morning Dave Canberra its path fire school out with mrs. Pathfinder turning her ad to stay away from the camera and avoid it but she doesn't realize her heads hidden behind her stuffed animal hanging up her window anyway going out to find some poor man kit today she doesn't not a drive she messed up the camera anyway we're gonna cruise around here for a little bit around town and check them at discount stores and see what we can find for good stuff and we'll get back with you all right first stop on our truck today Salvation Army

military surplus it's got my name written all over it alright canteen cup four bucks canteen four bucks used not new hmm like this a little higher dollar than we want to spend guys I think we can find something better meal kiss 20 bucks used with no utensils Wow these prices are higher than my website okay let's go upstairs see what they got I know if this guy's got our two canteens and he's got 15 bucks on these things with no case and no cup might be better buying this stuff from my own website what it looks guys yeah we'll keep looking around alright keep going even here go in this back alley right take the roundabout way into the goodwill here guys no look at the Salvation Army and no look at the surplus store so which are a goodwill all right

next stop Ollie's bargain outlet good stuff cheap that's what I'm talking about

alright guys now we're talking stainless steel water bottle 399 will take one okay

six foot by 8 foot reversible brown and silver polypropylene tar our 99 six foot by eight foot camouflage tall $4.99 we'll take one hand-cranked emergency flashlight $2.99 see how she works guys looks good I tried one here a minute ago can't hold the camera one hand and do it at the same time but looks like it might be good we'll take one next stop Big Lots broforce carbon steel camping axe 5 bucks not bad heavy rubber grip pretty shabby we'll take this one Dollar Tree

next stop on the list let's see what we can find

okay we got two bamboo utensils here for a dollar one of these things make a dandy fine spoon just need to cut it off and there's an aluminum or a metal tin here it's got some kind of hazelnut coffee dippers in it let's trash those to keep the tin alright next stop my favorite Survival store Menards see we can find fellas okay Dollar 88 6 inch needle nose vise grips it's about as good as having a multi-tool as long as we got the other things that we need so let's keep looking till we get fine here okay alright we got a 3 inch lock back knife here says it's guaranteed forever guidance series $6.99 that's why minorities in my favorite Survival store okay fellas last stop dumb sporting-goods see looking fine okay we got a lifeline green safe sustainable simple $12.99 it's pretty expensive water bottle but it's a lot thicker than the one that we looked at loud loss I can't push it with my finger near as easy so I think we're gonna go with this one just spend the extra money now so it's gonna last okay let's talk about what we found today in our search for my discount bushcraft kit first of all we found this pack this is a actually a JanSport pack which is not a bad brand name and this pack what's four dollars at Goodwill it has a complete rubber bottom on it and it's even rubber on the inside we've got one outer pocket in one main pocket the straps aren't great but for no more waiting you're going to carry that thing and the fact that it's not going to get wet that's an excellent pack for four bucks absolutely no doubt alright acts showed us acts we found this axe at believe it was I lost for five bucks and I have not removed it from the packaging yet see how sharp it is so we'll do that and we'll see what we got I'm sure that it's not too bad it says this high carbon steel it says it's guaranteed forever I like that it's not a wood handle backs it is a metal handle backs which makes it probably slightly inferior in my eyes does have a nice little blade cover that came on it the wife to replace with a piece of leather but it's not a bad access decent needs an edge put on it for sure we'll have to scrounge around the house and see if we can find a file of some sort but for five bucks

that'll give us a pretty good shopping and pounding tool for $5.00 knife okay now because we had an axe I looked quite a bit for some type of no butcher knife or something like that at the discount store so they could not find anything Old Hickory brand knives things like that old butcher knives old kitchen butcher knives make very very good bushcrafting knives in fact those knives were preferred during the 18th century a lot of the belt knives that were carried by the long hunters and things like that of the period were knives straight out of their kitchen from butchering but going a little bit with Nez m'q as it worked we went with a folding knife because we're not gonna have to baton because we have an axe so we found a folding knife for six dollars now this knife says on there that it is guaranteed forever

so it must be a halfway decent knife it's got some wood handles screwed into a pair of frame type knife with fold-over lock on the front it's got a good sharp blade on it now it's about three and a half inches be a real good skinning and camp utility type knife small doesn't take up much room in our kit and that rounds out our tools and our pack the next thing we worried about quickly with shelter and we found this camouflage tarp for five bucks it's a fairly thin tarp would not be a very good winter type card but for messing around out in the bush in the summer having something to sit your bum on to keep it from getting wet things of that nature

very good it's got the grommets in it it's about a I don't know probably three little tarp it does have plastic reinforcements on the corner so that's a good thing and that was five dollars for six by eight so between our tarp our axe our knife and our pack we have exactly twenty dollars in this kit we were trying to stay at thirty dollars or below in this kit it was very tough to do that I want to admit the next thing that I looked at and this is the reason part of it was so tough to stay inside of I looked at he saw on the footage a stainless steel water bottle at one of the discount stores but it was very thin-walled

and it was actually a two piece bottle the bottom of the bottle actually was attached separately from the top and I'm afraid that wouldn't last if we were going to put it in the fire so I went ahead I had a coupon from the last time I was at Dunham's and bought something they gave me on the receipt at 20% discount my next purchase so this bottle was thirteen dollars with the 20% off it was just over $10 this is a lifeline very similar to the clean canteens it's got very heavy walls on it it's got a real nice top on it with a heavy-duty rubber seal in it and I don't think we're going to damage this thing too much by heating it up over the fire and things like that and gives us a good device for gathering water and cleaning our water purifying our water and then collecting our water so that brought us up to my thirty dollar mark now I went ahead and spent just a little bit more because there were a couple comfort items and things that we could get pretty cheap from there we've got a lot more items for our money so the next thing I did was I found this stainless steel bowl and I think this is just some type of dog dish insert but it's stainless steel says Made in China on it it is stainless and it cost two dollars for the stainless steel bowl so now along with this now I have two pieces of stainless aware that I can use now what I'll do is I bought a $3 can of rust-oleum high heat paint I will paint this bottle and I will paint I'll put this face down and paint the whole underside of this with that high temp paint what that will do is it will keep any of the resins in the woods I'm burning on the fire and cooking with this stuff from making this all sticky on the outside now let's talk about the next item that I bought which was only a dollar and 88 cents at Menards I bought a pair of 6-inch needle nose vise grips needle nose pliers are a very good multi-purpose item and they're really one of the only great things about having a multi-tool is having these pliers most people will agree with that it's nice to have a couple extra knife blades and a little saw and a little file and things like that and you know all for sewing but the meat potatoes of that thing is the needle nose pliers so for dollar eighty-eight what we have is we have a set of these Lowe's pliers we can use for gripping and holding things but we can also use it right on this ten as a handle and it will work very good to give us a pasta to cook it in a fire so we can not only boil water in this we can also cook in this which means we don't have to dump good water out of here to boil more water or emptied all the way to boil more water we can boil water twice okay so those two items I thought were pretty important now the next thing that I picked up was this 10 and the reason I picked this 10 up was because it was only a dollar at a dollar store and what we'll do with this is we'll punch a hole in this thing we'll use this to make our char cloth and we've this for a fire kit so we'll put one dollar cigarette lighter in here I bought a candle that costs one dollar that fits inside the ten so we'll put that inside there with our char cloth and our lighter and we'll have surefire in most conditions that way fairly cheap you know a dollar a dollar and a lighters three dollars we want to put a donut bar in here for five extra dollars we really be

shape but for the if this is a high carbon steel acts like it says it is it'll strike sparks so it needs char cloth in here for that as well when I added a little bit of money to our kit then I just picked up this bamboo spoon because it was a dollar and time is going to take me to carve a spoon out in the wild dollars worth it to me I could cut this off about right here and drill another hole in it and I'll have a small spoon and stick in my kit eat as a trencher from my bowl now I splurged a little bit on this item I guess because flashlights aren't really that necessary but for young people who are building discount kits it's always good have a flashlight this flashlight was $2.99 and it is a Roadmaster brand and it's a crank flashlight it cranks up the charges it's got a rubberized grip on it that tucks into it and it's got an area right here we put some cordage on it so we don't lose it it's got one LED bulb three LED bulbs red lights and flashers for signaling so it does a lot for what you get out of it it's hand crank so you don't to worry about batteries it's got rubber grips on the side of it it feels like a pretty sturdy light for you know the three dollars that we paid for it now the next thing I did was I went out and just got a couple of extra goodies here for our shelter I got 100 foot of pure cotton clothesline because of stuff we can use for wicking we can use it to burn which gives us for all kinds of stuff and it was three dollars for 100 feet and then I bought two three bungee cords at I think it was odd lights I bought these out as well to go with our camouflage tarp and they were if I remember right the bungees were two dollars so that brought the total of our kit for all of the stuff you see sitting here in the pack to 48 dollars now we could live with the thirty dollars worth a kit but we'd get a lot more convenience by spending you know eighteen dollars more so with this small amount of kit you've got all your bases covered

I think you're pretty good shade now we're going to talk about things that we can find around the house to add to this kit but this is going to be the base kit that we're going to start out with and I'm going to go ahead and show you guys tomorrow how to modify some of the stuff to make it work better for you and we'll look at that tomorrow and go from there this will be part one of our discount bushcraft getting it stay tuned for part two what I want to do with you real quick was before we end this video I want to look real quick at our list up here that we've got I actually put together a list for you guys real quick here we can go through and kind of that add up this stuff as it were I'll zoom in on so we have our pack at $4 our axe was $5 our knife was $6 now we wanted to better ourselves a little bit on that knife you know for $12 you can get a pretty nice more a 5/10 so for another 6 bucks you got a knife that's made by Mora

you know it's high carbon steel you know it's got a good Scandinavian grind you know it's going to float it comes in a nice plastic sheath it's a you know it's not a folding knife it is a handled one-piece knife it does have a 3/4 inch Tang inside of it and it's a good night for 6 bucks more so you're not beating yourself up too bad if you spend an extra 6 bucks the tarp we've got right now is a $5 variety tarp upgrade from that as we can but for now we'll start with the file our tarp we did get ourselves a good water bottle start off with I think this water bottle will last a long time and it costs us $10 with our discount we have our stainless steel bowl for $2 we have our fire kit right now which is consisting of a 10 a candle and a lighter at a dollar apiece we have our $3 crank no batteries needed flashlights we have three dollars worth of cotton cordage 100 feet of it we have our one dollar wooden spoon we have our plier tool which I put down there at one dollar but it was actually a dollar eighty eight's that should have been two dollars I apologize for that and two dollars worth of bungees and three dollars for the paint brought us up to $49 so we're still just under $50 for pretty much a complete kit other than securing meat sources and we can probably get a lot of that stuff right around the house and we'll take a look at that

so my name is Dave Canterbury with the Pathfinder school I appreciate you joining me for the first video in discount bushcraft kit and I will see in the next video thank you very much
