alright so this is my Hawk tomahawk it's a cold steel it's the spike Hawkeye belief I got it because first of all I never owned one and I want to play with it a bit and I was wanting something you know for the summertime something between you know a small axe in your general bushcraft knife easier to carry because I don't need to chop so much would like the winter something that will make my task little easier than what the small all around bushcraft knife would do so I just like to get this one because it was cheap around 40 bucks I also like the shape of the blade cutting edge it's got like three inches of cutting edge and it's fairly thick but what's neat about this it's not only cheap but you can personalize it you know modify it and have fun so that's what I'm going to do in this video now I already done something to it when it came and you'll see they're a little bit after I'm finished talking but there'll be some things I'll need to do this spike here is gonna you know I'm gonna have to take it off because I have no need for this but the handle it's way too long you know I don't truly need this for four reach for defensive purposes or for renal chopping down having a good swing just want something a little smaller so sort of every all over the place alright so I'll show you first what I'd done here next step will be to get this off here i'll probably have that done because I'm not equipped to do that then what we'll do is remove the paint and once that's done i'll do something to the blade maybe and then we'll work on the handle so let's start working it Oh another thing this one it's blood not even sharp not even it's it's really dull it's so it's going to need to be sharpened too ok so the rim let the metal you know push the wood and create a rim is all gone so now all I need to do is work on the steel a little bit okay so this is the tomahawk head now because this edge here all around is sharp you know going that way if I put my fingers like this it's sharp ya what I'll do instead of tapering in the wood it'll dig into the wood and stop it you know and stop the piece of metal of tapering in and it will stay loose so all I'm going to do a little bit is just round much better not a big job it has to be gun because you know they come with our screw screws into the wood but still Wiggles it's not good

alright I sure showed you this before even when Titan with the screw I just move it like this you know like that and this would would wiggle all over the place wouldn't be solid so hopefully this will do the job no movement whatsoever awesome now obviously I'll have her this in the look a little bit better there when it's time to use it but it didn't dig in cool alright so I had it cut a little bit disappointed not a big deal but it's not completely straight see it's going down a little bit this way but I'd rather it be going down with it this way then you know going be thicker on this side as I'm a hammering even though it's a little higher here that's fine and I'm going to keep this I won't polish the end of it I'll just leave it rough a little bit because it'll tend to not slip slip less anyways when I'm pounding on something as you can see this paint is really cheap on it which is good be easy for me to remove so that's our next step I'm just going to use just a normal you know paint remover using this one poly prep just going to make a little test and well we'll see what happened that I'll do the rest outside just make a little just put one nice coating on it and wait a few minutes it'll soon find out what happens now even though he did cut it a little bit crooked this way well I have nothing to complain about because it cost me a book and a half to do this so and you know what I'll take it as a new style okay see I can see it work you can see but let me show you the bubbles that you see that's the paint coming off that man this is going to be an easy job it's probably just a cheap enamel the thing that they put on that okay time to go outside and do this yeah let me show you this awesome batter that's coming out cool

I'm a little bit worried about this spot here now I'm no expert your knife makers out there this hope this was not in the heat treat hope it's not a weakness alright so now she's done side of this end to make a nice hammer so now what you could do is you know sanded maybe a little bit more smoothly and blew it you know like the barrel of a rifle but I want to keep this as low-cost as possible no I wish I could leave it like this I mean cool patterns and stuff but I still need to protect the metal from rust a little bit so what I'm going to do is I'm going to force a patina everywhere on this boy and all probably you just mustard something very simple anything acidic will will work so that's the next step all right easy way to patina your blade where it's gonna be putting it everywhere and protected glass just just done some vinegar you're there for about an hour that's too long for what I was wanting to do now I know what's for reach and all that stuff but I just want something comfortable easy to bring out a nice little tool so I took off six inches where this is going to be the length of it so if I took off six inches 6-22 is what 16 there you go 16 inch handle now next step for this handle I need to send it down with 80 grit okay so what's he doing now well so far seem to be doing crooked lines wish I knew how to draw or something but anyway let's give a little personal kind of a touch to it I guess very simple it's nice when you have these tomahawks personalize them that's what's fun about nah I didn't give any description of this tomahawk it's that spike Hawk you can check it if you're interested I think the steel is 1055 and obviously is at Hickory handle so we try and finish up what I don't know what I'm doing here and then we'll burn her up okay right now I don't know what I'm doing my gosh what is this gonna look like need your help Andy right now well this is supposed to we're supposed to personalize it trust me it's going to be personalized i don't think i'm going to show this to you yet because it looks so ugly I'm just fooling around here trying to do some lines out of the blue what am i doing now i'm using for stain you're just a simple it's called minwax just our little tube 177 milliliters it's a you know it comes out like ketchup poop so I'm you know using a little bit of the Onyx color which is black and walnut now I know what the walnut makes and I want to be a little bit more

what to be more darker color and what's cool it really doesn't take much so I'm going to mix it to the color I want and then we'll start staining just do my hands first yeah just going to give pretty much what I want right so in order to do this right telling you this does not take a lot i even have way too much be honest i'll be putting like maybe three coats okay so actually finally i would just put two coats very dark as you can see plenty what I was wanting next trick is I use a 0 1 80 but it's so worn down it's probably a almost a 3 20 or 24 th so the next step you want to just slowly sand it off not too much and expose the areas you would like to see exposed let's go like a rustic look or you know like you've been using it for a while medieval type thing the slightly

so it makes it look plus it covers a lot of your mistakes if you would earn you can do that there's many times as you want she's actually then is pretty light color after that on top again if you think there's too much wiped now I'm not done there but just to give you a little example make it look a little old so I'll continue this and once i'm done we're going to check that the lake all right so she's done give you a little idea i'll take some pictures of it tend features always show the real I even signed it down here if you can see a picture that I am blade is done was able to keep all my pattern just became darker that's all hey

not ready to jam it in hit oops I'm upside down just going to fit nice yeah so that's what she's going to look like but I'm still not done believe it or not what's left to do gotta sharpen this bad boy

so before I do just give you a little look still signature down here and put it to the BB just give you a closer look there ok so the edge is pretty good not as good as my small forest acts geometry and that is fatter so it's hard to but she's sharp okay this is what came with the the sheath for this tomahawk as you can see it's upside down this end remember the end goes spike went down this one's going the other way I said maybe I'm wrong and I tried all over the place and now but doesn't matter I don't need this part any longer so gosh I know just going to cut will enough so use a little bit of that same kind of stain

nothing shows there's a snap and she goes

snapped in

Oh

all right so I guess I'm pretty much done for this video ah was a lot of fun now I'm anxious to try out I mean 40 bucks plus you know a few things you have around maybe buy a few things ten bucks I don't know between 40 and 50 you can make your own looking the way you like type of tomorrow okay thanks for watching this is mike from bushcraft Barnes I'm going to leave you a few pictures so you can really see what it looks like bye
