morning guys I'm Dave Canterbury with self-reliance Outfitters in the Pathfinder school we recently had a class here the camping a wood crafts class this weekend at the school and a good time to get ideas floating around when I have all my instructors together bouncing things off each other and I did a demonstration in that class of the tripod ring the iron ring dropped over three sticks to make a quick tripod with a chain hanging off of it to adjust your pot up and down over the fire one of my instructor Scotty kinder said you know I think you can do without the ring and just use a piece of chain of the hook to become your ring with your chain hanging down below so I've made a chain with two hooks on it and this is just a simple piece of trap chain with two force books you can do this with carabiners or store-bought hooks if you didn't have the ability of the means to forge others and work the same way so the way this works is just wrapping around your tripod stand it up and spread the legs but there's a little bit of a sequence to it I'm going to show you that right alright so I've got the three legs stood up here together I'm just gonna bring this chain around and I want to hook the chain as tight as I could get it around this hook so find the spot on your poles that's a smallest in diameter you'll see if you can force your chain into it if you can't and you got a little bit of slack it's not a deadly sin if you got a little bit of slack in there but the tighter it is the better it's going to work what you're going to need to do is you're going to need to kind of spread these legs across each other on the front side and the trick to this is to make sure that this middle leg immediately comes in to the front like this and that's going to put the whole thing in an immediate bond and now you're going to have that chain hang it down in the middle and you can come in here and adjust your Dutch oven over the fire to the exact pipe you want it by just moving the chain up and down alright guys I appreciate you joining for this short quick temper truck video today on the tripod chain I'm Dave Canterbury with self-reliance out there in the Pathfinder school I thank you for your views I thank you first thank you for everything you do for our school our family and for our business all of our sponsored instructors affiliates and friends be sure to check us out at WWF reliance outfitter calm and I'll see you on the next video
