right guys in this video I'm going to show you a little bit about birds nests especially you know when it's wet season can't find any dry grass for us in the wintertime obviously got dry grass is not available especially here in Canada there's something going to show you that if you have the resources same resources and i'm going to show you you'll be able to start your birds nests every time you need two things one thing is what we call a coal extender and the other thing well your tender your fuel a thing that's going to flame up for you so don't go away we'll be right back now as you're walking it's always important when you know what you're looking for to keep an eye open and grab it right away so you can have it to start your fire that it doesn't mean so obviously the first thing that everybody knows about that's going to be or at the bottom of your bird's nest the thing that's going to catch on fire even after its rained and it's still wet is the famous birch bark so I see some here I'm going to grab it they got a little ways to go even this is Dan don't need that much this here is plenty now let's try and find the coal extender okay so i found my birch bark as my fuel right ended up going to catch into flame you know again this is winter time or after it's been raining this thing always worked now what I have in front here is a cedar tree now what's great about cedar trees that doesn't matter if it's the red cedar the white cedar the bar is a great cold extender and it doesn't matter if it's dead or alive this bark will still work right when you have a mature tree like this one the bark is thick enough that you can take off straight off the edge here to make your whole extender now this is what I got around here in my woods these are the two great things that I have concerning what I'm talking about the cedar and birch bark is pretty much all over the place now if you can find something similar to this that has little tiny fibers you know from the bark of a type of tree you have around home you can do the same thing as your coal extender and use some fuel whatever you have you know maybe the rest of the bar so on so what you do you're going to take this bark and you're just going to scrape it let me just Vance a little bit okay what's going to do is just scrape put your hand under so you don't want to lose it just straight now you're not hurting the tree just borrowing a little bit from it and you know you don't need that much I almost have enough but i'll put a little bit more these are great things to know you want to get a fire going in the heart condition

okay we gather this together this is I'll back it up few second now this here is all I need for my kool extender I notice how it's got little tiny fibers

ok this is ready you got this from any other kind of tree you're all set so let me prepare the rest and I'll show you how it's done ok so now I got pretty much everything I need about my cold extender right here just put it here try not to lose it now when using birch bark sometimes it can be tricky wait to use as a bird's nest as it wants to fall apart all the time so what you can do is maybe at the same time you know so you don't burn your hands use a big green lately for something under to hold it so I'm going to just make myself a little and I'm only going to do is break up cut myself a base there I'm going to break it up as once the coal is extended to the cedar I want it to catch flame easily and for this to happen you got to have small thin pieces you know guys the key to pretty much everything if you want to work not just fire this preparation knowledge of course and knowing what to use so just going to put this in here let me use a little more you know what you're the one that's going to start this up today not me ok so and you put your kool extender in the middle compact it a little bit make sure when you pick it up nothing is going to be in the way so you can pick it up this way okay you don't need that much you can add stuff if you want to it you know for your hands there should look a little bit like this I hope you can see this okay now this is going to be a lot of fun okay yes this piece here will be big enough

you're the ones going to start this guy so let me change the position okay place you guys here I want you to strike this so we can get this truck off going i'm just going to be awkward for me the cameras right in the way but anyway okay give it a go okay we got one good that's nice there you go oops I think I was out of frame but anyway now when this happens there's no need and blowing on it because this will burn fast enough for you oh boy this is awkward okay I know this ok I just shortened it up here for you ok now you need to blow just blow gently on it go ahead

he blowing

come on get in there camera is in the way this is not easy ok we're going to be in trouble pretty soon

ah okay

so now you see that your coal is extending on the cedar and go a little harder

now I need to blow harder guys come on this has to start hey little more oh there you go good job guys man I couldn't have done this better myself please he obviously I was very awkward that's why I looked it looked difficult but actually it's not you'll get this going every time hey get this over here you'll get this going every time guys just do exactly like I showed you if it's the train or in the winter you can find anything with these two things you won't have any problems so sorry for the awkward positions I couldn't see much but anyways I hope you got something out of it thanks for watching
