Bushcraft & Fishing - Catch and Cook Fresh Fish on the Grill at The Bushcraft Camp

Description

I took my Dad to The Bushcraft Camp where we do a catch and cook over the campfire. We decided to grill the Mackerel that dad caught fresh the day before when sea fishing with his friend Wayne. When we first got to the Camp we noticed some Deer, so I went up to the Hunting Tower and we got some incredible footage of two Deer. Hope you enjoy it - Mike.

here we go this is as precious you could want to get Mac all cooked over the fire and that's much lovely rich oily hmm you can see what fishermen say the best fish you can eat is a fresh mackerel once I might well you're going to say that I'm going to have some you'd be filming I'm going to have some that is amazing that's what 12 hours old that's 16 18 hours old regim was like cooked on the beach over tempura yeah guys while that is eating that rats are going to play you a clip of dad's friend Wayne who caught this Mack who didn't eat it cause it and he goes through how to prepare it it's just nice to have someone different not just our ugly faces on it all the time

so yeah go and enjoy it Wayne's going to teach a little bit about how to fill it really well he is a fish he is yeah proper fish cooked been doing it for years so enjoy this footage and then we'll come back to camp and we'll just chat some rubbish we look at the skeleton because I love eating it all yeah there we go springs of mackerel coming in Tangled mackerel that's one of our prime bait fish and eating fish a butts on their way oh yeah there we go we're out again and we must find a weather window beautiful day and we found some mackerel which are a rare commodities nowadays we're going to show you is how to prep one for a campfire and possibly you could use the same preparation for a barbecue these are going to go on a lovely campfire on a stainless grill will show how it's done there we've got beautiful mackerel very nice size and what I suggest you do with a macron of this size is keep them whole if you can so first thing knife in the vent there don't go too deep so just slit them up there Oh dot we're way past these thins there and all that comes out so you want to get all of that stuff out there normal to keep this for the sharp attractant

as we're already drifting you go over the side you want to take all that out and basically clean everything out all the tract all the entrails the lot needs to come out so you'll go right down to his vent where we put the slit in right up to the very top there and remove the lock and the best thinking we can do water out at sea give them a nice dunk in this lovely clean sea water there we go you've cleaned in and we've washed in beautiful map you can see how lovely and shiny is look at how bright the eyes are should be snow just been caught mackerel need to be treated very very carefully so keep them cool don't leave them out in the Sun they spoil very very quickly so we've got a nice large box here and we're going to put in strain there once we've poked in now prep work this is picked to orphans basically going literally close to the pectoral fin and just take his head clean off okay they'll go on the grubby sack same with the tail quite close to the root put it an inch and then straight through right now that is ready the camp fire now lambs when you cook a fish hole like this with the bones on it stays really really moist lovely full of oil perfect really you can fill that cavity if you wanted with a bit of salt the sea salt maybe a bay leaf or two lemon something maybe like that and then literally all you want to do you can score the skin if you like I prefer not to

and literally you just lay that on your campfire probably a fish of that size put a bit depth to in there so depending on the heat of the fire and warm light you want to give it probably six seven minutes on each side a nice fresh piece of fish like that you can do that rule nothing wrong with sushi and they'll eat that raw I mean all right what we were it potentially harm is a parasite or two in it and I'm not into sushi personally I don't want raw I don't want it serve each you know cooked with the lemon juice or or such is not losing my taste I like to cook it you cook it piece of mackerel on a campfire there's not a lot of finer fish to eat and we've got some lemon juice on here we didn't have fresh lemon so we use the older actual lemon juice in the bottle oh wow that that is incredible it's a rice with it maybe some of us yeah yeah that we're just eating like cavemen at the moment yeah but who cares mmm that is brilliant

hmm I think I'm gonna have the rest is that well we've got the other side as well well that is that is fresh mmm now some of you fishermen out there how did they catch those mackerel we use these they called mackerel feathers you generally purchase them you spring up for string of six these are I think I got what three seas I probably got about eight on there and these were tied by a 90 year old man at that time I met him a few years Frank finicum an ex commercial fisherman and he called mako sharks he call I can't tell you we didn't catch anything legend a legend and the second world war veteran for you all guys out there they'd already left proper proper war veteran if you do want to go see something else about Frank he's a real Cornishmen and you know some military guys might be interested in these stories go to what the show more yeah in the video description below under underneath what says show more there's a link to about Frank really I didn't interview Frank and that was about second world war experience he had and he's still tities for me amazing Anna at 90 and how good are they are they cook us again about 100 mackerel yesterday between us yeah yeah good I doubt that you saw Mike using this blowing stick to make the flames go but what I want to know theory telling guys exactly what are these yes right there are pair of bellows we know that who invented them which nationality a wood panel here I will panel there oh I guess this is a part that sucks the air in when you pull them apart and this is I guess animal hide tacked all around here and a nozzle the same as a blow stick is compressing their air no exactly the same I want to know who invented them how old they are do they work you bet your life they work and another thing how old are they does anybody out there know not how old these are but how old is the invention or fellows we know they they use like this to really really get a blacksmith's forge hot incredibly hot and possibly I think they came with invention of Steel iron or to force air they realize they have to force air oxygen into that fire to get it really hot to melt steel so is it in this sort of Iron Age of the bellows came about I'm just curious because it's really basic it's wood it's animal hide ie leather but it still works that's animal leather and wood way before the Iron Age whose also put them together and now unfortunately I'm extremely hot and my camera is about to come smelting about to combust and of course guys I know you can't take these bush classes is much easier in our base camp to leave these here we could leave that there as well the one thing it doesn't do it doesn't get you dizzy you
