Bushcraft Knife Review - TBS Boar | TA Outdoors

Description

Bushcraft is becoming increasingly popular in the UK. One of the most important tool is a bushcraft knife. They need to be strong, durable, sharp and practical. The TBS Boar ticks all of these boxes. It is a good quality bushcraft knife that is not made in large quantities like some knives. Mike gives a full review of the knife, as well as a test on feathering sticks at the end of the video. We hope you enjoyed this review.

okay so the first thing I noticed about the TBS bore bushcraft knife is the leather sheath that it comes with it's an immaculate leather sheath and actually it's a little bit different to your conventional knife sheaths really you're kind of dangler Nordic dangler type sheets this is I'm all about practicality when it comes to bushcraft and I really really like this it's got a nice little slot for the fire steel and actually just underneath here this can fold out and there's extra storage just underneath here which would be great for kind of a DC for dc3 knife sharpening stone which could live flat down there you could probably put matches and things like that bit of cloth maybe a cleaning cloth or even a bit of char cloth or something like that that you could put in there it's very very practical which I love I think it's brilliant and to have your fire steel you know connected to the sheath itself it's just brilliant because then you can just work not that I do use the back of the knife with a fire steel but you could do if you felt the need arise the sheath itself is very well stitched I've actually maintained it with a bit of dubbing just to kind of proof it a bit because they doubt it's going to get well used I've been using the fire still already it's really really good fire steel the other great thing about this sheath is that you can actually wear it horizontally on your belt through belt straps here which is great if you're in a boat and you're you're canoeing and things like that you don't want you your knife is your knife and you know your sheath digging into your hip so it's kind of got the option to wear it horizontally and vertically through the loop there I personally prefer to wear mine vertically cuz I'm not sitting down too much I'm generally you know standing up doing things and it makes it easier for me to get the knife out it's just a simple pop catch there and the knife slides out so overall really really great chief love the practicality of it really good quality leather I'll probably change the cordage a bit here perhaps put something a bit different on there but you know there's there's a wide variety of options here now let's have take a look a little bit closer at the knife itself okay so here's the TBS bore bushcraft knife itself it's an absolutely stunning bushcraft knife I got this one I chose to get it in Turkish Walmart the scales the handle I prefer a lot of people got the curly birch version I've seen a lot of Kutty birch kind of versions up and people with videos on curly birch so I decided to be a bit different and go for a pretty unique one really this is darker than what it would normally seen this Turkish Warren up because I've treated it with linseed oil for last 7 days I've been treating this handle with linseed oil just wiping it on with a cloth once a day and that's why it's got that lovely dark colored coloring to it now and I think it looks really really nice and the great thing is that the fire seal itself is matching as well matches that knife handle its Turkish walnut - which i think is really nice just a nice touch there and they give you that option which is great overall really really good well-balanced blade it's made of Bowler k 720 high carbon tool steel I've not really heard of K 720 tools still before I've heard of you know your oh one tool steel which is generally kind of good strong material I definitely opted for the high cut a high carbon blade purely before the knife sharpening properties the stainless steel admittedly it would probably obviously not rust as quick but it's much trickier to sharpen so I went but I prefer to go for a high carbon steel blade purely because it's easier to sharp and I'll be using it a lot and I'd rather have a blade that's easier to sharpen I can maintain this with some basically gun oil really you can get kind of cheap bisley your standard Bisley gonna oil which would help to maintain the blade itself so it's high carbon tool steel k 720 as I said it's a really unique steel actually it's very very tough and it sharpens really really well you've got that Scandinavian grind there on the bevel which is standard generally with your bushcraft knife a Scandi grind and holds a really good edge it comes very sharp for very very sharp when you get this in the box you've got the kind of Bohr logo there which I really like that's a really good touch and you've got the TBS logo on the other side the blade itself is four millimeters thick so nice I really that's probably the ideal thickness for a bushcraft blade I would say four mil thick and it's a full tang so it's very very well balanced beautiful blade the length of the blade itself is 110 mil which is again pretty standard with your bushcraft knife and then the handle itself is 120 mil which is slightly probably longer than normal bushcraft knives but for those of you out there with larger hands it's definitely you know it's definitely the knife really that would be ideal suited for people with big hands however I'm not a big person but it's good for me I chose it as well because of the battening orbit awning that you can use it for you can hold it right back here and your hands away from the blade and then you can use that that blade there okay is the fire steel as you can see it's matching Turkish walnut kind of edge handle to it which I think's really nice touch goes really well with the blade fire steel itself is nine point four millimeters thick it's excellent can produce lots and lots of sparks it's excellent with the back of the knife you can produce loads of sparks however I don't I'm going to look after my knife I'm probably not going to use it for um for fire steel work I've got other materials that I can use for that so overall brilliant let's just have a little test out on some wood perhaps maybe feather some sticks and things like that
