first coffee yet so be careful what I'm going to say anyway enough of my rambling in the morning oh it's going to be a beautiful day I'm telling ya just gotta love it this morning the sounds at four o'clock there I know how many birds were chirping and the loons ducks landing taking all I mean there's beautiful music I'm sounding like a poet now alright so I'll open up the camera show you a few things I know that today we're going to be there's a place I want to explore so it'd be a pretty good hike that's it and I'll planning anything you know head time anyway okay talk to you guys maybe some other day or maybe today one more thing you guys
I do read the Bible and like to bring your coffee out well you probably know about this
I'm a little bit late with stuff this is a waterproof I mean completely waterproof New Testament I could throw this in the lake the river and it wouldn't damage it whatsoever pages would stay intact the ink would stay put just let it dry out which is really cool this one here was gifted to me by a friend but most importantly brother the Lord Mitch from native survival it's very handy it comes with me everywhere I go
so let me give you a little close-up if ever this interest you not too sure where you get it just googled up it's in a camel and it's really nice actually there's a match see how it's hiding haha but it's about I know six inches by four about I'm seeing whoa okay the water drop up there but it waterproof Bible this is the kdv anyway very handy I really love this [Applause]
all right so now we just got off the trail because I want to explore higher and it just goes way up there here right now I'm following a game trail and if you can see it right there which is moose you'd better hear that up that is climb at the top see what's up there you climbed one one side of the ridge anyway goes way down there and I saw a moose oh there's me there's the moose oh okay so now it's a little higher well you can't see but we'll go check out the other side but first check out a little bit more here
okay well once again nice little chunk chugga right there we haven't harvested any yet just a little piece for our stay here for tea at night may harvest just one one nice big piece per home but we don't need that much okay that that stick strong enough you just think okay that's going to come off easy just give it a sideways my god you just need a stronger stick you may need to there we go try it
he always got it you need to almost there you go nice look at that there's at least two to three inches sticking out so that's going to regrow let's see that beautiful piece my nice look at the quality of this thing yeah see the more this tree is still very healthy so the more it's healthy more quality juggler you're going to get now I know a lot of you know about cha guys started talking about four or five years ago if you don't just Google is up or I got some videos about it and there's the other piece there's more probably black on this one that's country me here that's good both is good okay well done sister link alright so as usual ladies are very innovative in the woods
had to why branches tied together and she wrapped her not Jamal but I can't remember what that is so all you need to do is grab one stick and carry the truck out wherever sacks are already full right that's a pretty neat idea if I do say so myself well awesome to go ahead there's not many still too early but Steve still keep an eye up or keep an eye out see if we can't find any more okay so those are new to fiddleheads that's because it looks like the end of a violin you know the back end part of what the name is but to others it's called Bracken and anyway I always call them fiddleheads but there are other species but if you want the best one this is it and I'll show you real quick how you can identify it without any mistakes so let me put these aside for a second first of all you're going to see this beautiful lush green okay it's not going to be covered with a white film everywhere it's a beautiful lush green and the one that really identifies it something in the stem see that V in the stem the others don't have it gosh that Sun is on the way I know if you can see it it's like a little V that way it's a positive identification now you can cook these just like your normal vegetables fry and boil and put them butter salt and pepper whatever way you like they are delicious so remember luscious green and that V that you see on the stem well by the way a little tip when you're fat awning if you see a knot at the end let's say the branch is coming out here you know the branch is going through here right going this way so you don't want to baton this way because then you're going to have a problem with the nut blocking you it's the same if it's at this top or not so what you want to do you want to go with the knot the knot is this way you want to bet on the same way as the knot now it may not come out equal at the end but it won't stop you from splitting see I didn't have a hard time the night is still there but it's it stops splitting it just went a little bit of that way but it was easy you
kids
it's gonna be hot isn't it yes it shall be
okay can't bill can't feel up oh stop looking at my white legs you yeah you weathers getting the weather is getting very hot and it's very nice so the water looks very nice too but trust me
you know when you get into well those of you that have experiment that this of course
but these northern waters you know it snow melt and all that stuff and it gets so cold your feet hurt so I guess I'll forget about clothes or swim we'll have to wash some other way as we're hiking Josie found the thought she saw some water so we're going to try and get checked out Oh what all the fuss is all about it used to be an old trail for sure not taken care of let's see you see any fish not what is this here Stefan it's like a lot of people it's been a while since people been here that's for sure there's a nature no track so for anything and goes down hey it is some kind of a river I didn't see this on the map you it's awesome awesome fine we go fishing well maybe tonight we can coming he doesn't smell it ah you can see if you can see any usually you could see them anyway nice little place for sure nice pond or river me so we might come in cast a couple of times tonight see what happens okay so now we know the reason there's a lake I'm sure what the name of this lake is but ice up the entrance of Lake what do you say in English anyway I'll call it the exit of the lake so let me try and get through this here and I'll show you a little bit what the lake looks like I have no idea all right so there you have it I think I know which like this is it joins our Lake I mean it's just loops of lakes and the rivers here it's just like over here I'll focus you see that sighs it's beautiful any lake is beautiful okay well this was a good fine [Music]
so
Josie has asked me for a walking stick so as a good husband I'm obeying now when it comes to take anything green a walking stick is something I'm going to take green when it comes to carving it's about the only thing just because I want to make sure this is strong you know when somebody puts his weight on a steak obviously sometimes you get nice pieces of it looks nice and dry start carving and it looks solid but the inside is a little bit punky you can't really see because there's this layer of good stuff and then all of a sudden it busts on you when you really need it so that's why I use green I'm sure when it does dry that this is paper birch which people call white birch when reality is paper birch I was fortunate enough to this was the only limb alive on dead standing paper birch so I was pretty happy about that now paper birch is not as strong as your yellow birch or your maples you know they have or wood is more dense but it's still strong enough for a walking stick now all I'm doing right now is I've cut it to the right length for Josie like she wants it sawed off all the knots would be a pain for me with the knife I'm just taking the bark slowly off I'm going to round off that top here taper down on the tip so there's a mushroom and just slowly let it dry and when it's half dried I'm going to continue carving whatever needs to be carved and when it's fully cured well Josie can do what you want with it and stain it I'll probably sand it and she can stain it [Applause]
because you're taking the bark off like this and you think you're taking all of it but you'll see the next day or the day before once it starts to dry oh all the bark still left to do it rounds up I mean so it's a slow process doesn't need to be I mean I can just she'll probably use it on tomorrow's hike it's not as light as when it's dry but good enough and what I like about walking six got to be one of the most relaxing things to do because there's no precise thing or you just take the bark off and enjoy it and then do your little things on them you know if you want to decorate it burn it up all kinds of things you can do I'm just
tapering the end here so when there's no metal tip or anything like that so when you do push against it instead of wanting to open up this way the wood tends to go and stay straight stay in the you know push towards the point a little more anyway so make two passes now I'm just going to repay for it tip [Applause]
I get a little stronger pretty much the end of my tip okay of course is going to be a little bit of once it's dry you know which green it comes off easy but you can't bring the word family it peels off of that like nothing when it's drive it the piece that you really want to make meal to come off does come on there's a broken piece so I need to take it off completely you have a broken piece when it dries it'll tend to go out of the main piece of wood so we might as well take it off right away towards me
you can if you're good at carving you can even shake something out of the top so for now I'm going to let it be like this
this is the end whoo click a snake maybe not this so it's you know half-decent comfortable I'm going to play with that again this side app to take care of this not here so now that's what it is I play to have always a balance a mother a lot of walking stick guy but maybe I should probably wouldn't hurt myself so many times so anyway this is what it is where she can't see the bottom then Josie are all or the same height so she wanted it to pass you know stick out about six inches and have a comfortable grip here so there it is folks the walking stick
okay so this is a request for Marcel in Germany just put this so don't lose it you want to see my we wanted to see the sheath of my saw closer now this was made for
and you're noisy trying to make a video here a couple of squirrels chasing each other okay
this was for a Laplander don't own a la planner anymore it was it's over with because it didn't cut much anymore so let's say I buy another one I bought a silky the pocket boy and it fits perfectly in it a perfect fit okay now this sheath was made by deep woods handcraft gay in Alaska see his logo his stuff is it's just out of this world it's that simple there's not much I can say about it I've had this sheath for oh boy I don't know three years maybe it's not more and yeah it's all scratched up and all stuff but I mean it hasn't lost its shape and trust me it's been used and it has been out so Marcel I hope this satisfies you and here's a lanyard
you can hook up stuff he added these breasts loops or other stuff you needed that but I never really used this I don't know I just left it there just think it looks cool he put it there so ah and while we're at it someone will ask me wow this here oh gosh I've had this for this sheath here have had for at least six or seven years at least as a DC 4 or SEM rod and this used to be my horizontal carry but the belt I'm using is too tight it doesn't go in so I'm not using it that way anymore but what I loved about this sheath is it's well made tough and the snap here you know swivels out of the way and put my knife now you've seen this many times okay this is my old Raven made by David Howe back in 2009 and it's uh pretty much pretty much my knife I'm curently currently using but it's a knife I use the most I know seems like I always come back to this knife okay so enough of this alright so Marcel again deeply had deep wood hand man I come on what is it deep woods hand craft oh my goodness I have to stop talking to this camera okay there you have it I need to go back to carving now [Applause]
right folks oh we are at the end of day two again a beautiful day wonderful time but we decided to retire the camera for the rest of our trip so we're going to say a bye bye for now we're very happy that you could join us give you a few seconds to enjoy the fire with us [Music]
