even on my beaten trail and still sinking quite a bit alright so today we're going to talk a little bit about just want to show you a couple knives and I'm going to do what i would call fast fire during the wintertime and we'll talk a little bit about that okay so let's first take a look a quick look of a knife that I traded early this year just thought i'd share this with you very sorry about the light it's a cloudy day so i got to put up with it now sadly I don't remember BW I know if it's backwoods but I remember this knife is called the ambush take this away so what it looks like it's a four and a half inch blade nine okoro virol the scales box elder borough steel is 1095 so I traded this knife for this knife and of course hmm it was a full flat and as I sometimes do with my knives I repro filed it now it's slightly convexed you can see that now you can see the marks of the my water stone still and I decided to leave it there because I think it gives it character you can see the forge that was left there which is beautiful i love that forged look I'm starting to like these where the finger groove here is into the integrated integrated into the handle it's got a nice drop point and from the tail end to the tip it has a nice you know curvature if i can say it that way and makes it a good slicer now this thing it went it was really easy to repro file and you know it's a great slicer i love the control in this knife a handle is fairly comfortable because of this here i have a feeling that going to be a hot spot there choke it up it's not as bad but anyway it's a great knife i really like it if I would there's one peel that I have to talk about and you can probably notice and it's coming a picky opinion now not because I i say my picky opinions that I'm not happy with the straight I'm really happy with this trade I think this knife doesn't just look good it's pretty unique and it cuts like a charm controls like a charm but one thing is i am not a fan of ass wedge especially on a overall bushcraft knife not at all it's too bad if they would have left I think this 5 30 second thickness if they the maker would have left this all the way to the tip like a normal bushcraft knife and would have continued this old forge maybe a little higher and just disappears a little bit into the tip it would have been a one but anyway very happy with it and I thought that I could share this with you okay now my throat is getting dry that means it's coffee time so for coffee we need a fire right let's talk a little bit about that fast fire so what do I mean when I say fast fire well a fire they'll be hot enough and sustain itself long enough to be able to get this coffee ready now there's not much water just enough for a coffee all I know all I need is some heat and also a fire that's not just fast but doesn't take much work so as you can see here I absolutely have no bottom protection at all I'm directly on the snow I don't have to go get a platform in this case because I just want enough heat to be able to get this on the go so my setup here is fairly low it's about it's not even a foot off the ground that's because I know that most of the heat will be here and eventually my fire will start sinking a bit so you want to keep this low any you know it's still adjustable I can still make it lower try and get the heat as fast as I can so what I'm going to attempt to do picked up some birch bark and well I don't really feel like taking my snow shoes off because I'm afraid I'm going to sink so I'm going to attempt and I do say attempt you get this going without taking my snow shoes off so as soon as it starts going you already start putting branches on and hopefully the wind is going to cooperate now a fire like this just needs tending to obviously fire likes to climb so need to keep feeding it so you get enough Heat see because it's adjustable I'm going lower all we need to do is to is 10 to it at this point as you can see my sticks are not very big I don't need to put some big six because the point is it's not to work too hard and the smaller stick will create a bigger flame which will heat my water fat all right she's ready I'd say from the time I started my fire to now not more than three minutes and I got a coffee going

actually there's probably enough for two cups like this so what I'm going to do I'm going to have my coffee and I explain to you what's going on or maybe I'll do that right now because we're still fire i'm not going to continue feeding it okay so just before i start explaining i just want you to take a look see there's nothing to wet their even got some nice ashes alright so i let the fire died down here just to show you a few things as you can see the bottom there's no problems there you see white ashes it's not of course the smoke has to come here no problems at all as I've mentioned before it's all because of the air pockets make a fire sustainable enough three minutes and my coffee was done and I didn't have to work that hard now this snow here I am 100-percent sure that it doesn't contain only twenty percent water this one will contain a lot more because the weather is milder and the snow is starting to pack up and as you can see here on the sides see that spot there that's wet but that's on the sides now eventually the you know the whole would widen up and keeping all that water from my fire because it's too hot there that little water evaporates and doesn't have time to affect the fire or drips down and then after a while this side here when there's no more heat it's going to crystallize so just thought i'd share that with you now what we'll do we'll take a look quickly at two other knives all right deal as I said quick look at two other knives again please forgive me about the lighting I know it's not the best but that's why I'm dealing with right now plus it's starting to snow so this next night next knife too bad you can see the color of the sheath your sheath is just a beautiful color which the camera doesn't give it justice but anyway this knife here is a Canadian knife maker by michael prior at STK our knives what amazes me about this knife here now this is your average you know normal bushcraft knife with your four-inch blade and overall you know a little over eight eight inches and so but too bad i'm ready to compare but this thing feels small and compact which i find it to be cool this on the belt won't even know it's there and it's you know not in the way maybe i'll make another video sometime and show you the difference but we'll see anyway is small and compact so well done Michael that's the first for me usually there's either too much leather or something but he done it this way and it's good okay let's take a look at the knife now knife four-inch blade sorry about that and overall of eight and a half the steel is 011 eighth of an inch spine hard to 58 60 maybe around that 12 degree bevel it's a not sure what you could call this it looks almost like a saber saber grind or a high scandi with a secondary bevel but it's a great knife a great field now I haven't tried it or anything like that yet it's just too much snow and don't feel like playing around with knives outside but great job the handles are the scales I think it's maple burl always lovely it's got your old left the forage on it here which looks cool man i don't like this lighting but anyway that's what it is so michael prior at STK our knives a canadian maker and i'll take a minute or two to show you something else that he does alright this is something else michael dunn sheath this is something new that he's been playing around with this kind of knife antlers dangler very nice get rid of the sheath a minute she is

as I said Michael was telling me that first time was playing with this a hammered steel and all that of course I repo filed it like I do some of my knives again I want you to take a real careful look at this knife see the end here that was kind of a great idea even though there's like light like a kind of a rat tank coming out that he folded up the knife is still a complete full tang your typical four-inch blade and maybe four and a half five inch handle some file work now as you can see on a few things this knife is not completely perfect

now I don't know if this was intentionally done or not but let me tell you I am happy that it's not perfect when you're looking at perfection and knives now this one doesn't have it but that's why I love it so much I think it gives it character if I let my imagination fly away a bit if you think of back in the day and a hundred years 200 years ago I know I'm not a history expert but I just imagined the old pilgrim that didn't have the you know maybe the right tools or knowledge and he'd go and make himself a knife it would not have been perfect so this type of knife makes me think of those days and because it's not perfect it gives it greater value for me anyway it's epic so Michael if you're watching very well done and you know why guys steal and bone makes a very solid knife well I hope that you enjoyed this little video this little fast fire is very effective on snow and you know it doesn't take much work three minutes I lit it up boom I had my coffee also I know some of you will be asking concerning Michael you know at STK our knives so I'll put his link in the description of this video if you want to check them out next we're going to be seeing i'm going to be showing you a survival belt but that's for the next video thanks for watching this is mike from bushcraft Barnes bye
