flint and steel if you're stuck out there you don't have any steel we all know we can use our knives great videos out there and learning how to use it great resource that's why my opinion it's important if possible your knife be carbon steel the one you carry but anyway how can you safely use your knife you know without having the chance or I shouldn't say the chance but to avoid cutting yourself now when you use a knife used for the flint and steel obviously have to hit in this side and obviously you have you have no choice you have to hold on to the cutting edge of the knife now you hold it tight usually and you just whack it on your flip to create some sparks now when you're used to it you know it's not so bad you're not as afraid when it's the first time you're afraid you might lose it I do you know what guys having the cutting edge towards your hand like this is really not good but let me give you a little scenario when it's nice and warm outside and everything is going well your your bellies full and your minus thinking right you know this will go well if you're used to it and even that it's always dangerous but what happens if you're stuck out there and your hands are frozen your mind is confused a bit or you're just simply tired one little mistake if this is your only resource and if you cut inside of this hand especially this will be the hand that is working for you the best usually you don't want to cut it you don't want anything to happen so what can you do to avoid all this well let me show you very simply there you go just a piece of wood ok it's holding them they're nice you've at all your knife and the piece of wood all your cutting edge and your blade is safe from your hand you can have a better grab you know better hold to control your knife and all I need to do is click click click click now it's best I'll give you some tips it's best for the wood to use Greenwood obviously because if it's dry it'll want to split on you and in the winter time like this it's a little bit of a challenge because even if the wood is green it's frozen and it could split on you this is my second piece that I tried the first one split or is first one split right into well not quite waiting to but it's split too deep I still could have used it okay see how deep it went but I still could have used it because I just hold it like this hold the knife but it's best when it's tightly in like this where it can't come out okay at all this way it's always safe so hope this helped some of you guys because when you're out here it's always best to be the safe as possible especially when you're playing with a knife that knife could be a type of Savior for you in the woods but it could be a killer too if you don't use it right so thanks for watching this is mike from the chef buttons bye
