all right so now that I found my place I tapped out the area which I think will be good I'll wait a little bit for it to sell in just making sure it's as even as I can to the eye you can do that with snow which is pretty cool [Applause]

so it's about the size of a sleeping bag weighs more obviously maybe about 25 pounds give or take but this is a pretty big tent

okay so apologize I didn't show all the little details but I just did not have time whoa whew that feels good so first time for me obviously setting this up you guys dizzy I think you might be dizzy there okay so like any tent there's always a learning curve to them it wasn't so bad actually but it still takes a little time and you want to do it right of course I still have a lot of work to do today I don't have much time I'm here just to set up as much as I can and tomorrow I'll be back with Josie and we're gonna spend the night because she was working today and I said well I'll come and install it and all that so this is a took tent obviously by the title probably made in Quebec Canada by D now I was privileged to be able to visit a shop and spend some hours with him and his lovely wife men'she who's from the Philippines by the way and while they connected real well my wife and her but what can I say about he's been doing tents for 25 years it's that simple I know he's got all kinds of shapes and sizes and for everyone it's that simple and if he doesn't have it you'll probably able to build it for you he's that good he's not just good with tents

he's good with leather wood fur I mean I saw a couple of canoes he made and cedar my goodness beautiful he makes anoraks actually his wife does that I'll show you later on in this series amazing pretty unique too he's just an all-around good guy and he's an artist what can I say he does everything proudly and with quality in this tent here is the Alaskan it's a 10 by 10 I chose this big because of course Josie and I are coming here and I want to install bed cots because she you know I guess this winter we're not going to be roughing it but more roughing it smoothly and I think she likes that better yeah so that's why it's that size and it's not too big actually it's perfect also I mean everything is well made right now I'm just resting there but the zippers is quality everything is quality the stitching is awesome it's very simple you've got this pole here aluminum pole military-grade adjustable so you don't need to cut any trees for that he sells that too and the cotton is premium it's that simple it's ten ounce and I believe there's only two in North America that have this type of cotton it's not just the cotton but how its how it's been shrunk and the treatment it's something very special and durable so anyway I'm gonna leave you know in this series his web site take a look he's got cool stuff it's made here in Quebec Canada encourage him if you need a tent or any accessories I'm going to show you also stove he sells and you know during this series you're gonna see a couple of things a hard time really filming this was a difficult time filming because it's a lot of hard work and it doesn't stop snowing and I mean this camera is not so bad with snow but it was too much a certain point I couldn't even see the camera anymore and that's I don't want to take any chance I just blow it off there but I don't want any water going in so what I decided to do is just typically make a series out of this I mean there's no use because I'll be spending all winter here not consecutive days there but every week I'll be coming so what's the use having two nights in the tepee tent or two and three nights I'm going to make a series and I think I'm gonna call it the living Journal instead of writing everything I'm going to film from beginning to end the journey here with Josie all winter long for about three months four months even and you know cut the video at a certain point and I'll make episodes with that so you'll be living with us if you so desire to watch it and I hope you do okay I need to take care of that stove I'm gonna take a look at the stove I was going to make a good burn outside you know because there's a little bit of oil but I think I'm gonna do it inside anyway is it a big door it's open it's already gonna be where it's supposed to be and I won't have to move it around because I don't have much time that's the problem it's already 12:30 so I'm gonna have to rush okay so the stove is made in Canada this one is actually perfect size it's 18 by 12 by 12 which I believe is you know for this size of 10 a little small or even bigger it's actually pretty cool you've got these detachable very simple to put in and you've got screws at the end now I put a base a wooden base and I explain why later but you can just put two you know two long pieces and screw them in and you'd have something solid [Music]

another piece another piece of wood oh now she's secured on these two pieces of wood as I said it's 18 by 12 12 now there's no false bottom but he makes them and this is I mean solid stuff and obviously you need unique too because one piece wouldn't go in now a false bottom is not necessary but it's better because you want the heat to radiate as much as possible around the stove by both sides front and back on the top and not waste the heat coming down the bottom there's gonna go to the floor and waste because this is always cold but at the same time you're going to end up with a nice puddle of water which you want to avoid and also a false bottom will save your stove you know from always having direct coals and fire on the stove or on the tin here on the steel itself so this is actually a pretty good thing he also makes now this Josie fell in love with this as it extends

[Music]

upside down sorry that's not the first time I do this so okay now we're ready to install the pipe alright so I know you've seen the spark arresters with a little hat and the inside is like a mashed potato masher with the holes to go in the problem with that you know smoke has to come out and nothing restraining it or restricting it not restricting I can't find the word but stopping it from throwing out flowing out easily naturally and sadly this smashed potato thing because in the woods most of the time you don't have to always the best wood you know especially if you burn evergreen it creates a lot of soot and this potato thing will actually accumulate soot and could potentially block your chimney well actually it has some people have gone through this so this is what ghee has very simple very thin easy to carry easy to pack lightweight and simple to clean and as effective so all you need to do is just

put in as such so this way it's going to stop the sparks but at the same time it won't block your chimney yeah

now I know I should have put it the other way but I just have to put it this way cuz it'll stop more of the rain and water going down as the other way it comes in it's gonna go in easier anyway that's what I did okay so rose so I found some birch bark but then I didn't have time to full of ice and stuff so we'll see I got some I brought some fire started or just in case save the birch bark save the birch bark she doesn't even want to steal it wet birch bark works very well people have to stop saying that the wood is catching better than the birch bark and believe that okay this is too wet me to find something else hold on I knew this was gonna happen so I brought some homemade homemade stuff [Applause]

because I knew I didn't have too much time to screw around with wood today so it comes in handy I'm gonna need to figure out a way cuz I don't want to have to run into the woods and get birch bark each time maybe I'll make more man-made stuff who knows there you go listen to that sound man what stove that thing is really sucking out look how its seasoning quickly burning the oils off closer look height very strong zipper took logo at the top where the pipe is and the stove in that corner I'll probably put a bit caught on that side and one of this I am Not sure here's your aluminum pipe which is adjustable this and you've got the air vent here she needs to leave open yeah yeah it's very well made so I'm anxious or I shouldn't say anxious but excited to you know experience a whole winter in here zipper double zipper a super stitched okay so now it's time for what you think yeah you guessed it a little bit more on the door here bit on this side the bottom this side is almost completely done looking good so of course we got a lot more work to do but I can't do it today the Joe's is gonna come and help yeah I got a setup there's there's so many things I want to do here one thing at a time right now it's coffee oh there's something in my lens what is it it's called a drop of water you guys see it you don't seem to see it maybe I won't touch it

yeah tomorrow will be the real test closing the door and plus they're announcing pretty cold like minus 21 or something Celsius so it'll be a good test yeah I'll put one bed cot this way and the other one this way Joey's are gonna sleep there close to the heat I'll sleep here because I'm the one that's gonna be waking up well the stove this size I don't know yeah maybe I'll have to wake up once or twice but in the morning for sure so it'll be easier for me to access it so those you'll have the nice place there on that side you know Josie's very excited about this she's been waiting a long time for this to happen

he just loves hot tent now it's not like I've you know we've never slept in that we've slept mostly I mean we slept a lot in teepees and you know prospector tents through all the years but never this type which is a different he calls it the Alaskan and it's got maybe two foot walls on this one you ever take it should be fun now it's even better owning one that's even better and obviously you know this was all sponsored by ghee by a took tents and I really appreciate that really really do so ghee if you're watching and men she thank you very much that's for Josie to when she got the phone call or the email saying it was okay she was crazy she was a scene or excited just like a little kid so and I hope you guys are going to enjoy this this series it's a little different from what I used to do or usually do in the winter but I have a lot of projects mm-hmm

we'll see how things go you know everything's harder in the snow but now that we have this it's a different story well don't play with their knives and don't talk with your mouth full I can hear my water boiling finish this Apple have my coffee make sure it's all seasoned up as best as I can and I need to go a lot of work still tomorrow

it's coming but it doesn't need to boil its wire from home so it should be okay now

nice to be able to relax a little bit of snow falling right now pretty much done inside and I'm gonna finish this coffee and head out so we're supposed to spend you only have one two days yeah two days Friday and Saturday so tomorrow we'll be continuing some work and spending the night and very cold temperatures so it should be pretty cool but Josie [Music]

[Applause]

you
