Bushcraft & Fishing - Catch and Cook, Fillet, Clean Fish at The Bushcraft Shelter
Description
Bushcraft & Fishing - Catch and Cook, Fillet and Clean Fish at The Bushcraft Camp. We do a catch and cook on the campfire and show you how to fillet and clean a fish for cooking. We also go through the fish recipe that we used. After the Bushcraft Camp, we show you the Fishing trip we had early that day where we caught the Trout fresh. We did some Fly Fishing, and talked through how to fly fish, as well as what flies to use for trout fishing. Towards the end of the day, we walk through the woods to setup a trail camera and try and capture the animal that has been digging up tree roots around the pine trees in the forest. The Fishing was filmed at Frensham Trout Fishery: https://www.fishcountryleisure.com/

Oh a swarm still he coming up that beautiful an old lorry will Oh BAM well yeah cheers mate hey what a feast yeah this one it's gotta be we reckon the best meal we've probably done the Internet yeah the best catch and cook guys and don't worry we will be getting to the catch part in a minute yeah we're getting to the eating part first what's the sauce we've got in the corner though it's a seafood sauce so the wife gave me and said that will perk it up but we got butter we got white wine a Chardonnay in there and this is a fresh-caught fish is called hours ago oh that fish is really good guys this is gourmet bushcraft yeah asparagus bro potatoes lovely beautiful I just falls apart thing is with the trout like this as fresh as this yeah this one's been feeding totally on insects for some time so it's been on a natural diet and when Mike was finishing it we noticed the meat was much better color yeah different color different color much better much sort of healthy-looking color because you can get them quite oily yeah but this one is just something else that white wine sauce as well let's make a difference and butter we're cooking butter as well Wow I said that's the best catch I think it's best for me down here now out of the two if you notice we did a few asparagus tips in the boiling water with the potatoes and some in with the butter put a bit less water in well which one would you say the best just about to try the boiled ones they're crisper because they're not cooked as much I think it is a bit more flavor they I like the fried one I must admit yeah I do as well but it's probably because of the butter Oh guys if only the camera did smell so you could smell and touch smell and taste you could enjoy this as much as we are so because this is a catch and cook episode as standard with TA outdoors we tend to do with these budget crafts and fishing episodes we tend to do the bushcraft e4i lighting and you know it's sort of preparing bit first and then we go into the catch so you're about to watch some footage of this fishing set this fishing session that we did today this is fresh today this fish yeah hours a day so enjoy the footage when you watch it join us back here at the camp [Music]

I'm fish on he's never be steep it might be one of those brownies you know that I think it's a brownie it is a nice brownie guys I'm through eight fish as you can see hopefully I can't tell you whether it's a brown trout or a rainbow trout I reckon it's a brown they know he's a rainbow do you reckon oh yeah either way we've had it's been tough hasn't it that ready my conditions right it's warming up now with springtime there is insect activity you've seen the first mayfly of the year haven't you don't think so as first one I've seen this year and let's search fly everywhere and things like that I got this on a figure of eight retrieve which is really slow retrieve but slow but consistent retreat which I actually had a bump on earlier bit just sort of rise that you might be right down it might be a rainbow it's Mike's rainbow look there is a small fly just in the corner they just nipped in it we just recently changed flyer I thought the other flyer is sinking too much there's that Vermillion cheek on the gill cover and there's the rainbow down the lateral line tells us it is indeed a rainbow trail and that believe me folks is the perfect size for the camp that's a real good eating size fill its Cutlass I don't know how we're gonna do it we're gonna dispatch it thing you look for catch another one so just had that fish and we're just sitting down now to have a little break and just to give you guys a couple of tips
mostly beginners tips if you want to learn more about fishing head on over to Dutch Channel ta fishing but weekly fishing videos we've also got a trout fishing playlist on there and fly fishing specific by playlist on the channel which goes into depth about fly fishing for beginners how to fly cast and everything like that even some fly tying tutorials as well but just post let you know the gear that we're using this is what seven eight seven eight weight
no probably 787-8 weight rods same with the line yeah seven eight weight weight forward there would be weight forward is easy for carting weight your board yeah weight forward basically means is that the diameter is thicker towards the front of the line is yes so it's gonna it's gonna punch your fly out better it makes it easier for casting and the color doesn't really matter as such to be honest there's you'll no non leader exactly a mono mono leader well these are about nine feet this is why you can't see on the camera really that's so the trout don't see it as well this is like standard fishing line at the end of the line all the fly line is is get a weight the weight device really to get your fly out there cuz if you just did it with mono only the fly is gonna go nowhere just be like a piece of fluff but by having this heavy line that's what gets your fly out into the water it's got weight to it you see different grades you know they're rated in different grades which is basically different weight it's like using different yeah fishing weights if you like on a fly line so the tip I'm gonna give you guys is what I caught that trout on the type of retrieved because when you're fly-fishing you need to experiment with the speed of your retrieve a lot of their time you're retrieving like this just pulling and stripping the line down fast tweaks and your fly is doing that but for that fish that I just caught I was doing what's called a figure of eight and that's a constant retreat so a figure of eight is doing that with my hands collecting the line and that fly is just constantly moving slowly in the water natural yeah like a natural fly would as there's always natural flows in Eddie's in in in still water as well so that fly was just moving slowly and that's what switched that trout on so I've only got a fairly small fly box here and what you do is you keep this little box with you in the pocket and it's got foam in there and it just puts the hook in you know you just Nick the hook in so they're basically they're easy to get out and of course like all tackle boxes and all far too many flies is a huge range of flies in there all of which have a different job
the main job is to catch anglers they don't kiss trout they catch Angus they start in sizes I'll show you but this one will come under the category of what we called a lure so the hook is that length which i think is a size 10 freshwater hook but you can see the dressing behind it there's at least the same length as a hook so quite a long fly but when it's in the water all this goes down the sparkle catches the trout's eye in the sunlight and this looks like a fish's tail if you move along as a similar one this has what's called a tungsten bead head to it to give it some weight and it's got what appears to be rubber lakes don't ask me what it's supposed to represent I don't know on that one all all flies can be tied yourself as well as a huge industry of fly tying or in I would call the large category is a heavily weighted fly through in deeper water this has a tungsten head in orange but it also has under whipping here along there probably of wire in contrast you can use real natural imitation of insects and these are what they call a sparsely dressed fly means hardly any dressing on that one believe me trout will still take it but you gotta fish it a lot slower this one has a piece of plastic across its back to give it a bit of Sheen it's supposed to imitate a sort of shell back of a small freshwater shrimp and here is one that could be an emerging fly it's got his hackles coming up here just to give it a little bit of buoyancy it will sink slower so there we can fish these a lot slower than the lure the traditional method and most trout fishermen like is dry fly fishing for that you have bigger dresses like this these will be may fly patterns very very old ones these are all collectors onesies and this will be a spent fly if you look carefully at that the wings the wing casings here are flat so the time if I wet there just to give you a bit more contrast there you can see that's like two wings outstretched so in other words that insects has been on the surface of the water laid its eggs for the following year and then died hence the fact the wings are out like that flat and the trout know this they know that's a dead insect flat like that and that's one they come up and take it when you see a ring or circle on the surface that's called dry fly fishing and equally if there's a one of those types of flies that you want to rest them right on the surface you can get one like this may fly on a dry fly box in contrast to this one where I put my nymphs and lures and they want to try key and separately you want to kind of keep them dry so they this is a very old box but these little compartments like that as you can see you could shut them in there individually that way you keep them nice and dry and up here these are sort of ghouls which also keeps all these flies dry from resting on the surface of the water now look here they get sedge and Grenon this is a natural insect and the and the and the trout that Mike caught was on a I fly here a small one that we just changed to which is black so you can see the similarity there and that one is gonna fly away and if he lands on the water
at craps probably going to eat him he toast
well guys I hope you enjoyed that footage
it was a tough fishing session yeah I only just got that trout ready and I could show VG we caught nothing else after that so but I was we were really lucky and it tasted really good
so it shows you just goes to show you've got to make the most of what you catch really and in a survival situation yes we would have cooked up the whole thing eyeballs guts everything you'd avoid it we had a border art made us you and a broth or something like that and just and we would have eaten it all but we're not in a survival situation what we are doing is walking in the woods because I wanted to show dad those those ruts that we found yes he liked down here no but they're up the Chad dad look at the trees yeah now it's been done a while because ponies was have fallen into the hole right right so I was saying oh it's not squirrels no no no way to me it it's a badger although we haven't seen a badger in here for money sure there's loads of them brown deer loon in mind look we don't live here yes but we come here fairly regularly you do anyway there's loads guys if I said this in there fifty there fifty degrees all under the base of the tree digging around here that look at this root it's exposed to root yeah right and it Wow hang on a minute what are they getting do you think oh my gosh my finger screwed you back on I mean look how far that's gone under there something to me I wouldn't be surprised because you've got deciduous forests the other side yeah if there's someone like wild pig or wild boar in here I mean England they have a hunted wild boar it was hunted thing really but but they're very very rare very rare now I think I don't even think they in the south no way there's a squirrel no camp here five years yeah five years four years we have never seen before you talk to a forester didn't you there's water out yeah yeah total forest he doesn't know Izzy doesn't really know what it is so what we've got is a trail cam a trail cam guys we're gonna see what he is we talked to people may wonder that what is that what is that doing is it a wild boar is it a pig yeah I don't know he's a huge badger is it a Wolverine no but we're put this up I don't know where we gonna put it up I think we should go deeper into the wood and a bit that we need to find a game trailer but we don't know a biggie so they're too deep in the woodland we'll look clearly we need to do you think we should put it put it a bit lower down may be compared to the deer it should be deer still but I don't know I think it's a badger or something like that where she was it you guys know about where they get these truffles truffles in the woods are they digging for those no wait come over to this one look at this one over here always the base of every tree so walk I've been in this woodland wait wait can you see the paws or the claws so I've been in this wooden feet easily over ten years I've been coming to this woodland guys even longer than that 15 years I've never seen this in my life so we're in an open Glade area I reckon this would be a good one two three four near the camp over there six seven there's seven trees within 25 feet here I reckon if they come through that deciduous area I don't know I think they can remember us somewhere round about here well facing the camp I would face the open area dad face the open yeah face the blade because they're gonna naturally walk through this area if we face this way no it's too tense they're not gonna walk through here they're gonna walk through this glade I reckon all this opening whatever you wanna go see what it is what about this tree that you're on facing in there yeah so I'm gonna place it here about hip pocket height because by tonight should we go a bit higher dad it's quite exciting guys I know I like it when he pushes game come out yeah it's good it's just like fishing you know you just don't know what you're gonna find you don't know what you're gonna get alright wink is a sense of the unknown so we've used this for we've been using these for a long time guys this is new to the channel this is not new to the channel if you want to go back to our old videos we've captured badger monster fallow deer roe deer yeah good stuff rabbit squirrel was the law pretty much
Oh foxes as well we've caught almost every small mammal that you can get in the UK on this camera so politicians yeah they hide too much right that's pretty tight he'll do that's gonna hold say let's see what the anglers like fit on test mode and then you might be in the way dad I think he's probably gonna get a cameraman yeah you want a bit of gray on those yeah yeah that's the trail that is the trail is that the way you think they're gonna come yeah they're gonna come up there I think we're ready ready yep then we've got what 10 seconds seconds
move now yeah we just beat seven six okay following so it's set the trail camera up I'm probably going to leave it there for two to three weeks maybe even a month that obviously depends on the batteries I have to come and check the batteries every now and then but it'd just be interesting to see what's about and hopefully we can capture whatever this beast is but thanks so much watching guys don't forget if you want to go fishing and learn about fishing check dad's tan multi a fishing weekly fishing videos on there very similar to what we did today fishing wise and yet follow me on instagram as well if you're on there ta outdoor official subscribe button hit the subscribe button and the belt hit the bell tick the bell so you can get all notifications thanks so much for watching this video guys we will see you again on another catch and cook video really soon
