click variation to the Indian firelight instead of using the four directions it's the Starfire lay Starfire lay is the Indian far away except instead of four you go with eight you add four more at the diagonals so I have the four corners of the four directions for the Indian fire lay the modification to make it a star fire lay is to add the north east south east right Southwest Northwest you add the in between so now we have needing file a going one way needing file a going the other way and this modification is called a star firelight same as the Indian firelight I can start this file a at the beginning as my platform I can have my eight spokes to my star right off the bat fill my platform off of it right on top of it ignite it the firewoods already there it's on fire right inside the spokes all the points ignite as they burn away just push them in works really well that way another way that I do it same as the Indian is after I build a fire Lee I you should build a teepee after I build a teepee and I have a good bed of embers my teefies roaring and I want to move the logs one of the ways is to do an Indian or star and the start modification works really well especially when you have a roaring fire it's late at night it's really cold and you want a fire that's not four feet tall but you want a fire that's two feet tall but robust it's not being fed off of twigs and sticks you want to burn logs you don't want just one or two stacked on there and top of each other when I want a good robust fire that I know is gonna be rock solid during you know snow storm rain incremental weather or if I just want it to last a long time and not need a lot of maintenance then I go with a Starfire lay I just put the four then I put the other floor I have eight total works really well the logs burn a long time because they're serious fuel I mean I use real logs four-inch logs real fuel and they burn a long time I'll lay next to my fire that's what I'm doing that night all I got to do is push in four to six of them not of closest to me everything keeps on working and as it cooks down it just keeps landing on the logs underneath it's a really simple fire lay that just makes a lot of sense it's a great modification to the Indian firelight this is the Starflyer light it's ben mitchell the in survival school subsec at a website and it is viable calm and as always enjoy the outdoors
