you

afternoon guys Dave Canterbury coming back to you with another video in the series the 21st century long runner talking about the versatility of the single-shot 12-gauge shotgun I've been doing some research lately online and looking to make black powder out of natural material and that's a pretty tough game to try to do you can make black powder from components you can order right off the internet but to find the three components that you need in the wild which means you need sulfur you need potassium nitrate and you're going to need some type of charcoal that's softwood like willow and then you have to process the components grind the components mix the components and if you are going to follow any recipes like out of Foxfire you're going to have to add urine to that which means you're adding ammonia to the nitrate which makes it a little bit hotter you don't have to necessarily do that it will work either way it's just a little bit hotter load if you add the ammonia to it to find those components in the wild would be a stretch of the imagination to find them all in one spot or even just happen upon them most of the bigger salt salt for beds and things like that are down south Louisiana Texas area to find a freshwater spring that has you know sulfuric water in it and then to find an area that was fertilized soil where you're going to find the nitrates that you need and then to burn all that charcoal and process it that's a lot of work so what I'm thinking is for this series I'm looking for an alternate to black powder that may work just as good that might be as accessible as pyro Dex black powder equivalent or black powder in a rural situation or a suburban situation in a disaster or bug-out type situation what else can I use to make this 12-gauge more versatile so what we're going to experiment today with is we're going to try to use strike-anywhere match heads for gunpowder so we're going to show you in this video how we process those match heads we're going to fire some different loads and different combinations for you and show you how that works out I think you're going to be surprised so stay with me okay so what we got here is we got a box that strike-anywhere matches a dollar 19 cents for 250 matches we're grinding

the powder off of these matches completely

and we're using 40 matches okay if you use 50 matches then you're going to get six shots out of a box of matches basically but we've been experiment with 40 and it works pretty good especially with shot we've been playing with some other ball ammunition let's see how it's working as well but right now shot seems to be a very very good load as you'll see in this video so the the process is exactly the same as loading a black powder into a 12-gauge shell that you've seen in our other videos the only difference is now instead of using black powder we're using ground-up match heads from strike-anywhere matches so this gives you another option to find your black powder component for a reload you know if you were looking for something alternate to black powder you couldn't find it for some reason stumbling across a box of strike-anywhere matches would not be uncommon in a rural or urban environment okay so here's what we got with 40 match heads ground up without the wood just the material ground up and a hundred green measure of BB shot now you can see some of those BBS did not penetrate fully through the target tells me it wasn't real powerful load but you know there's some that did and rabbit hide ain't going to be no thicker than that piece of cardboard is so it's definitely a load that would kill game and at close range we're shooting out at 10 yards but at close range that would definitely take game so we might try to increase the load on the match heads a little bit on the next round and see what happens whoo okay now this is 50 match heads ground up the same hundred gram measure a BB shot at the same distance at 10 yards you can see alder real tight pattern everything penetrated there's no doubt that's a small game load right there with 50 match heads and those are strike-anywhere matches that looked pretty hot there so that was six pieces of River Rock sixty match heads right yep

strike anyways let's go take a look at that height and see if I did any damage to the hide looks like it did from here but I can't tell it was already one hole in the hide so if it went through there be multiple holes okay so you had two holes in this thing originally that's a marbled hole and that's a marbled hole right there okay and then how many more holes we got in here now there's one there there's one there so we got least two of those river rocks penetrated that hide there's one there that's three so you got three out of six of those pellets went through that near hide with how many match heads 660 match heads right round man that's it that's a that's pretty good I mean that's four shots per boxes strike-anywhere matches with rocks that you can find anywhere all you really needs the primers and you rock and roll you
