Description

hey guys hook Jack's in the background back here at the new Bush crop camp and just for a bit of chill time really with Jack's haven't really breakfast his first time here this is gone is it nice there yeah it's his first time here I'll put up a talk just because it was really sunny and hot earlier speak summertime pretty much at the moment it's really really warm temperatures here in the UK and I didn't want to kind of overheat so although it's gone all shading on which is typical but yeah I put that up anyway got the fire going I've got a cup of coffee and had a bit of bacon had some had a bacon sandwich which is lovely on my cheap little camping grill over there but yeah today I'm just going to make some improvements to the camp dad's not with me at the moment but going to make some improvements probably to the walls the perimeter walls we've got big bigger plans for the main shelter but that's going to take a while yet so it's mostly just setting out the perimeter of this Hey
come here hey Jack are you mad are you mad wicked him Jag's he's so naughty yeah I've had to leave him up guys because Jack Russell terrier he's a Jack Russell terrier and you know typically their breed is very inquisitive they are notoriously hard to Train he's doing away at the moment with his training but they are notoriously hard to train they've got oversized adrenal glands which means they're generally you know when when they see something the adrenaline kicks in when they see anything scuttling or running you know no matter how well they're trained they are they do tend to to want to go and get it which is what I love about them because they're such good characters I mean that he's digging now he's just ripping up the the forest floor there but that's what I love about them we've had them and we've had that breed in our family well we had a previous dog dads had about three Jack Russells we loved them really longevity-wise their quote they litter quite a good age I'd say average into the teens early teens maybe 13 14 years so getting a lot of questions lately about this folding grill that I have spouts I want to say 17 centimeters long maybe 9 10 inches long or something like that I don't know the food I'm but it's great because you can either cook it flat with two logs either side well underneath like that so you can have it as a flat grill or you can fold the legs under and it's it's it's it's your food up slightly so you can cook it for longer so the grill itself is literally I think I paid $8.99 on Amazon for it I'll pop a link in the video description for you guys and I spoke to my buddy Tim at Blue Angelica bushcraft Tim makes some incredible handmade like oil skin pouches and canvas pouches he's made me some fantastic stuff in the past he made me Josh's mat which he saw earlier but I bring out with me so you can sit down when he's chewing things and stuff like that he made me my Debra Billy kin which is the Sami style or skin pouch which I put my Billy cannon he's made some incredible stuff anyway I said to Tim I've got this grill I'd really like a cover for it really because it's full of grease arty have used it and I you know you put it your backpack you get grease everywhere so I send this to Tim and no word of a lie within about two days it was back at my house he sends it back through the place and he'd custom made me this pouch for it which is an oilskin pouch it's like wax canvas it's unbelievably well stitched this double stitch from the looks of it he's got rivets here they'll catch his pop catches there it's just awesome there's the sort of brown light brown interior to it and he's kind of reinforced it with some rivets on the side there because obviously these bits can be quite sharp but because I sent him the grill it's basically an exact fit what he sent
so slots in like that pop pop and then that slit shots in the back of my backpack and keeps everything rigid when I'm when I'm carrying my gear on my back really handy stops everything getting greasy please do checked hims website out he may he can custom do stuff for you guys as well if you've got little bits that you'd like maybe like a canteen or something like that he does all custom orders but yeah just check out his website doesn't really really awesome stuff especially for things like Billy cans and just general oil skin and Sami style pouches so I say thank you very much Tim for that and hope for you guys if you get these camping grills yeah maybe run it through Tim and see if you want to get one made he's got the dimensions now
so you can make them for you but yeah it's an awesome piece of kit it's really really cheap the grill itself so the coffee's gone down now time to crack on with some bushcraft [Music]
okay so the wall is I'd say that's pretty much finished I comedy we bothered to do too much more to it Jackson used to enjoy he's pretty shafted over there chewing up half the sticks that I just laid I just weaved them in and out nice and simple most in fact pretty much all of that is dead wood there's still so many dead saplings around here because it's so crowded with trees but it's all birch I'd say it's all silver birch or birch saplings so that's kind of our first wall that Doug started negative 8 Bedi hope any Haley was the job Thursday that's our first full started I think next time I come to camp that's already done the table and the tarp area there the next time I'll probably finish this wall it goes up to the entrance over here and then there's a few more walls if I just show you behind me little one there bigger one here this is the one of the main was although don't really need a wall there because we've got really den Rijn bush behind it but obviously the big tarp shelter is there so for those that in need this is this is camp where I'm at now that's the wall I just finished the top is temporary it for the moment I just bring it when I come in case it rains and also to protect doggy from the Sun when it's too hot but that's where we're going to aim to me aim to put the first sorry the primary shelter the main shelter down here we've got fire pit city little communal fire pit area dad found some of those logs and we're just using those as seats basically and an area to store your pots and pans there's also the fire pit which is surrounded by rocks also lined with a steel plate underneath and yeah this camp entrance to the campus just they're behind us little arch which we need to finish but the next time I'm going to be here is look at him cut what is look how well say is oh look at the Dolby yeah my retail time buddy yeah buddy well whoa whoa whoa whoa you gotta say ah
licky tag all right all right all right get over numbers get end over done with yep all right oh man you love the Knicks hmm ah in the face so next time I I'm at camp guys oh boy another dog with me but I will bring my dad would meet and hopefully we'll get a lot more work done with two of us you ready to get home buddy you ready to go
you
one of great things about keeping your tarp in a stuff sack like this one is that generally they come with a clip at the top and if you've got no room in your backpack you can just slide the clip through your belt loop and then clip your top on like that and then you can walk out the camp just to top clip to your side just handy if you've got no room in your backpack so these are a regular stinging nettles which will sting you they've got tiny fibers up and down them but as an old saying if you graph the Neckar
means get hold of it it won't sting you it's when you brush it lightly against your skin it will sting you but these always grow next to these which are the dock leaf so if you get stung by stinging nettle you crush one of these up and you rub it all over the sting and the two always go together stingers like this and recognize them doc please
all right yeah sounds on me whoa he's done something where's that go all these strange big male covered in moss but they're males yeah it'll be flat ground here yeah because I mean this is just a you know sort of derelict forest area there's a hole over there and it's like rabbit hole almost I was looking for that look that's always this one whoo oh that's not a rabbit at some big and rabbit buddy that it's really very badger yeah this is wearing a badge of set then I would say it must be an old no this one is this one you know this one good that's a bear set all the are they're everywhere they're everywhere but they're not spa be not used now yeah the leaves really rubbish are there but they've excavated all this hole they've made all these males here this is the Badger set in it's their home what yeah I should always go back this one if you could just put your hand down no like all small boys have to do I've just got to yeah Oh suppose you press it here pussy boy that's not pussy kitty kitty kitty
you only count on a pet go down a steep in oh my god what was that 4 feet 5 feet short a link over there no no no no whoa get out Jesus will be run if it came the axes here now he'd be in that that is a huge there obviously there look there's if that pointed that way there's the other hole how stupid is Graham the grown-up poking sticks down badger hole saying they don't live there it's all defunct they're all dead and gone oh no that one's been dug up yeah that's oh wow it's not those down for you I could put it go throw down there go on in and with your hand whispers whispers for this come on whispers
all right some big asshole oh those are that goes back a long way look at this I was like a fungus was in the merch polypore yeah is it that that birch tree but I just saved this this is a pretty awesome fungus that's it do they grow on live or any dead stuff dead burt's usually this one's really old but it's not the one for using fire lighting we have no no birch polyfill there's another one there this is really rotten this one I can tell this trees been done a long time but this stuff usually is all completely white and soft and spongy and it you can actually strop your knife on it it's almost like a nice strong really yeah you can strap your knife on it you can use you can make medicinal plasters out of it you can cut strips often use plasters out of it there's better ones at the other camp my other bushcraft camper sure yeah motor size it they go huge these bracket fungus they're a bracket fungus [Laughter]
[Laughter]
by what is this that idiots a witch's broom or it's the Nimbus 2000 from Harry Potter this is what we use to call years ago a switch when we had horses my grandfather used to have racehorses he was a racehorse trainer my dad was a racehorse trainer he lost a lot of money on horses I don't because I don't get on the horses but we had racehorse trainer when I was about eight ten years old used to help them mucking out the horses and when we used to have the hay moved for fresh stuff we used abuser switch to sweep the hay up some work done is I've bound it all together ideally would be used I've used dead stuff you can use live stuff is there more spring in the live stuff it's more supple of trim the ends of but the reason I've got this guy's is because Mike's other camp is well full of killer sulfur right now full of us Lee it's basically a massive year there's a massive infestation of the southern wooden which is basically the biggest the biggest and we get here in the UK anyway and they're quite aggressive if you if you them I'll give you more details about them when I'm next over there but that's why I've not been at the main bushcraft camp is much more of a winter camp that one yeah and it's also why I'm not taking Jack's there because I did take him there and he got bitten on his paws right in his pads and he's only a puppy steals his pads are really soft and I just it all swelled up then it goes yeah and I just thought that that's not fair on Jack so that's what I've bring him here but that's dad makes a point of that's why you need to come clean yeah clean that's what I figured because we ants like that that debris the debrief you don't get that here so much what the Sun would and does is it takes the pine needles and it's builds its nest out of pine needles and that is why they're everywhere in my coniferous forest whereas here it's all you know broadleaf it's silver birch oh it isn't it's a barrier and there's an IMG one yet only seen an ant we're going to beat him to this with this [Music]
so that's obviously made that switch over there and when I first came here I started making this cooking tripod I made one ages ago before Christmas really this it last year while I was camping under a tree root but very simple to make I've just lashed it with some wraps and fraps as they say going in and out weaving in and out that's really really secure I can well it I can lean my whole weight on it my feet are off the ground and that's a good test with your cooking tribal if you're cooking a whole pig so great thing about tripod is obviously look I can just lift it up take it over here get out of the way make the most of the fire and then if I need to hang something from the tripod again put it back over the fire what I've done here is make a little toggle just write a small simple knot basically a slip knot there and that can dangle down and I've made sure that it's the correct length over the fire before I get the fire going then do the billy contest this needs to be wider than the bail arm of your Billy can if you see that's my Billy can there it is wider so I know it will hang it tuck it in now get the other side and then I can check look it's not over the middle of the fire that's fine I can move the tripod to do that but I now know that that's going to reach the fire it's probably going to need to be a bit higher and to do that to change the height so if I want to raise this up a level I just bring it up here give it a wrap around there come back down and if you look it's much higher now it's about half a foot above it and that way if there's loads of flames coming I can still warm I can i billy and my water up higher nice and easy and very versatile cooking frame
as only a short one this time just we just have a cup of tea now before we go but wise old man bought some pre cooked sausage rather wife get them precooked sausage rolls wrap him in tin foil then bend the leads back round the outside and he can make a little cooking pot if you like of those just move those embers we finished with that cooking for the team but there's still enough heat there by a great amount it makes a little nests there and I'm going to rest those sausage rolls on there to heat up just letting warm up I feel a hot sausage roll will go down well there's a clean plastic cap yeah the old plastic cuts out cheers guys thank you very much and watching the channel obviously we are here at our new bushcraft camp which is now not really so new but relatively new we've got some comments we've come up with a name you guys have come up with a name for the camp and we have decided who is the winner of that competition before we name the camp we have established what the skull was hungry Geoff yeah thanks for all of your comments on that we it is indeed a badger skull so correct answer for those pattern to give yourselves a pat the back those who guess correctly and what we've done here dad so does only have one two three one two three viously if you notice to get out there you will see that it has new fangs that's the one tooth that way and I've made carved out of wood three other teeth too trying to get his best curve and patent as I could that's me another going those those those bottom ones go up into the hole up there you look at the socket at the top and they locate up there I think yeah i Barracuda to Sparrow food it's not in there crushing power yeah amazing teeth it just makes them the jaw look a bit whole because it had to rip one tooth and it is an awesome that to find a tool like that with a working jaw still on there is quite rare yeah yeah so that's really awesome book that's obviously making teeth there you just carve out but that that and no we're not going to leave this at camp because now it's too nice to be left to rock really so I'm going to take this home and keep this one so guys we had over 800 people comment on the at least a new name for this camp 800 entries and we read them all when it took a hell of a long time but I'm just going to read a few out to you guys because obviously if I read over a hundred we'll be here til for four years so we've got badges rest we've got badges end we've got anglers rest with badges halt totally awesome badger base yeah this is one seniors we've been seniors retreat the nuthouse alright this nettle settles camp slasher oh yeah getting the Jack the Ripper there yeah Boosh bushcraft mcboot Bush zero Soria you never saw a gent I like that it's a little berries linked anglers retreat another one for anglers retreat snapped your camp camp quid ta Blues camp snaggletooth it's got teeth all over that yeah badge of bivouac Wind in the Willows camp primrose camp there is an amazing amount guys of Commerce and thank you to everyone who gave your entries to name this camp to be honestly is the top liked comment on the video it's had 112 likes and it goes up his tittie quickly and he says Badgers rest and loads of people agree with him so bad just rest ironically because here badger is resting it's a skull it's not alive anymore it's where its resting place was I think Badgers rest is a good name in honor of naming this camp we hereby totally awesome name this camp that is rest I just rest made out of quality lumps of pallet wood that we used on the fire and I've got a little hook at the back there and we're going to put it right by the table here mice can put a little nail in let me hang up I will always be able to see it on the way in it was summer overgrow we put a slightly different tracking through all those nettles and gasps of brambles and we actually stumbled across a badger set we don't think it's been used it's you there must have been enough agile man there's over 15 holes I'd say it's a bit really big badger set for more about yak sound they would know
in back it's just it's awesome though because we could name the camp badges rest we've got a bunch of skull we found the Badger graveyard yeah it's also is a big area it's a cool camp smells good something's cooking yeah we've got the tea out out out here I'll put it on my trusty cleaver there so I'll have a go guys hot sausage rolls so they are gone yeah they will be on that fire notice notice the old person uses his ex blade so on actually bill cleaver the bill book they gnawed it because it's nice and wide it won't fall off and I won't blow my fingers hmm it's even toasted yes lovely
toasted sausage Rob hmm or why is toasty guys whoa Jesus that is toasted as well cooked thanks things you got the best ones Oh lovely so your favorite don't work on the fires definitely [Applause]
