today we're going to be taking a look at the brand spankin new thrunite TC 20 and at the same time we're going to be comparing it to the Oh light our 50 pro seeker so this should be pretty interesting
[Music]
okay so before we get into the flashlights here more in detail this is what you get if you get the TC 20 now this is brand new it's been out just for a little while 2018 obviously you get the flashlight you get the battery which would take a look it's included holster USB you have a lanyard and some whole ring spare o-rings in there so thrunite claimed to have the most compact flashlight with the greatest output currently on the market so that's why I'm comparing it with something with the old light which is you know the pro seeker is fairly new as well but first we're gonna take a look at the size of this thing and because I'm a nice guy we shall go in centimeters too so it's about a little over four and a half in in inches centimeters it's gonna be 12 centimeters now can that stay like that diameter about 1 5/8 4.5 maybe centimeters the weight of this thing is 148 grams like most through night flashlights its high-grade aluminum and all that stuff you see one switch on one side or your orange peel the Cree bulb there's a second-generation
very very powerful you've got your lanyard hole here let's take a look at the batteries are different these are twenty six six fifty batteries huge batteries 5000 mah 3.7 volts it is rechargeable right here you got your USB port okay fairly simple oh and it's it goes in nicely this time cool okay very simple to use but just before we get into that let's take a look at the specs concerning the outputs of this splash okay real quickly you can pause if you want but it's got a maximum of 3,800 you got a high a medium a low a Firefly and a strobe it's got a maximum of 320 meters 1.5 meter impact and ipx8 concerning being waterproof which is comes either standard USB cord which I like all right which means you can charge it directly on your computer or use the one on your phone if you have the same USB port and charge it from the wall you have a little light here now if I put it on when it's blue that means it's fully charged when it becomes red that means you need to charge it if it flashes purple I mean there's something wrong the battery is upside down or it's not charging properly now to go through the modes very simple if you want to get the Firefly once it's closed you just hold it a few seconds the Firefly will pop up this if you want to go through the modes you just hold it and I'll go through them okay it does have a memory if you wanna from whatever position you're on if you want the turbo the highest 3,800 you just double-click boom if you double-click again you get the strobe so very easy very simple and you know easy to remember time for the comparison now someone's gonna probably think well it's not fair because this one is 3,800 this one is 3,200 but the thing is it is fair because currently if you look in the market I don't have all the flashlights that exist okay that's the only one I have but if you look in the market for the most compact with the most lumens these are pretty much in the game now it's not my fault if Oh light has 3200 for a compact light and thrunite came up with 3,800 now again this is a fair comparison okay it's pretty much apples with apples with what's on the market right now I don't favor one company or another or paid more for one or what it's this is gonna be something fair anyway you're gonna see it yourself so first of all I'm not going to go through them well if you take a look at the Oh light you will notice that it's a little bit more elegant you know it's got the nice blue here inside it's got a rubber switch with some blue as well it's it's a really cool looking flashlight so it's a better look
flashlights than the thrunite okay now in length if we put them side-by-side the thrunite is at least half an inch shorter you take a look at the diameter they're pretty much exactly the same now the weight remember I told you that the thrunite was 148 grams the Oh light is a little heavier with 252 grams so as we take a look at both flashlights I don't want to make I don't make this this video too long so I'm just gonna you know talk about positives and negatives on both as you see them as we go along so you can make up your mind as well I'll tell you what I think but you can still make up your mind now concerning how this works it's pretty much the same thing as through night it's easy to to go through the modes and remember if you hold it go to Firefly you can close it it's got memory - you can open it and go through the modes by holding it okay it's got memory same as the one in through night if you double-click you'll go right away on turbo double-click again or three times I mean one two three you get the strobe little tiny difference to go three times I find that a little bit awkward on all whole ice but it's still fine okay so what else could we compare it to I mean between the two if you're a lanyard find the old light doesn't have it no lanyards whatsoever if you're not allowing your fan well this won't affect you thrunite does have one and it does come with a lanyard which is right here also something else
when you come to charge these things through night has your standard USB ease which means you can charge it anywhere anytime pretty much even with a power bank I mean you can battery bank or something I can't remember the words to that but you can charge it anywhere there's no problem let's take a look out how this one charges alright so if you're used to o light you understand their magnetic charge which is pretty cool
got your USB here and it's magnetic so that's pretty nice and it comes or you can put your USB here with this nice little device where you can plug it directly on the wall hey just push on this button to take it off and you're all set now this is all nice but one little problem that I see with that it's kind of fun isn't oh there you go one of the problem that I see with this charging if you lose this you're done okay so they both use the same batteries which are twenty six six fifty they both have 3.7 volts the O light if you take a look here has sixteen point six WH and the one on the thrunite is a little bit stronger which is eighteen point five now the holsters well it's pretty easy to see that Oh lights holster is a lot better now this is molded this way okay nice whoops that's not nice nice strong well-made holster you look at the through night well it's your typical flimsy holster which I guess they've saved some money there but still works and will probably be you know a little bit more lightweight but as you can see the grade on the holster here is a lot better on the nylon I mean so that's a plus for Oh like right there alright so before we go out and take a look cause we're just going to take a look at the turbo see how bright of course they are I already want to make a conclusion and you know I wrote some things down so I don't have to come back cuz I think I already have my mind made up on certain things so you can you know decide for yourself but let me start off with one thing okay this is Josie's light the one thing first thing that I don't like about this site it's a three thousand two hundred lumens right well when you open it up after 1.5 minutes it goes down to a thousand lumens which is a big aunt for me I mean if you get a light 3200 you want to work it a little bit longer than that I understand that they're probably saving on the bulb or components in there okay I'm not too sure but I don't like that now I have no idea about this one I took a look here on the thrunite and it says on turbo at 3,800 lumens it's a hundred and thirty minutes which is a little over two hours now I'm not sure this is maybe it will I don't know if it's gonna be able to stay without damaging it for two hours but anyway I rather have control and how long I want to use my high output 1.5 is is is no good to me I mean what's the use paying for three thousand two hundred lumens when he can't even use it that long I know this one will probably last I'm going to test it out and I'll tell you while as we're outside now I'm not gonna test it for two hours but I'm gonna tell you if it lasts at least five minutes before it changes or maybe it doesn't change so on that side through net wins okay
now please do not laugh at my messy paper here because I have to add a little bit everywhere so if we take a look
Oh light in tc20 they have the same battery okay so same comparison if you're interested in a lanyard and you know there's no lanyard well that's a big bummer for you well check positive side on through night power for the most compact and what's currently available now I don't know about the other companies this is what I have through night wins with a 3,800 compared to 3,200 another negative the charging if you lose that magnetic thing you're done this one here if you lose it you just use another one everyone has tons of those wires around the looks that's probably the most positive there is on the o light it looks a little better it's more elegant little colors here and there
this rubber switch but that's it there are both ipx8 waterproof which means they're both good at two two meters the holster oops that's not good here let me change this holster Oh light wins right impact resistant Oh light says one meter through night 1.5 meters the through night is shorter so it's more compact okay if I put it side-by-side there you can see also another positive on the through night it's lighter 140 grams compared to 252 another positive and positive for me and I'm sure it's going to be for you is the price point now the old light comes at 183 I paid 183 for this Canadian the thrunite is 119 so it's you know sixty six dollars less now I know it's more elegant and you know it comes in a nicer box and stuff but if I don't have to pay $66 more I mean I won't it's the flashlight I'm interested in alright so one two three four five six plus that 1.5 minutes there it doesn't like that seven so seven positives on the thrunite compared to two on the o light alright folks oh I'm in not far from my home and I'm not in a cramped up woodland area I want to be in a more of a spread out to see the length and the width of these lights and we're gonna get her done cuz it's really cold so let's start with the O light and obviously we will use okay well that's pretty cool the width is a good 50 feet and the length how far we are is about oh I'd say about a hundred feet but it's a nice light it's clear yeah you could definitely I can't imagine when you walk in the woods this is gonna be very bright now let's check out the through night [Applause]
[Applause]
okay through night now okay it's about the same to be honest okay it's more of a throw now I see the difference if I'm not mistaking I think it's a 320 meter throw and the through 9 or the Oh light is Mort like 250 it has a oh yeah I don't know if you guys can see that a little bit over there sorry about that we got at least 250 feet at the back there so let me try and put them side-by-side
[Applause]
okay so they're about the same brightness in my eyes you got the left side or the right side here that's Oh light that's more of a yellowish and I think the other one through night is a cool white which is awesome this would be very good for search and rescue not as much for hunting like when you're you know tracking down blood but you see the difference between the two you know if it shows on the camera yeah it's more of a it's got more of a spotty light the through night and this one here is a lot as a more wider so depending on what you like you got two good examples here okay my hands are freezing let's go back inside alright so I guess we're gonna have a second conclusion sorry about that first of all when it comes to brightness to power I didn't see much of a difference I mean from the same distance concerning the small trees I didn't see much of a difference from let's say 50 feet now the thrunite is a little bit brighter because of the cool white that distance but there is a difference in the throw a through night will throw further because of its power I mean it's got 600 lumens more so concerning that if that's something you like you'll have it in that one but if it's something for just clothes they're about equal the Oh light I concerning the flood is a little bit more wider but there is a difference in power when you look at it for further distance so I guess that was calculated that way so concerning power I still go with the through night because it is a little brighter because of the cool white at a 50 feet you know 50 foot distance 250 feet it's still bright you start losing the old light so it's a winner in my book that way okay so what's the pic well it's pretty simple the comparison is is about you know the most compact and powerful currently
thrunite is more compact doesn't weigh as much is 60 to 70 dollars cheaper I like this better to recharge because I can recharge it anywhere if I lose my USB cord I can use another one that's at hand close by if I lose this one I have to buy another rechargeable and if I need it now it's not fun also remember you have 1.5 minutes on the 3200 lumens and then it goes down to a thousand lumens I contacted through night because I didn't feel like staying you know testing it out not outside excuse me at minus 25 I didn't feel like it and they told me that 15 minutes at 3,800 lumens and then it falls back to 1250 for the remaining battery life if ever you use it that long in one shot so 15 minutes to 1.5 minutes I mean so it's simple through night wins all right so I hope you liked this little testing the sole comparison and by the way I'm not putting down Oh light Oh light is a great company like through night they have good stuff good quality stuff I had survived had several of their flashlights this is just a comparison of one flashlight to a competition that currently has a new one out and I mean it wins easily on a lot of aspects from price point to size the power how you recharge it I go with this one any time so thank you for your patience if you lasted this long for a flashlight video and if this is something that interests you as usual we'll put the links in the description of this video I think in Canadian is 119 and 89 us for this so it's pretty good I mean this is look look how compact that is and it's powerful so anyway thanks for watching this is my foot bushcraft buttons bye
