Beach Fishing and Cooking Fish over a Fire | TA Outdoors
Description
Graeme catches some fresh fish and cooks them on a spit over a camp fire. He even uses a simple DIY coat-hanger wire for the spit. You can do this with Cod too, but in this video Graeme catches a number of Whiting. Be sure to check that the Whiting are the right size limit! Also, be aware of small stones around a fire on a beach. These stones have moisture in them, when it expands they can sometimes explode. Be aware! Hope you guys enjoy the vid.

welcome to the totally awesome outdoor show I'm gonna try and catch you in sea fish down there with my rods I've really got a couple of rods out there going to be trying to catch either whiting or codling I'm sea fishing good eating fish when I get those fish should I get those fish should I get that fish I'll be trying to cook it over an open fire using these yes go hang up and some strips of wood how's he going to do that first going to catch the fish just for use you people out they don't want to catch fish yourselves on ledgering out there with three hook Paternoster rig you go on the totally awesome fishing show you can get some of the ideas another region we use to catch a fish and it's coming up dusk I probably won't get anything until it gets dark because it's not a sort of spot for catching fish in the daylight if I do catch on that which will bring it out knock it on the head gut it and I'll show you how I'm going to rig up and cook it over the fire the bait I'm using is red worm I've also got some squid I'm going to be tipping the hooks with squid so red worm on the hook first then squid so that's the fishing orientation of you let's fingers crossed we get a fish there thought I looked really stupid with a coat hanger for blocks of wood and a fire that we hope lights anyway as soldier
you
Beach was pretty much deserted which is the way I like it one real I have what's called braid line which gives you a really good bite indication and on the other real I had just regular nylon monofilament which is cheaper as a little bit of stretch doesn't give you quite such good bite acacia but hopefully I'll pick up some bites as that Sun started to drop it's a question where sea fishing you've just got to wait you never know what's out there and of course one of the things that you have to have first is the fish look what do you need before the fish with a lot of patience I feel when it's dark I'm going to get something and I've got flood light from the camera as well 30 minutes of vital recognize we can see there we go people how do you can take too long just as a light starting to go got some whitey but alas these are undersized very slightly but most countries possibly don't have any sizing as at all you know depending which country you go to a lot of of countries will have size limits of different species so just check out your size limits first and just pick the ones they're the right size for easy so nice pair of whitey but I want something a bit bigger I'm hungry what can I get really done I think it's gonna be more of these guys out there well as we thought guys darkness is coming doesn't look at the camera still pretty good but I've got a floodlights well this one's nearly a keeper this one on this side that's nearly edible but I'm gonna throw them back on the keep going till I get two really nice ones I can show you I'm going to cook them up I'm writing a really good eating especially when you get them fresh that's it really that's the only way to eat any fish just take what you want put everything else back yeah this one's nearly a keeper I'm probably gonna rue the moment I put this one back there he is there you go all you get guys get you guys a bigger one get these back and get ones out again because again bites on every single road I feel gonna get some big enough to cook up
there we go the old fat getting bit figure that's not a keeper that one certainly on the borderline they're going to check these other ones first and then get the fire lit take a while for those embers to burn down and that's ready for cooking only need a couple put the other fish back really killing everything
there we go another two there I've got one that's cook able P besides going to let these guys go about trying it too if I can if not we're going to go with the one I've got and incidentally these beads here I like floating B to keep the bait off the bottom they've been really good up as notice tonight I'm going to have 15 20 y2 quite a lot on that bead get these back and see if we can't catch that one more let's all starting to tape hoping he's going to burn through there just scooped out a fire pit and I can put a groove here so the wind actually comes up underneath the fire but of course it's a long way from cooking all this is just smoke and just start to light I want it burnt through and I want it on embers before I can start to cook the fish which leaves me with something else to do and let's check the fishing rods again
okay well I'm waiting for the embers to burn down to a nice low what I'm going to do again take a coat hanger make it a wire one not plastic coated one's got to be just plain wire got a pop it like that straight link of it out then the king parrot measure roughly what you think the width of the fire is going to be then I'm going to come down like this
I don't like that you see the angle company guess where he's going to be straight they're gonna snip there take the wire home with you don't you again while goes a couple of bits flat like this I cut you see two notches in there alright when that first a gem one yes one in there like that I'm going to put whiting on the other spit like this across the fire and then I can gradually rotate it as one of the fish doesn't a critical matter of minutes when it's not the heat there but what I will do is I'll put throughout the middle there a little kink because otherwise when you push it into the body of the fish if you have just straight wire
I'm not a little holding lots there when you go to rotate it it's just going to keep spinning
so that little not share should just go in then I'm gonna let them burn down now a lot more to bits here of a stake for prom run to it once they'll get another big fish I will do if not going to run with that one just to show you it's not disappointed on winter by having a fire like this is people a bit of comfort rock all wood has no nails in it anyway by the way I think gonna have to stop fishing on catching them yes three at a time now so I'm going to show you next I'm going to use that bigwigs doing pretty much of a stand I only got the one big whiting there's the others as you can see them I'll get these guys back and then I'll show you how I'm going to put the other big ones on a spit
okay I got more whitening down there on a nice clean slab just take the guts out to show you and then over here I've got my plate which is going to be warm a nice thick piece of slate there I've got to dry that out and that'll be my plate to eat off and the bottom should be on the right hand side away from the fire should be cool enough to hold obviously stones do get hot and do retain the heat but that should be my plate now what do I do is this I'm just going to knit the tail off of the wrist of the tail just say it pop it through one twist now for the seagulls and then just here it'll whitey its event very short distance between the mouth and the vent they're just going to split that open this
remove those guts on there sometimes you can actually see what the region lava Tommy just crap now some people cooking with the guts in it whole bit they say adds more flavor but I don't see anything in there to tell me what you'd be feeding on or nobody did baby boy no in there tell me I think personally and quite humbly coming within determined to get it out show you the boy is in 3d to subscribe there is something those oh it's a baby crab little baby piece of crap so he'd be feeding on crab I'm going to give this a rich well I think what these are skewer it for us through here I'm going to go through the middle of the body like this with my coat hanger don't go if your hand along the back of the spine you have to get feeling going through the back of the spine it could just keep altering the direction of it it's not biking just want it in that my try and push that bend in its mouth there right that's now in the middle of this body so when I rotate it it doesn't keep spinning I'll give this one a wash and then when that burns down is ready to the fire okay it's turned down I see now just gonna make it though somewhat bird fish is gonna go across about here still going to push in this piece of wood laid out on the hot plate
this do the Thunder this ready to see pretty well level does a little overheat on the camera very hot so that she'll be cooking nicely just keep an eye on it give it a minute or so and then you see I've got my little handle here in a minute I'll just start rotating that on the spin
sometimes Ivan can even use my plate here I didn't want to slip in and put stones Argos eyes like this just to hold it in position let's leading cook from the back first here we go as well cooked so we get my plate here there's our lovely award the slide that metal bar out the coat hanger you can use again wash it use it again I'll put it on the plate and you can tell it's nice and crisp the skin is crispy up nicely there well that was exploding stone and we took my ear off I should return to the confines of my little safe pity and enjoy this before the fire explodes on me again cuz you want for more lovely one plate fish cooked to perfection let's just have a look at it oh just show you guys the skin is falling to bits because like this you can eat the screen if you don't skin you can eat the skin as well yeah some of that stone is hot don't be tested my penknife bushcrafting to inter on blunt penknife and you can see it just absolutely flaking up and that's cooking it and then coat hanger since nature I'm not done with it yet we think a nice cold chilled hardenable go down wrong with this not on a wild english windswept beach if you're in survival mode I'm going to be boiling up a bit of water I brought with me putting them there I go for some tomato soup I'll are powdered surviving star this whole workout get some chicks down as well
another tip guys so I've defeated through the stone it get really cold and you're off fishing of the winter don't forget if you put stones around a fire on top even out with big stones out your slate around the fire they will retain the heat love hot noodles for a long time and if you put them around you it's about too hot if you're not too hot put them right next to you if they're you know to Hobbs you keep them around and still radiate out be helped I've got this on my lap magalie when they're still growing out of it then uphold long good without bones I'll tell you up on city of every fish every wanted I'm sitting on the stone I'm not joking twenty minutes late before that and I'm twelve or fourteen right in there the soup boil the stone is part movie I getting to see on as one stone and there we go
finish off nobody Sharda not what they should bleed
Oh see how hot you'll find out what I have to go to the ane to have my tonsils reinserted
go again seems really hot let's watch an eternity horse man I certainly have the winds picking up the stories coming we're going to have this one last class enjoy the outdoors
