morning folks I'm Dave Canterbury with self-reliance outfitters in the pathfinder school what I'd like to do this morning is I'd like to introduce you to the new counsel tool wood craft series pack axe and I'm very very pleased to be working with council tool as a partner and helping to promote as well as sell the new wood craft Series access and the wood craft series of AX is going to be a premium Series acts very much like their velvet cut series but these are designed with wood crafting in mind and Kraig roost who's a good friend of mine from axe junkies was the designer of this axe just to give you a little backstory and as we talked through his design on the axe and some ideas that he had ideas that I had things like that and as the prototype was being developed he was looking for a name for the series of axes and he's like you know we're having trouble kind of over the name and I said you know what call it the wood craft series we need to bring that wood crafts name back to America everything used to be wood craft not bushcraft the wood craft series axe will help bring down American tradition back from a great American company like Council tool so I want to talk a little bit about the specs on this axe with you show you a little bit about some of the accessories that you can buy with this axe and then we'll put a little bit of footage in here of using the axe to show you what its capabilities are and what I like about this axe stay with me okay so let's speak about the axe a little bit here we have a 2-pound head on this axe there are two different handle lengths available for this axe a 24 inch handle which is what I prefer it fits me perfect from my poem to my armpit that's a perfect size pack axe for wood crafting for me it also comes in a 19 inch handle again with the same head just a 19 inch handle that's good for a bedroll or something like that a smaller more packable type axe if that's you prefer I've got measurement markers on the back of mine that do not come standard on the ax but that's basically Bernard Mason 101 the wood crafters ruler is on the back of his axe it has wood craft Council tool emboss'd in the very very nice Hickory handle this is a select series of axial everything about it is going to be plain yet I want to show you a little bit of a close-up of the design of this head that was designed by Craig roost because I think it is a very nice carving type axe as well as a very good splitting axe and a good axe for all around camp chores that great for wood crafting in general okay let's discuss the design of this actual quick I think that Craig roots did a fantastic job with this axe you can see that there are areas here that not only reduce the weight of the axe overall because they're basically reductions in material thickness but they also don't hinder the axe in any way shape or form as far as its function or stability with the heaviest material right down the center of the blade and I like the way this blade fans down I like the slight drop on the front of it so even in the winter time if I'm wearing gloves this axe is going to be a very comfortable carving type tool all right so let's talk about this axe for a minute and some of the accessories that come with the axe now the axe comes standard with a black mask and I do not have that small black mask at this time it's on its way to me from counsel tool now it has just recently been received back from a weaver leather company all of the leather for these axes made by weaver say you know that's a good standing american quality company as well but that mask comes standard on this axe and i believe the price and don't quote me exact on this because i'm going to be a few dollars either way off but the 24 inch handle with the normal stock mass that comes with this axe is in the 150 dollar it's range maybe a little less the 19 inch handle is in the 140 range maybe a little bit less not sure but that's close now what counsel has done is they've also designed a really really nice what they call a heavy duty mask and it comes in two parts that are available the first part is just what they call the heavy duty mask and it has an area on the back with slits to put on your belt so you can belt carry the sacks it has a really nice thick heavy duty sheath with two snaps on the front sewn with a welt and riveted the axe fits into it really really well and it also has on this mask 2d rings again that are riveted on with metal bracketing and those rings are made to put a sling on this axe so that you can sling carry it in the woods and you can't now before I go there this mask here is about fifty bucks just for this mask but again it's an american-made mask it is an heirloom quality masked it's probably going to last you a lifetime and unsung and you'll be able to pass us down your children now you can also buy for like another 20 bucks something like that this sling with clips on it that go on here like this and just clip on and then the handle has a velcro slot on it and it slides and then you just clip it to the other side and it gives you that traditional ax carry of more of a sling type design so that you can sling that thing right over your shoulder if you desire to do that just like that they take off into the woods and you can hang it on either side whether your left or right handed obviously so that's a really nice part of this package as well and I want to give you kind of an up-close view of this sheath as well because I think this sheath is just fantastic so you can see how it fits in that sheath it's got two slots in it for your belt they're real heavy-duty snaps real heavy leather fits in it like a glove just perfect very very nice piece of kit to go with a premium acts like this wood craft ax okay guys well I'm excited to be partnered up with council tool in this woodcraft AK series project and I've been working with Craig roost and council tool now on this project for several months I get a lot of the prototype testing of the early prototypes of this Craig ruse designed ax and I think that he's come up with something along with council tool who is a long-standing American company that fits the bill to bring back the wood craft tradition to folks in the US I appreciate your views I appreciate your support I thank you for everything you do for school for our family for business of our sponsors instructors affiliates and friends and be sure to check out our products at self-reliance Outfitters com thanks guys
