all right tag tag tag let's play some tag I've been tagged just meet the bush rafters it's pretty cool actually I can't really I don't know who started it but they want to know how people got into bushcraft so I got tagged by Eric from NC hiker 71 I got tagged by James hillbilly in the bush and Mike from the UK strat oh my memory 2206 if I believe I'm going to put all those links under the screen right there so you can check out those channels great channels all great channels and after that i'm supposed to tag three other people so how did I get into bushcraft that is a very good question I'm going to keep my story very short because it could be very long at a younger age around 33 years old my my parents divorced you know don't need to go into that their drugs and i'll call it something i started going from home to home to home and anyway around eight years old i was changing so many schools and places so many you know five times sometimes in a year but i ended up in this place where i met some some friends you know that we're a little bit older than me they had a camp in the bush and they were proud about their camp and they want to show me and okay I'm gonna go and I remember they called it the star so I started going to this camp and I started enjoying time you know spent there and learning you know to use a knife and believe me a lot of accidents happen but anyway I didn't have any you know father figure or any adult to show me anything so but as I went to this camp I felt myself drawn to more I was they'd stay at the camp and I just go in the bush and you know I like Peter says just play try and hide and make shelters and just play no I mean things didn't go they weren't working at all but I just had fun and then I started really enjoying the bush at a very early age you know like 10 11 years old because when I was in the bush I would get out of that hectic life you know that surrounded me gave me a sense of a sense of peace and and took off any weight or burdens that I had to carry because of my childhood so that's that's one thing that attracted me to the bush I felt good there so anyways I decided I was in the scouts for about four years from the age of 8 to 12 I guess and believe me what's that it's about 30 years ago I'm 42 about 30 years ago the scouts are not like today I could talk about that for a while but just imagine you're a ten-year-old boy and a whole bunch of us I'll just tell you one thing they wake you up in the middle of the night they don't tell you what's happening i remember was three clock it's not winter outside but it's not summer they blindfold you this is an endurance and endurance test they said blindfold you and you're out with your underwear and you have to follow their voice as you're outside and you walk and then they tell you to grab hold of this rope and we're all one behind the other like this grabbing the rope and following the road you know imagine you're blindfolded you're not too warm and you're in your underwear and they make you pass through the brush and you're full of scratches deep in the mud and if you let go of the rope hope you're going to pay for it so anyway that's what that's what the scouts were all about then of course parents started to complain and things changed but after the scouts my interest was getting even deeper of course I learned how to fish and stuff but once upon a time I met this man of course he seemed old at the time he was probably my age I actually met him in the bush by a river I was just walking around and you know he had no gear just a long wooden pole a branch maybe 8 to 10 feet long with just simple stuff you know fishing line a hook and and he taught me everything there needs to be taught fishing in creeks you know in small rivers you know being careful of your shadow and going upstream and not making a sound and that's why he had that long pole he'd go where no one else would go you know with the fancy gear I love fancy gear this is just a story but he'd get I know not just big fish but a lot of fish even through these little tiny creeks so anyways I got into fishing and then I want to get into hunting but you know couldn't hunt before the age of 12 and yet you need an adult to be with you so I had to put that aside until I met someone old enough so at the age of 16 I started going hunting hunting small game and small game was so much fun and you know just snaring snaring rabbits old boy but then I want to go hunting big game and I did you know once you start hunting small game it doesn't stay there very long so I want to hunt deer first and finally I found some one that could help me out and the guy was a bow hunter so he got me into bow hunting which is what I prefer the most I shot my first deer with a bow I didn't shoot many deer with a rifle maybe one or two most of my dear we're done with the boat actually I haven't hunted in a while because you know just running out of time but i'm going to start over again yeah that's about it then I just from then on I mean all year long at any time I get I go on little trips little expeditions and be as much as I can in the bush as many times as I could because that little first feeling I got at eight years old of relief always stayed there and is still here and now I know why you know it's God's creation it just gives you a little bit of who God is but anyway after that well when I met my wife now I wasn't i went in the Philippines I stayed there for about three months and when we got back I introduced you know was part of my life so I introduced it to her and thank God she she loved it and you know most of my life or I should say all of my life I was self-taught anything was self-taught and he know self-taught is probably the worst in one sense because you make so many mistakes it's all through trial and error because books or videos you know sometimes they don't tell you everything and sometimes you have to improvise or but it's a good in a sense it's a good thing also because you learn to improvise and you learn to do things your own way but I was self-taught now keep in mind if I would add a chance to go to you know to schools man I'd be there in a minute but it wasn't my part of life so what got me into bushcraft to answer that question guys is life life itself got me into Bush wrath well there's many names Bush rap but you know what I mean enjoying the nature wilderness life itself got me there and I'm very happy I'm very happy about this YouTube thing I'm the type of guy that you would have never seen me on camera ever I keep my things to myself I was a little bit of a loner as well but I started these videos because of Josie my wife so if you want to thank someone thank my wife not me she was just tell me put one video on YouTube she was on youtube I didn't even know what YouTube was and she was just tell me and bothering me actually and so I said okay I remember that first video I hiked just you know a small mountain we had a little bit of lunch and I decided to post it on YouTube and I didn't think about it after a couple of weeks and then went to chill I had two comments and there were good comments and then Wow one subscriber and to subscribers I said okay you know and then I started like that so that's why I'm on YouTube all right that's enough talking we could talk a lot a whole lot more but we're going to stop right there sorry guys I have to cut you off like that all right now I need to tag three other people I when I want to tag three Canadians want to hear what they have
