morning guys they've calibrated the pathfinder school back here again with another video in our 21st century long winter series we've been talking about ammunition and black-powder loads for the modern day single-shot 12-gauge we worked on yesterday was a wax slug load and we noticed yesterday the things that we did did not work out properly so we wanted to kind of improve on that today an experimental further I brought Jeremy Janie on here with me today he's going to join me so stay with us we'll talk about what we're going to do in just a minute okay so what our intent today is to do is we're going to I got a message from a guy on YouTube yesterday and I think he left a message on the actual video as well and he was telling me about a load that one of his buddies called the dog turd so we're going to try a dog turd today to see if that will fire as one solid slug and what he said was you just take a piece of paper put your shot inside that piece of paper twist the ends down like a tootsie roll on us so it looks like a coyote or a dumb turd and then dip that whole thing into melted beeswax so we'll have melted beeswax we'll dip this into we'll pull it out we'll let it dry and that is what we're going to stuff into our shotgun shell so what we'll do is we'll kind of use our shotgun shell for a mold for this dog turd so we can make it the right size then we'll pull it out of the shell dip it in the wax let it dry step it back in the shell and that's what we're going to go with today for our first try on this wax slug now what I wanted to point out to you guys was I'm still getting comments about you know why don't you just load a pumpkin ball why don't you just load a a lead bullet well that's not what we're after here we know we can do that it's a no brainer to load you know 0.72 ball into a 12-gauge and shoot a pumpkin ball out of it that's a no-brainer LEDs expensive lens always been expensive it's getting more expensive by the day you can go get wheel weights sometimes and melt them down but even wheel weights nowadays aren't made out of solid lead anymore so let's get the harder harder to find what we're trying to do is we're trying to find something comparable to that that the common man can find in a wilderness situation or in a disaster

situation that we can use as a slug and yes we know we could cut slugs and we can cut around a normal 12-gauge shell and turn it into a slug by perforating the side of the shell and shooting it out all in one mass with the shot cup but we're trying to reload things and show reloadable ways to make this without using factory ammunition so stay with us while we do this experiment hope life some better results today ok so what we're going to try to do here is we've got our shot basically poured into a twisted piece of paper alright and I've kind of halfway measured the thickness of this shot but I just kind of shoving it down this shell a little bit but I'm going to make it a little bit smaller in diameter because I'm going to dip this whole thing in beeswax and that's going to be what I hope is going to hold this shot together when I'm done but basically I'm just rolling up you know a big fatty if I just want to call it and I'm going to dip it into the beeswax

and hopefully that's what we're going to use so I'll take you over to the beeswax in a minute show you what we're doing there then we'll trim this thing down and we'll get our shell ready to go Jeremy's going to fire it for us today and do the test so stay with us ok can see we've got our beeswax melting here on a stove in the wiki and I've got this wad that we made basically what I'm going to do is I'm just going to take this whole thing just like just fold it over I'm just going to dip it in this beeswax just like this and then I'm going to let it dry and I'm going to trim it off so I've dipped this load completely in beeswax now it's saturated it I'm gonna do that one more time just let it sit for a second but I'm going to pull it off the fire and set it outside in the cool and let this thing dry ok so we got our load cooled down here what I'm going to do is I'm just going to trim the ends of this off with my knife just like this and it's wrapped in there I'm gonna stuff it down to this 12-gauge shell real good squash it down in there and then Jeremy's going to come over here with the beeswax and cap it off for us

good enough yep all right let that dry we'll test it out okay so what we're going to do today is a little bit of a hard time seeing this yesterday that they get I'm gonna spray some paint on here today leave it wet and hopefully when Jeremy fires just round into it you'll be able to see where it hits leave a little bit we don't care all right Jeremy come on over here man let's see chamber that round let's see what that round looks like for you stick it in the gun okay so you can see our wad right there sticking out of our dog turd and it's plugged off all right chamber it up Jim let's get it done all right Jeremy the jerem you're going to walk back a few yards I'm going to get this camera set up close where you guys can see what's going on zoom in on this target hopefully you'll be able to see exactly what happens this time you

I hit with a lot of force act is it holy crap did sit actually where'd it go well see this you see alright so what we got there is we got a little bit of breakup still I think in our shot even with a solid hunk like that I still see different holes in here more than I mean they're close together the patterns tighten there's no doubt about that but it's not one solid mass for sure so there again you know we tried some suggestions from YouTube last night the only thing I haven't tried now that I got a suggestion on last night was to melt the wax and go ahead and put the actual shot in the wax and pour that into the shotgun shell so that's what we're going to try next here we go alright so we've reloaded another shell and now we put the powder in we put a patch on top of it Jeremy's just going to Jeremy's just going to seal that up real quick with wax and we're gonna let that dry before we actually pour any shot into it so this is just going to seal our powder by just a eighth of an inch cap on there's probably good enough Jeremy

probably melt that wax down look better now yep that's good perfect okay so what we're going to try this time is we got our shot and look up here just a cut-off can we got our show it's already been sealed up right here Jeremy's got some hot wax up for some hot wax on the top of this shot right here first and see how that pans out please going to solidify before we can get it in here see that's solidifies before you can even get it into the shot coat but we can do is we can dig that out of there with a stick until it is kind of a solid mass now so we'll just kind of get all together we'll put it inside this Cup we've heated up the shot now so that might play a factor in it I don't know that for sure but it might we'll dig this hot shot out putting the shell Goforth will stamp it down pour hot wax on top of that and see what happens

for capital murder alright we let her dry and we'll see what happens okay so Jeremy's got our load that we made up with basically a solid mass of balls melted into the wax and we're going to load that shawl up and we have got a milk jug over here set up again like we did with the d'Armes I want to get a reactive target for this we'll be able to tell I think whether shot hits it or whether one mass hits that I'm going to zoom in on a little bit for you so you get a good shot of it and then I can slow it down later we can look at it and we'll look at the target after it shoots it all right Jeremy whenever you're ready brother here you

holy crap who hit that milk jug brother okay guys you can see I mean that obliterated that milk jug now I think we might have got we wanted there I don't see a bunch of shot holes in this thing all I see is one entry right here you can see hit a little bit low because this is pushed inward but it absolutely exploded the whole bottom of this jug and actually came out the backside and still again there's one shot hole possibly right there but nothing around it anywhere so I would say there might be a shot hole here in here and maybe one right here but I'm telling you that's the closest we've had so far to a solid mass I would say from the experiments we've been doing that is one heck of a devastating round right I'd hate to get hit by that okay guys I'm Dave Canterbury and it's jeremy jenny from the path fire school what you can see with the experiments that we did today so far is that you know heating up that wax putting a shot into the wax and putting that solid mass in and then pouring wax on top of it really worked about the best of anything we've tried so far I also have another suggestion on YouTube yesterday from a guy he sent me up several times about using sinkers barrel type sinkers or goose egg type sinkers in a load like this as a pumpkin ball and I got thinking about that they talking up with Jeremy you know and that's a very multi-purpose item that you can carry would be a sinker because you can use that for your bank line to do a lot of things with it we'll talk about that in the next video because we're going to get some barrel sinkers right now we're back in a few minutes hope you enjoyed this video we appreciate your views we appreciate your support thank you very much
