morning guys thought I'd look at a few of the comments this morning over here on the laptop and got a decent connection right now I thought maybe I'd answer a couple questions real fast on this ran pretty good today so it's a constant battle of keeping this stove hot enough so that when the rain comes down through the hole it evaporates pretty much importance of ground the problem with that is I keep this temperature up around 75 or 80 in here to do that it's pretty warm I don't like it down warm I prefer colder temperatures a couple quick questions I want to answer I don't want to spend a lot of time doing this and going through a lot of because it would take you know a good long time there's a couple of things I want to cover with you guys today while it's raining we're kind of stuck here for the moment the first one has a lot of people ask me about this jacket that I was wearing in the rain yesterday and this is a Duluth pack company anorak okay and you can get it off their website pretty expensive I walnut died mine when you see it it'll be white it won't be this this gray brown color I walnut dyed mine in a video not long ago you can find it on the internet I can't remember the name of the video but it wasn't long ago probably less than a month ago that I did I won't dyed this and showed it Duluth pack company has it's called the anorak you should be able to order it with a Pathfinder logo on it you you can't order you need to lose merchandise with the Pathfinder logo on it we've got that set up with them right now if somebody you've talked to somebody at the Luther they tell you that you can't do that then ask to talk to somebody else because you can I sent Tom Sega a email this morning at Duluth pack company when I saw a couple comments on here about that the other question I had was a lot of people are asking me about the hat that I wear and we're talking about this one has got raindrops all over right now from being outside chopping firewood this morning but this is a Pendleton wool hat okay it's our percent wool made in America it's a Pendleton again you know sometimes I think you kind of get what you pay for this hat was about $60 but it's pretty bulletproof its multi-purpose somebody asked me that question yesterday we talked about when I talked about the cross necklace being multifunctional somebody said is your hat multifunctional of course it is who wants to get up in the morning and try to rekindle their fire and get their face down in the ashes to start blowing all over it and getting hyperventilated trying to blow air back into your fire where you can just sit there and do this so it's very multifunctional okay and because it's wool it's fairly waterproof so in an emergency I could use this to collect water with and dump it somewhere else if I had to do that so yes it's multifunctional plus you know it gives me a wide brim keeps the Sun out of my eyes it provides a microclimate of shade a little bit in warmer weather I wouldn't wear this in the summertime necessarily but it does give you that microclimate of shade around you it's wool so it holds heat in a little bit you know a lot of your heat escapes from your head neck area especially when you're standing upright so having something on your head that's made out of wool like that whether it's a toboggan or whether it's a hat whatever it may be you know it's going to keep heat further trapped into your body so yeah it's definitely a multifunctional piece of gear the other question I wanted ATIS a real quick was I had a couple guys asked me about this pack that I've been carrying and this is a this is a Duluth pack company pack it's called the scout pack okay and I don't know if it's called that because it's made for the Boy Scouts I really never asked I'm saying about it or because it was made for more of a one-day type pack like a day pack type of thing but I'll tell you when I'm looking for gear you know I look for gear a lot of different ways number one I look for stuff that's bulletproof I've said that over and over and over again you know you want something that's going to last you a lifetime

Duluth packs are guaranteed for life if you tear it up they'll give you a new I have yet to ever tear one up I've got a couple of they're several years old I haven't tore up yet I've talked to people by email and you know on the phone that I've had to leave packs you know for 20 or 30 years and they're still in good shape and they're still serviceable so I think that their packs are bulletproof and sometimes I think that's worth the money now this pack is not very big as you can see it's not much bigger than a hammer sack and that kind of brings us to a little bit of a converse

about in the 21st century long under series we talk about carrying gear if you look at what the 18th century and early 19th century punters truckers Scouters Scouts whatever you want to call those guys carry market hunters things like that even people like Daniel Boone Davy Crockett its early explorers like Simon Kenton you know those guys would carry generally they carry about three bags and a bedroll and what they do only did was they would carry a shop pouch that had a powder horn attached to it they would carry a hammer sack which was usually something that was hanging from the other shoulder on the opposite side and it would be a baguette would carry their sundries or their Possible's their sundries their accoutrements for cooking starting fire things of that nature then they would either carry one of two things or both they would either carry a bedroll which basically was on a hump line that would be their wool blanket and possibly an oil cloth trail tarp of some kind and maybe a spare set of mocks or a spare set of wool liners for their mocks or maybe even a spare set of wool leggings if they were wearing brain tan or vegetable tanned leggings at the time they might have a set of they might have a set inside that were made of wool and they would roll that up into their bed roll and they would strap it together put a tough line on it and carry that now the other thing that they might carry is they may take this hammer sack and in lieu of carrying the hammer sack they might carry what was called a knapsack and that's very close to what this Duluth scout pack is it's more like a knapsack it's a single envelope design this does have one inner pocket on the inside of it I'll do a full review on this pack on another video but it's not much bigger than a hammer sack and it's made just to carry your the things in that you need and it this one has just a few things in it has the five Cs basically in it - mine is on my side but it does have a spare pocket folding knife in it as well and then with this you can get away with not carrying the hammer sack just have the shop bag the shoulder bag and then maybe the bed roll so it's kind of one of those things where you kind of decide what's comfortable for you and that's kind of what I'm doing I'm experiment with different things but if you're just going to go out on a day Scout or something where you're not just by planning to spend the night but you might you know you never know but you're not going to be gone for two days at least not planning to be gone for two days then you want to carry something smaller you know the Duluth bushcraft pack that I've been carrying a lot of my videos that people want me to do a review and I will do that I did one a couple years back but I'll do another full review on that pack shortly it's more of a three-day plus type long-term sustainment type pack it's got a lot more room in it but it's a lot bulkier is a lot heavier so for something light and easy I prefer just add a pack or knapsack like the Scout pack and again you know Duluth pack company their stuff is not cheap but it's made in America it's all made by hand and it's all guaranteed for life and I think that's an important aspect to understand when you're buying gear is this gear guaranteed for life does this manufacturer stand behind his equipment are they gonna replace it if something happens to it you know those are all important things to understand I'm a gonna be I'll pass this on to my children that's important for me at least you know is I want gear that I can pass down to my children and possibly they can pass down to their children because that leaves a legacy and I think that's important you know I have things that belong to my grandfather I have things that belong to my father I think that's important because it gives you keeps you in touch with your roots I think at that point so I wanted to kind of go over that with you today just a couple little tidbits of information I also wanted to answer a couple questions off the videos or yesterday as far as the spiced video goes that we did yesterday so it was a couple guys that asked for more detail on that the DVD will have much more detail as far as herbalism goes I don't like to try to give medical advice over to the internet or on YouTube because it's too easy to misconstrue it or leave something out I like to give general information and you can dig and find out what you want to find you know from other resources a couple guys asked me what book I was reading out of when I was doing that video as well as a couple of other videos I've done and really you know I'm reading out am i right in the rain Journal because what I do is I write everything down in this journal and I keep a lot of notes in here but I can tell you that the notes that I get for herbalism in general and use of verbs come from three books three main books good and

those three books are generally one of these three or all three in combination it's the book of her wisdom by Matthew wood the Earthwise horrible Volume one and two was your book by Matthew wood one covers old world one covers new world just about any plant spice or any herb that you can think of will be covered in one of these three books and there's a lot of good recipes in here for how to use them dosages what a almost they'll take care of and things like that you can get all three of these books on amazon.com for less than fifty dollars
