afternoon guys Dave Canberra the Pathfinder school back with other video on our blacksmithing series what I have here is I have a three piece folding small-game gambrel that was made by Tony Daniel this is a prototype and basically it comes apart so that you can't store it in your backpack very easily by slipping the middle ring out of one side and folding it down and you have something small and compact you can put in your backpack so we're going to try to replicate this with the force today and we're going to use a couple techniques to do this now we can use with a forging process to make this a little bit fancier a little bit neater this one was just quickly made up in a shop but I want to show you this project today we'll try to make one with the floor to see how it turns out so stay with me guys okay so we're gonna try to start off with a piece of just raw stock that's the same size basically as what was made out of the prototype and I think what we're gonna do is we're going to start with these pieces on the side here basically they've got to turn in them that goes on a ring and we'll have to make that ring they have a flat with a hole punched into it here in one Bend so you're gonna get a hole punch of this thing you're going to get a bend and we're going to put a fancy curve on this thing and then we may have to make a link as well so start with that see what we can do we'll try to match these up as we go

the first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna try to make a loop on the end [Music]

okay what that gives us now is that gives us one side of this game boom like I said I want to make a couple modifications I want to shorten this up a little bit and I'll take it sharpen this up with a file just a little bit and I bend it out a little bit more of an angle there as well you'd make it easier to get into the feet of the animal into that leg most pretty getting straight pound that a little bit cold a little bit

straighten it right out okay now we got to make another one just like this okay so we've got our two side pieces completed here one's got a little gap in it one doesn't they're a little bit off but I can turn that up and fix that in the end the next step is we got two more pieces we got to make them to make this shank that goes across the bottom this keeps us spread open and we also have to make a chain link make a chain link we have to do it for 12 so that's gonna be the hardest process we're going to do so we're gonna try to do that next basically we're going to turn this into a round chain link prep the edges and forwards weld it stay with us [Music]

[Music]

okay so now we've got an overlapping link right here I'm gonna create a little bit of spread with that [Music]

just want to eat them upon it something in between their spread that out just a little bit just like that now we're gonna superheat this thing and try to weld it together we don't have any flux I wish we had some borax or some sand we don't have any but we're gonna hope that we can heat this thing up enough to weld it as this we'll find out here just a minute [Music]

now what we gotta make is more peace and that's our cross bar it should be the easiest piece of make let's get other piece of bar stock [Music]

okay so we got our finished small game camera here it's not a bad attempt at a first copy of the original made by Tony Daniel we made this one on fours got a little fancier curls on things like that we'll go ahead sharpen these folks up probably with a file just like this okay guys well I appreciate join me for another video today I had some really good help on this small game camera I have my daughter Jessica and her husband Colin out here for Colorado Visiting they're both in the military and they're on leave so Colin was running a blower force and Jesse was giving some support over here holding things for smaller punching holes things like that we thank you for joining us for this video we appreciate your support we appreciate everything you do for us first school for our family we back to another video as soon as we can you
