hey sweety nanna sebab it's gonna rain it all day absolutely downpouring just a few minutes ago let's see if we can make a bow joke it stay tuned ok so this section of the woods is predominantly pine now what I'm looking for is a dead standing sapling it didn't make it down might be good one right there see how it the bark is falling off you can see this applet on the outside let's give it a shot

alright so if you'll have a saw it's a great option get two trees nearby you can see I broke it off at the node C pine has growing nodes you always want to do that because the good stuff is right in the middle between the two I'm going to go in half with this okay so as you can imagine this was one node this is one bow drill kit I can make dozens and dozens and dozens of kits out of this one sapling and the beauty of it is this is successful tinus come back pick up the sapling good to go and put in a spot right next to my camp you know put spring into camp and then you want to lean it up against a tree so the water just keeps running off of it and it's like it's as if it's still dead standing I won't soak up moisture laying on the ground all right this is the two pieces of pines gathered wrong one will go to spindle I can make my offenders about that long I'm a tall guy so you want to make your kit equal to your hype you know looking ratio I'm like 64 so I like a big long spindle I don't like to use a little a little rinky-dink set let's use a big bow and joining me let's do the spindle first time feels pretty hard there's eastern white pine here's your pretty soft I'm still standing

sure to be a challenge what is very wet now as you're reducing we want to look at the pc working on until this area is more wet and broken down than the rest I'm gonna want to take more material down this side I want to carve that out of the spindle another thing is you don't want to have all heart would because sapwood is the wood that really works well at least for pine and actually foremost woods I gotta say it doesn't feel like a very good piece several factors that I use to determine whether or not I had a good piece in on one thing is wait pretty heavy some time gives you very very life so it's a lot of moisture in it it smells like this some SAP still in there and another thing is that it's really hard it's a really hard to carve normally when you carve pine it just comes off in sheets almost full length that you're cutting just one big piece is flying off you know so we'll see what happens on this ok so it's kids giving me a run for my money in for carving it for like 20 minutes 25 minutes craziness see what i'm doing here we can see the heartwood right here you see how there's more SAP out on this side so I'm slowly taking this side and I'm bringing it over so when i get to the width it's going to be you know half heart have sat instead of taking all sides in equal then i have all heartwood ok so i'm taking one side more than the other than that it's gonna give me more SAP wood at the end you know I also have like the rotten wood here so I'm working on bringing that up you know so you have to kind of work with the piece to figure out the best way to get the best would you can out of it

alright so I want to just mention that one thing you don't want to do try to save time

is to patong through this you know be a knife here banging all the way down absolutely trashes the green end up with all these warps in the wood and it just seems to be very unstable and you listen up with a smaller piece of ther piece and you want and thin talk boards if you can if you're working on the hot for it or just absolute junk you know you end up spinning right through them and you know half of its up off the ground because it has a big warp in it things like that by carving it you get a nice stable peace everything is just you know solid and has it been ripped apart things like that Petaling really ruins a kit you end up getting one fire out of a kit

you know you end up getting one fire out of a kit that was baton instead of making a kit that will make you dozens of fires right because it's it's a solid you know piece of machinery you know it wasn't just flipped together and falling apart and you know and all that stuff so I don't mind taking a little bit extra time to do it right you know
