when you're cutting these off there's no sense then cut them straight just to carve a point on there it's better if you just heard of that an angle to begin with you've already got a point you can pound into the ground two birds with one stone got the other end off you're ready to rock and roll leave myself enough tail there for a clove hitch

hold that more peace to the other side so yeah I'm sitting out here at my can't for the night and you know this really doesn't have to be anything complicated you don't have to get crazy with this stuff I've got my POC basket out here and I've got my trapper sled right there so I'm able to carry a few extra things but the things that I carry extra are not doodads and gadgets there are things to help me sleep better you know I roll up a two-inch like memory foam type mattress with a canvas cover on I've got an MMS sleep system here or an MMS black-bag not the whole sleep system that I put into a waterproof bag just a 20 liter waterproof bag and that water pers bag doubles as my ground mat to kneel in front of my fire to arrange things couple pieces of cookware ax saw knife a little bit of food you know if I get wild game I do if I don't like don't people seem to make a big deal about that nowadays oh you get people on the internet to say well if you're eating food from a grocery store in the woods you're not surviving and then the opposite people say well if you're killing stuff and you can just go grab food from the store you're wrong about that too you can't please everybody do what works for you remember that the old time was when even Horace Kephart Thomas Seton George Washington Sears all of those guys when they wrote in their books they talked about carrying food into the woods with them to supplement what they could get with Rod & Gun and the Pioneers did the same thing they took food from the settlements parched corn salt cured bacon those types of things with them into the woods to supplement wild game so just because you're out doing your thing in the woods does not necessarily mean that you should eat wild game every single day or you should have to if you're only going out for an overnight and you take something simple like I write in my books about just add water stuff that's fine if you happen to kill a rabbit or a pheasant or something while you're out small game hunting that day then it's a bonus she's got that food for later we're

can mix some type of just add water potatoes or some of that meat from that rabbit something like that to make a more hearty meal but you don't have to get complicated with this stuff it's not that difficult alright so again some coffee made here we got some chicken just white meat chicken in a pan here a little stir fry going on we're gonna mix some potatoes with that in a few minutes there's some old bay I'm gonna called out the meal of the night you got some coffee made smoothing it I like to really cut these potatoes up yet excuse me cut I like to cut this chicken up real well well I'm stir-frying it then I'm gonna have a little water to it and add a little Idaho and baby red potatoes to it I mean I do not even want to tell you how good I do because it's amazing and like I said before you know you can go out and you can buy freeze-dried type meals taking your backpack but a dollar bag of Idaho and potatoes I mean about a $2.00 bag of chicken there's enough food there for two meals easy didn't take anything to fix that a little bit of Old Bay seasoning and is absolutely delicious there's way more food there then I can eat in one setting for sure for about three bucks well

about time to hit the hay a halo around the moon up there that's usually a sign of impending weather I usually face my shelters here a little bit contrary to the norm I generally put the back of my shelter facing southwest whereas normally you'd want your opening of your shelter especially in a wintertime environment facing where the Sun comes up so south east or east the problem is the weather here comes from the direction of the south most of the time so if weather comes in here tonight from the southwest and I've got my shelter facing south I'm gonna have water coming in this open-faced shelter so generally speaking I don't pay attention to that old bit of wisdom there and always face toward the Rising Sun or the upcoming Sun during the zenith hours but I generally pay attention to the weather and our weather like I said Southwest so that's for my back of my shelter is hopefully if it gets too ugly tonight we'll stay dry
