I think I found myself a perfect spot let's see yeah I think I'm gonna have to [Applause]
it's not going anywhere okay well anyways the creek is pretty dry usually there's a bunch of water coming right down here but with the summer we've had I guess it's to be expected but I still have a nice little flow I got my water and by the way there's no fire band where I am just you know responsible fires and can't be any more responsible than making a fire in a creek bed a dry one plus they got water right there and I don't need a big fire now this video is being made two days after my latest video most recent one where it was hot and believe it or not this morning was almost 50 degrees I was 10 10 11 in Celsius so that felt really good and that's the main reason I'm out here to enjoy this morning of coolness no bugs oh man it's a good sign but we're not out of the woods yet because they're still announcing some warm weather this is just a bonus day so what I want to do today is I brought my my beater and just gonna have fun prepping some wood and as I said not a big fire I got some you know your typical steaks to cook up I found two chanterelles it's not quite chanterelle season but almost and there's not much this year cuz well there's no rain so you still have to and we're gonna grill them instead of frying them have your normal coffee and just you know enjoy your time oh you did I found a pretty cool turkey feather I find these well not often but you know it's not rare it's a pretty nice one I've got nicer ways but it's a nice feather come back to the old days and when's the last time you guys wrote a letter by hand yep technology okay so put this back here and let's get a little bit of wood prepped up all right so this is pretty rare but I got a nice maple very dead maple and it's leaning perfectly that side so [Music]
so nice Wow may actually keep a piece dry out for spoon making let me show you try not to make you too dizzy with the camera
yeah I'll definitely keep me a piece that's about three inches and be able to make at least two spoons out of one piece just a dry cut at the right length and let it dry a hole like that I don't want to dry it too quickly I mean it's it's dead but there's still some humidity a bit in itself but anyway I'm cooking steak and that's what I needed is a good hardwood so that's what I'll do yeah
get a little closer so then I don't have to carry the wood too far still deciding as I cut I can still feel the moisture in this tree I mean it's completely bit we had a couple of storms that's why we have this cold weather for a day oh yeah yep this one's a keeper gonna make it pretty cool spoon now I know it looks kind of ugly like that fight away that you'd see but I'm a little far from the creeks getting cleaner and cleaner as I go up I'm almost done actually I don't need that much
okay this may be a little tough to split actually not so bad okay now this is my spoon my spoon log I decided to split it right away look at the inside of this that's a nice score for me now it looks rotten or punky but it's not okay not at all
fibers are really strong but when this dries up I think we're gonna have two beautiful spoons with these what do you think keeper
now these are sadly because of the storm a few storms a little bit damp so I still need this wood for my cooking fire so just put it into smaller chunks they will burn oh that's good see when you have a not say the trees coming this way the branch a little tip to avoid that I know sometimes you have branches all over but just sudden Z as an example you want a baton opposite the knot so it splits much easier than having to split in the knot I know sometimes you don't have a choice but you know just a little tip okay so
let's move a few of these back to the fire
okay so stuff out real put these beauties inside okay for those of you be asking for what's my beater here's my beater what is it alright seven like it cuz it does the job when you know when I have fun - taunting instead of bringing the axe I mean it's very lightweight it's not you know too long and it does the job what can I say now as you could see the I took the black coat off or was it off I can't remember anyway and i gun blew it you see the difference between the cutting edge here and the rest and I didn't gun blew it all perfect and nice I wanted to write to look like old the used kind of a thing and you know it's it's holding up and it keeps it from you know rusting also I modify a bit the handle as you can see I'm not a big fan especially when you're holding a knife you know pretty firmly for batoning on square handles now it's still square but as you can see it's rounded a bit what I did I used some electricians okay not so fast what I did is I used some electricians tape I twisted it I went around that's the line as you see I cut it then I retyped it not to have the sticky side and then I tubed it and it makes a nice rounder grip your smoother grip okay I also did well LUT mods on the ship well I did a few things very simple it's a large knife and large knives and I don't like you know putting them on my belt just because you know it's heavy for me anyway but because I fatten this handle these straps now it's pretty crappy the sheath anyway so I just put it on this I think it's a rush 12 the backpack I just lashed it nice and solid there and because these handles are fatter now these straps with the snaps impossible to attach and they were in the way of what I was wanting to do so I just clipped one in and detached the other end and what I did is I used some trusty paracord I looped it behind the belt loop here okay bring it down with this attachment and just pull it nice and tight and that's not going anywhere now I know that if you move quite a bit these tend to want to loosen up maybe a little bit so that's why I left it a little bit longer and if I do have to travel a little longer and I'm not you know worried if I'm worried about the knife I'll just you know do a square knot or something to keep this from opening up so that's my beater okay so but test a few things first here yeah okay
so I can't go further than that point I put these in the bottom I know it's to keep moisture from all that good stuff but this time I mean I could make that fire on top of that rock but these are gonna be my coals so there you go found some decent birch bark they have to fluff it fluff it because it's it's the thick one but first first of all let's see if I can put it over also there I can because I'm going to make myself a coffee first so I'm going to use the flames right away to get my water boiled okay this time I have to boil it from the creek get a coffee and while this wood is slowly burning I'll sip a coffee and we'll be ready for steak when I'm done okay get some water [Applause]
I'm not gonna need you save my drinking water but I am going to need you here yep ready water right here there's quite a few skaters I don't want any skaters in my water what I mean by skaters are well as a kid we always used to call them skaters can you see them gosh this water there see hmm so you guys go somewhere Thank You anyone else thank you
a little bit too much there I always gauge about two inches perseverance folks let's get this going oh my gosh I could probably use it a flamethrower and when start I took a little while but we got it I hope okay finally sorry for the long wait probably enjoyed that huh okay let's put gloves on oh maybe not Park her where she was there put this right away
so I can boil this water coffee so while I'm waiting for that get my mushrooms ready hey don't fall apart on me this is not the time so just make sure make sure there's no bugs this one's nice and clean these are chanterelles you know look it up how to identify them few tricks is that they've got fall skills we should have a brush it hit it okay two nice pieces ready yeah a few things first of all they've got because there's a look-alike that is not good for you it's got white flesh you can see it the other one has yellow it's got your let me put this on the ground
it's got false kills which means it doesn't go right through it and if you see at the tip it branches out you know like little branches and it smells wonderful and tastes even better so let's check out our coffee okay you gonna hear something rolling ball boys I say fights my goodness make sure a lot of people laughing right now let's do this again okay seem to rolling boil folks there I have to take my time to speak okay let's have some coffee softer here
yeah it's a nice cup a nice cup of coffee it's hot you see this yep cool down a little bit and relax okay so let this burn down a bit still burning well I can hear a little bit of sizzling and a few of them as I said I rains at night mostly which is good
not every night okay
yeah
it feels like a fall day be honest like I've been here - about two hours you know time to prep stuff filming takes a lot of time and but I'm done you know all I need to do is wait for this fire to calm down a bit and I don't even have to I can put the grill just close to it I have a hard time with my mushrooms though cuz the grill is too white maybe at the end I'll be able to roast them a bit we'll see anyway I'll try it first time I I roast mushrooms and of course you don't want to burn it you want coals but mushrooms are delicate and of course we've got some steak yeah that's just awesome you guys feel that cool breeze oh oh oh it's nice and the fire doesn't it's not a nuisance you know meaning it's it's just nice it's not making you sweat like ready like install this they're not too much fire over the grill that's right not to anyway come on okay so let's try and put these beautiful steaks
beefsteak obviously a lot of people have been asking me what kind of cut this is I have no idea I forgot to check the butcher a dozen that marinade is just out of this world and very tender and they're very cheap it's like I paid like five something for those two pieces of steak now they're not vague if you see my hand that's just enough for me today or I mean for ten o'clock it's half breakfast and half a lunch maybe so just before they do start cooking so I'm going to show you the marinade spices on these things lovely isn't it yeah okay now what I've decided to do with the mushrooms I'm not going to take a chance I'll try and cook them in the in my pot my canteen and obviously I have no oil no nothing so very low heat trying to get some water out of it and that's it I'm just going to keep a close eye so let's put her in and keep an eye on those so let's add a few branches because I was becoming impatient which usually happens when I'm hungry concerning the I had to add a little bit of water sadly because this thing was sticking to try and get the water out and soften these up water out of the mushroom Oh
a few more minutes and this will be done this way they clean my grill turn it upside down the coals and scrape it right away and it comes right off you just don't want to let it all burn off I mean you could I used to do that but then these wires are not that big and they tend to warp so doing like this you see it's already cleaned up there okay time for steak yes nice and pink a bloody perfect thank you Jesus oh no seriously Wow see I didn't even have time to chew it it just melted over here she I would just if I just separate it like that just separates so tender hmm
okay I have no idea usually I always cook my chanterelles and butter a little bit of salt and pepper let's see what this will taste like up focus this will taste like just like that oh no what this does not need butter or salt and pepper
I wish I had more chanterelles okay so I'm gonna enjoy my meal here I'll let you guys be I know I know you don't like seeing this so hey okay so
this will be it for this vid three hours I know it's going to become a little harder this afternoon I thoroughly thoroughly enjoy enjoyed my time here enjoy my time with you when I thank God for that so I won't keep you waiting I appreciate your support and you know watching this video and with so many new things on YouTube so that little bell I mean I've been doing quite a few videos but hardly no views that's okay I'm just wondering if people are getting the what do you call it and you make a video and yeah I know if it's a notice that I made a video anyway you guys understand so I'll click on that make sure you receive them and especially don't forget to go out yourself and enjoy the wilderness this is microplush crab Bartman's bye I still got one more steak think I'm gonna have to stop at the store and get Josie one she won't forgive me Oh tell him you seem just melts in your mouth and usually I you know it's all gone but today I said I want to take my time because I still have half an hour before I leave so warming up some more water then I'm gone okay sit I'm rambling I'm saying things that have no use to you bye [Music]
