Off Grid Pallet Wood Homestead Build - Pallet Wood Projects at The Cabin

Description

We head back to the Off Grid Pallet Wood Cabin to continue building more pallet wood projects for the Wilderness Homestead. In this episode of the pallet wood cabin build, we dismantle the Bushcraft wall that we weaved with sticks, and in place we expand the diy pallet wood picket fence that we built in a previous episode. This now completes the area of the vegetable garden and raised vegetable bed and polytunnel. The front porch of the cabin already has a bench, but we decided to design and build another chair there, but this one with a more decorative look. We put this one together with screws for more stability. Then, using some hand tools, we started work on building a flower trough for the flowers at the front porch. These pots will hold flowers that we will plant in a couple of weeks as the long winter has made it difficult to plant vegetables and flowers. Now that spring is in full flow, we will begin to plant some veg in the polytunnel. There is also an abundance of wild edibles in the surrounding forest. After we had finished the building projects, we fired up the wood stove and cooked up some bacon and eggs and put these in some fresh bread for a sandwich. We then finished off the episode with Theory Time, with Dad talking about the negative effect that modern-day mobile phones are having on society and the damage it is causing. Thanks for joining us on the adventure - Mike

previously and the pallet wood cabin build we got back to work with hammer and saw and started to create a small bin for general waste at the site the second project involves some slightly thicker pieces of pallet wood which we put together to form a box this box was to be our compost bin although we realized it is a little on the small side

we then gathered some ash from the wood stove and put this in the compost bin using a sieve to filter any large pieces of charcoal and wood on this particular trip my dog Jack's joined us but because there is a large badger set nearby I needed to keep him leashed so that he would not chase after them and get stuck down a badger hole this can be a common thing for the Jack Russell Terrier breed badgers are notoriously aggressive if cornered the final project involved building a table for the washing area at the back of the cabin after a hard day's work we rewarded ourselves by cooking up a fresh omelet over the campfire join us now for episode 12 where we build more items with pallet wood before our big project which will be coming up on the channel soon

well those welcome to ta outdoors and pallet wood cabin I think is episode 12 must be episode 12 one of many what we've got more palpable projects obviously today we put together this chair which dad designed he did quite a neat little design here obviously at home this was done with her jigsaw at home you can do that with Mike's Barco saw but out here okay it would take forever so then just trim that out there the rest we just saw straight pallet wood we just do down here on the on the horse on the sawhorse yeah or just out on the log chopping block nice see it's a second seat that we've got the port because we've already got a more of a bench over this side so it just means now that spring and summer is coming we can actually sit outside and you know enjoy the good weather and the nature that's surrounding us and talk yeah I mean what I did think of this year when I was first designed in it I was driving along when I saw a messy lorry wheel arch like this you know mud guard

I don't where's a lot of traffic if I turned around and got that right turn it upside down that way saw cut it through the middle put it underneath here could I made a rocking chair oh we've also got some product drops because now it's coming out of spring in the UK that we're that awful winter my Jesus brings up much better at the moment everybody's holding back on planting so we're all prepped up here we've got a little bit of shape on the back there again I just thought makes a bit of a pattern and we're gonna put some flowers in here so it's just an entrance basically to the cabin you know it just makes it look a little bit more homely didn't it so whatever flowers what type of flowers do you like you guys in your god I don't know petunias because we've got shade I'm wit petunias I quite like geraniums but they're fairly expensive I'll tell you what is good here any flower that the deer and rabbits are gonna weigh you know this is an experiment we have no idea informally we could put plants in here come back the next day and there's nothing okay so over the back here what we've done is fill that gap out with bitter extra picket fence made from pallet wood there we've taken the just why the branches that we put there before just a line it just to tidy up a little bit more we got the compost there we got to make sure it's going to put in there from there we're gonna start putting the egg how many people our oldest of four eggshells don't throw away calcium I guess I may put them in the compost but we have actually planted over in a little pony time polytunnel yet because it's been so cold but it will come we'll try to get some stuff in there flowers I think could be in the next week when they might I think so yeah so we do have some a couple more ideas really palette with project wise of what we're gonna do here and there well it's like a pallet wood homestead really isn't it it's wrong we're not yeah we're not it just wants a question or two we're not living here guys plan to live here we're just showing what we're doing is showing what can be done with pallet wood but nothing that we personally every we've reclaimed it recycled it for free because we've got permission from various supermarkets industrial estates we've made sure it's the right pallets and it's just it's what would be is you're trying to save money really is showing what you can do forth with stuff for free and soft let's cheap like recycling the nails and everything like that with you I know it takes time but it's just you know hopefully it inspires some of you guys to get out there and build stuff and do stuff and they need to watch from the start really there's people say we were recently guys at all you know you've got the roof what we all we know that we said it in a previous video the roof should run that way yeah we if you're looking for questions on land what nation and everything that we took we talked about we told it but all about all the questions we've done in a video I'll pop a link in the playlist up somewhere up here to the pilot cabin playlist and you know you can work your way through that and the episodes will play in order of when we've uploaded them so you just click the playlist press play and then all the episodes will play it in that order starting right from the very beginning when we were clearing the site here getting it built hard to believe how far we've come crazy actually yeah you know just most exact we don't we're not somebody doing this every day of the week you don't mean we can't come here every now and then cuz I now make blueish cough films as well that's how I make fishing films we do other stuff so we're not doing just the pallet and stuff there's a lot of other things that are going on behind the scenes you know that you guys obviously don't know about what we're doing so we could if we'd stayed - all the time we could be with town we can finish line's - it really could but you know the other day we just try to keep it very small-scale one man cabin yeah one man one man little tiny cabin with a stove stove couple of items yeah this toes doing really well again 15% off guys if you're a nice Dave use the Cote a outdoors on their website they ship globally check them out pop a link in the description below now I just sat on something yep and I'm pretty glad there's a sheath on it what is this that I don't know it's one I've collected over the years I'm assuming I'm guessing you guys out there would know the experts is that North African or is it an Indian it looks Indian to me it's got like the these these little hangs up here the patterning it almost looks like it's one it's one for Alex knew and I live you're out there if you love your show Alec everybody watch Alex sure yeah is good it is good hey Alec hey wait this no you know he can try and make mother he's gonna make it curves and he's gonna make that sheath but what fascinates me is the blade and then the fact that's definitely not legal okay so where did you procure this blade that I pulled your ocean I think yes very thirty or forty years ago and I was just buying stuff like you do years ago but what I can't understand is what I can't understand is guys just up here do they call this a hill Michael know that yeah what I thought so yeah that looks like brass that's obviously not a silver would be too soft on Jesse it's very intricate got an intricate design across there all the way down to here okay I'm gonna throw it into the camera lens l the curve it's got almost looks regal looks like you should belong to royalty with that does anybody out there in I don't know Indian countries Asian countries African car did you recognize that does that mean anything to you here's the handle coming in and again we'll show you in closer lovely wood now to me that looks like mahogany because I used to have furniture shops nice and dark

nice nice piece of mahogany maybe it's not

Stane tapers he's certainly been warned hopefully not on people when used there's the battle bit nothing listen if I just turn it around there you see in the lie it's got two different metal says like I say a copper there and then it merges into this wherever this metal is I don't know and it curves all the way around there I know I saw pressed in there but listen this is the weird bit take it out the sheath and how do they make a sheath this curve does this see so there's the blade I can't see anything

what is weird it split this blunt well listen the band of - is a weapon yes I would say the sharpness is here along that edge there that's the sharp edge there I've tried I'm gonna go sharpening it it took ages it must be very very hard steel but listen what happens here it goes Square and thick across there all the way up there there's not there never was intense it so look I've got my finger on it which you should never do with a noise ground I think he's made like that I think he's made like that and then when that break occurs - the sharp blade look at the not sure comes up into here and then come back across the top and then there's another notch coming up in here now these two notches have got to be there for a reason to draw up a lot out I don't know maybe as it's a weapon and a dagger but what's the principle does this part make the cut and this is just the ripping ripping inside I don't know is it sharp the other side the reverse side this side is no matter what there's tapers tape it across but there is a patterning there or I believe he said a cobra and let's put the candle yeah I see it rip the candle and it it's like a snake in there so if it if it's a cobra you've got to be guided by where do they get cobras India the Middle East the Middle East that's what it smacks off to me so you know if experts out there you got something to go on there I have no idea about it donkey's years let us know I won't be filling in the fish with it but it's quite an interesting shape bleh it's quite light you know it's very not very like a quite a long blade and obviously a nice made steel it's very seen to be very hard to deal when I tried sharpening that front end but maybe you guys either a name to it is

name two that somebody might recognize it well it's that time of the episode for theory time which we haven't done in a few weeks I know I've been a while and for those that don't know theory time myself for dad usually come up with a theory

sometimes wacky sometimes quite serious and we asking you guys your opinions on it you give us your opinions in the comment section below and it's just a great way of us being able to interact with you and just to find out some crazy wacky theories out there so are so crazy wacky no they're not so what what's the theory for today I've been saving this one for a long time I really have been saving up if Mike doesn't know what it's about

no I don't know do it's been cooking around in my brain for a long there's a lot like it's a lot got too much time on my hands going it concerns these awful creatures the phone the mobile phones now then years ago where mobile phones first came out some of you I'm not old enough to remember an old dial-up phone with a circle I remember those that were younger you have one in the house but it's more electric sell them all around but I can always remember when they first came out there was a double-page spread in national papers over here and it was a picture of a human skull and they were saying about the waves transmitted by the mobile phone heating up the brain now I got to thinking about this and it Bob it bothered me a bit so what would I do is I just want to show you but Mike doesn't notice I've got to go outside they're gonna be a little bit of noise I'm gonna throw if I can go and get my brain out so I can explain it better I got no idea what he's doing [Applause]

okay I've got it what is this we come in people bit bruised I haven't got long so obviously taking my brain out it's okay it's okay I'm running on auxiliary power because I've got a spare battery put up oh no I won't take it out take it it's just a spare batteries my backup battery anyway got my brain out there is an unrealistic size of your brain dad big piccola yeah is it it's a human brain okay there now what I wanna talk about is this so the human brain is broken up as many of you know into different zones or quite clear what or cauliflower it's a brain back he's gonna run out soon my theory is this do you out there trust really big corporations of what they feed you do you really trust some of the research information that comes out I personally don't but I'm a bit long in the tooth you know to go for gullible stuff so my theory might be this there's a terrible disease that's coming about really it's been around a long time we're going to call it outside us now you must have all heard about it it could be an older people it's not great but it seems to be on the increase if it said any experts on the outside this disease is a shocker so I'm not really making a mockery of this I'm using this as an illustration to something that might bear some fruit here's the human brain my concern was when I saw this double-page spread and it was heating up here on the side of the brain there let's assume and I don't know you experts out right now they might know which side of the brain gets affected by Alzheimer's which is the outsider area okay now I'm going to suggest that maybe maybe mobile phones the use of here by my brain is causing early Alzheimer's because it seems to be getting earlier and earlier than people I know they say well generations are getting older but it seems to balance out the same sort of time as when the mobile phones came in now you think what a silly old beep fair enough I agree with you totally no it's only I would say to this batteries I would say to you this that phone was here right that was in the picture is in the national press the phone was there the signals are there now we had the phones previously with an area knowledge all you guys remember an x-ray on my hairy two rollers since the old ones on there please do use one so you got the aerial there right then they decided to

put the Ariel inside who was that just an aesthetic value or is that because they realized the signal from the Ariel actually was heating the brain up and they're not gonna sell too many mobile phones are they if everybody knows what's going on so is anybody out there no in mobile phone land about any research into this the reason beam we're going to say is this they had the area which they then put integral inside the mobile phone did they do that it's just an aesthetic value to make the phone look nice

or was it because they wanted to reduce a signal going through your brain fine you think that's also caught on hang on they then moved into I'm gonna call it speaker phones magazine so you can turn out speaker yes why would you want to talk the now speak if I'm talking Mike on the phone I got it here that's fine I can hear I can ask me for hands-free driving I think they did well was it or was it because they wanted you to get the phone away from your head that's what I talked about so my argument or theory might be has anybody out they ever done any research on how many people without cybers are right-handed or left-handed phone users does that have any bearing on outsiders let us know what you think hope it's a medical people that watch a show and you're I mean it might it might provide some fruit some sauce some gravy for the medical profession to be able to finally find out what this out song is about I think is it mobile phones all I have got to get this brain back in my head because my battery is a bit painful think about it guys let us know you thought about that do you think that mobile phone signals are actually damaging parts of the human brain danger battery low do you let us know your thoughts on that theory pop your comments put any comments or opinions you got put in the comment section below and thanks very much for watching this episode of the of the palet homestead bills we've got more product projects coming and again if you guys have any other suggestions as what you'd like to see us try and make pop them in the comment section below thanks so much for watching guys so you can be seen you
