yes which need survival today we're gonna talk about something that's near and dear to my heart and some of my friends have known that I've done this for many many years and that is the one kit mentality this is like I was saying very near and dear to my heart because it's reality okay it's self-reliance it's it's the world that's really out there you know you know we tend to kind of forget that sometimes and when we make summer kits and winter kits and you know this that and the other thing and what ends up happening is that you end up having a kit that really kind of is not viable at all in the woods it's only viable for a certain time of year and like I said it's not reality you know it's like if you're feel living out of your pack and you are exercising self-reliance well you can't go back home you're self reliant of your home okay so you can't be holding kit at your home and swap things out as the temperature changes it has to all fit in your one kit okay so we either carry what we need or that we carry before tools which allows us to make anything we need to meet those needs so the basis of the one kit mentality is literally a single kit throughout the year all seasons all the time

no matter what you have one kit that meets all your needs all the time at your particular latitude and that's incredibly important so that means that I care need to be winter resilient yet flexible enough for summer okay so for time constraints I'm not going to go over the uses of every single one of these

the kit it's pretty obvious that you know what blanket is used as your bedding you know when it's cold right so we're gonna go from there I'm gonna say all the pieces of kit you have to use your analytical mind to understand clearly what it is that's used for number one my jacket right it's a weather resistant rain shell I also carry with me lots of wool gear gloves mittens outer leather mitts all right when it gets like Arctic over here zero degrees and below stuff is key you know scarves hats neck warmers all that right this allows me to move comfortably in the wilderness also by wearing wool sweaters things like that it provides the warmth side of it as well as I use my layers to properly adjust my heat in my body core and by using hoods and my poncho which I always think right up top on my kit gives me that outer shell to really work against the elements as well the summer modification for this jacket on the inside

I have a insulative layer so my rain layer can separate so in winter I use both layers add add the extra insulation for the summer if it's just raining I can wear just my rain shell and there's no warmth to it now okay so let's talk pants real quick so I'm wearing canvas pants the Boy Scout of America pants and this allows me to unzip and turn it into shorts right so that way I have the summer option and I have the winter option now I only wear long sleeve t-shirts this is my winter option in the summer look at that short sleeve shirts right Footwear I tend to go three different ways

I have gore-tex boots I have my moccasins and I also go barefoot as well
