good morning guys Dave Canterbury at the path fire school I wanted to show you a few items today that are made by a company called deep woods handcraft and these are not necessarily what I would call a product review because these things are very uncommon man priced but they're also handmade one at a time no two are ever going to be exactly alike they're not made on machines or anything like that this guy does everything by hand so it's all custom work what I really like about this stuff from deep woods hand craft and I own several pieces I'll show you in a few minutes we'll walk through them is that it is what I would call artifact quality merchandise and what I mean by that is 200 years from now when somebody says this is a bag that was carried by a 21st century woodsman that bags still going to be around that bag will still be available as a museum artifact just like bags that were found from the Revolutionary War from the Civil War from the war of 1812 leather shooting bags leather haversacks those type things that have survived 200 plus years are what I would consider artifact quality items and I think depot is handcraft makes not only items that are works of art but I think they're artifact quality and I want to show you some of those items today and just introduce you to deep woods handcraft personally stay with me guys okay let's start off by talking about a couple of haversacks made by deep was handcraft this is my personal power sock and you can see this thing's made out of like moose hide and every stitch of it every fold at every scene is hand-sewn not machine sewn hand punched hand sewn it has saddle quality buckles on it heavy-duty brass hand-sewn in there on both sigh let me look at that doubled over to make sure there's no way anything's ever gonna happen to that thing saddle quality brass buckles on there heavy-duty leather straps this one's made so that you can actually put a bedroll or a tarp or rain gear like the watch code or something like that underneath it and then strap it over the top it has a carrying handle on the top right here again look how heavy-duty that thing is sewn in there there's no way that's ever coming off the straps on the back that have passed through there's three pieces of solid leather right there that are sewn together heavy-duty like oil tanned leather that are sewn together and they continue down here then it goes around to the inside there's a pocket on this side something a size of like an Altoids 10 would fit in there just fine again look at the heavy-duty buckle on just that little small pouch on that thing it's got a hanging d-ring here on this side it has an axle loop or tool loops that you could put your tomahawk or your hand axe in there it has a huge pocket on the inside of it and again you can tell by looking at the inside of this thing everything in here is just heavy-duty hand sewn stitching together by hand every lap every seam it's a beautiful beautiful piece of work the strap on this thing is just I mean it's like belt quality leather on this strap heavy-duty brass buckle on there even this even the loop the keeper loop look at the sewing on that keeper loop it's doubled over and hand-sewn all the way across riveted here hand-sewn doubled over this thing's like as thick as the belt that I wear almost every day that's made for the shoulder strap I mean this is just some really really heavy-duty nice gear so this is my outer side this however sac belongs to miss iris and it's another beautiful everything on it hand-sewn heavy duty belt on their floor shoulder strap you're not going to tear this stuff up and the stuffs gonna last forever when will you take care of the leather there's no way you're gonna hurt this this one's beautiful dark on the inside it has a double pocket or double pouch here or she can put things inside that but that snapshot everything about this guy's work just absolutely screams number one quality I mean it just screams it and I think that that's important for us in the sense of not only our gear lasting for a long time but as far as what I'm talking about artifact quality gear this stuff is it now let's talk about some of its smaller items you know this is this is just an example this is a shoulder strap that came with my hammer sack and I don't have it on there but the time it took just to make this shoulder strap pad is probably crazy it's a piece of moose hide over a heavy-duty piece of vegetable tan or oil tan right here with the slots cut in it for the strap there's three pieces of leather sewn together on there all the way around and it's padded on the inside of that soft piece of vegetable Tanner oil tan right there that strap probably took three or four hours just to make that strap so think about what that's worth and there's no way you're gonna wear that out okay so let's look at a couple other small items this is just a small you know bag like a ditty bag to put something in it could be for your fire kit whatever the case may be I mean this thing is pleated and sewn of very very thick heavy duty vegetable tan probably moose hide is really really thick it's got heavy duty lacing through it with antler closures on this side it's got a hanging strap on this side is zig zags through the bottom of it just for decorative for reasons nothing else everything's hand-sewn I mean just look at the quality of just that little pouch that pounds probably in my opinion took three or four hours just to make that ouch that's a lot of time and energy to put into something that you're going to sell to someone else but at the same time again artifact quality you're never ever going to wear that thing out this is a belt pouch made by deep woods handcraft and you can see that it the same thing as that pouch I just showed just that real heavy-duty moose hide it's got a nice closure on it with a piece of antler right there the thing is sown and gusseted all the way around it's got a nice gusset in it right here look at this strap on the back of this thing for your belt I mean that thing is unbelievable there's no way that's ever coming off of there look at the hand sewing on there the slits for your belt to go through there's absolutely no way you would ever lose that pouch or tear that pouch off of a belt it has a secondary pocket right here with a piece of antler closure on it or you can pull that out and open that up and it gives you like a little envelope pocket to put your fire lens or whatever the case may be your magnifying glass whatever you want to stash in there maybe a blanket pen close that shot on the flap and then you have that big opening on the belt pouch as well just a beautiful beautiful piece of handmade leather work there's a couple items I've got here that Rob has sold at canteen shop in the past on his website and these are both made by people it's handcraft as well this one here is just a little small fishing kit and again you know everything about this just screams handmade quality you look at this thing and it's got an envelope down here to put us some fishing lines in or some needles whatever the case may be I got a few sail needles in there it's got all of these little hook loops our hands sole hand sewn in there to hold as many fish hooks as you can stand to stick in there pretty much and the whole thing is just heavy I mean look how heavy-duty thick that thing is it almost stands up by itself like a board it's so heavy-duty everything hands sewn on there let me put these back in and we'll fold it back up the thing folds up very very small it's got a beautiful leather closure that's been wrapped in sinew here with an antler with an antler closure on it you just pull that down tighten it down and you've got a little miniature fishing sewing kit in your bag I mean that's just beautiful stuff and that is absolute artifact quality you're never ever going to wear that thing out as long as you take care of it here's another belt pouch made by deep woods handcraft and this is a beautiful piece as well it has again antler closure wrapped wrapped leather wrapped incentive it has one big open pouch on it it has a small envelope pouch on the front look at all the hand sewing inside that it's just unbelievable that work that this guy does it's got a pouch here for like a folding knife with a nice wrapped again wrap the leather closure to pull that thing down on the bottom it has another one just like it that's got tinder stored in it it's got a d-ring on the side where you can tie something to it or attach it to it belt loops on the back sewn in all the way up into here this thing sewn in plus here there's just no way you're gonna lose that no way you're going to destroy that long as you take care of the leather that thing's gonna last you forever and I think that's part of what you have to think about when you're when you're spending money on something and again like I said this stuff is far from common man this is not something that you're going to go out and just purchase everyday this stuff is things you're going to have to save up for most likely but you're going to have this kind of stuff forever you're never ever going to lose it you're never going to wear it out it's going to be it's enough it's a family heirloom

and that's why I say it's artifact quality because that's what it is this guy's not a manufacturing plant where you can just turn this stuff out you know like it's going out of style and he makes thousands of them every one of these things is handmade by him and when you order something from him or give him a design that's something that you want it's going to take you a while to get it probably because he's gonna make it by hand but when you get it I mean look at the quality of that thing all right I want to show you one more piece of gear real quick and then I'm gonna get off the deep woods hand craft soap box I just wanted to show you this gear because I really really love it let me show you a bed roll a bed roll strap

okay this is my bedroll strap and this has basically an 8 foot by 8 foot oil cloth and my CJ wildy wool blanket rolled up inside of it again belt quality leather strap heavy duty harness quality connectors on it d-rings hand sewn all the way around nice big long leather straps on there so that I could put something twice this big in here if I wanted to it's got double holds on it here so I can put it I can attach to a backpack if I want to I can attach to my saddle if I want to if I'm going to take this on my horse I can tie it down into my canoe whatever the case may be plus I've got the other side that I can hook my shoulder strap to if I need to it makes a perfect carrying handle if you want to carry it that way but the thing is just absolutely 2 rivets here two rivets here hand-sewn hand-sewn hand sewn hand sewn the thing is just there's no question in my mind that this thing 200 years from now somebody can look at this and say that's what equipment was built like 200 years ago and that's what I would like to see out of my gear I want somebody to say look at the quality of the gear that they carried 200 years ago you know in the 22nd century or the 23rd century that's what I want so deep woods handcraft

out of Alaska he's got a Facebook page I believe he's got a website as well you can contact him through rob a canteen shop as well if you can't get ahold of him but his gear is really really spectacular and I wanted to share some of it with you guys today I do carry the stuff off camera a lot and I'll probably start carrying up more on camera now I haven't been doing that because I hadn't shot a video on the material yet and I knew I would get questions about it but now you've seen about every piece of it I've got so I'll probably start carrying it more on camera now than I did before so deep was handcraft out of Alaska definitely Pathfinder school approved the guy is an artist in his own right for sure and he makes artifact quality leather goods guys I'm Dave Canterbury at the Pathfinder school when I apologize if this sounded like you know an infomercial for deep was handcraft but

I really love the things that he makes I love the fact that he is an American craftsman that's still making things one piece at a time by hand to support his kids and support his family I respect that wholeheartedly and I think that you'll enjoy his work too if you even get a piece of it you know even if you just get a small pouch like this or a small fishing kit you'll enjoy that piece of kit for the rest of your life I appreciate everything you guys do for me for my school for my family for my friend sponsors affiliates all my instructors I'll be back to another video guys as soon as I can thanks

you
