Quick Shelter in Small Dense Brush Unedited Setup

Description

So I played a little game with myself, I walked along a ridge with a timer, when it went off I had to stop there and build a shelter, in fifteen minutes or less. I had with me an Osni Cloak, a Poncho, a blanket, and a Tarp Accessory Kit for ponchos. The area I wound up in was dense low growth brush, the ground was wet from snowmelt from a recent storm. Winds would typically blow all night. There was nothing edited out of the shelter building segment, it was filmed live, straight through. so right here see how my gear is that right there that's where I got to do my shelter and I've only got about 15 minutes

so even though there's a little bit of trees around here I don't have I don't literally have much to work with and I got to get up off the ground a little bit the ground is wet right there so let's get started saying see right here the ground is the ground is muddy there was there's about four inches of snow here as of a few days ago or so and it's it's melting down so I don't have I don't have much to work with here kind of wet muddy I think I'm gonna do my thing I'm going to put my blanket right here it's a reasonably soft spot all right so I've got a couple choices what I could I could set my poncho up as a house and maybe I'll do that you can set it up as partly a windbreak and partly a ground cloth that way I can it is there are some clouds coming in we could get a little something but it's not terribly likely I think I might I got to think fast I don't have much time I think I'm going to think of it off for the I think I'm gonna opt for the wind block ground cloth combination here so I'm gonna snap my head zip it down and I think I want to get this into position as soon as possible and then I can start figuring out how in the world I'm gonna kind of make all this work right so here we go the sun's gone down so I can thanks the camera West now would I be able to face West just a couple of minutes ago cuz you'd be right in the Sun alright so this is my this is my tarp accessory kit for Poncho's that I used on the last go-around where I did this and I'm gonna use it right here right now and I'm going to put the tents take the shock cord on the tent stake through the tire tab on the poncho here and I'm just gonna that's gonna go down right here and punch it in right here grounds got a lot of clay in it so it's pretty pretty starting here so I'm gonna you know I probably should [Music]

yeah I could put another tent stake over here on the side but I think I want to say that save a couple of them save a couple of them to use takes I need to use some poles or something so it's from here except this yeah yes I need to be back here a little bit you should have brought maybe a smaller and punch over actually I just thought of something would be I'm going to change that tent stake at the other end because I just thought of something here you'll be smarter for me to use this tie out point here in the middle as my with my tent stakes if I don't think I have enough of them normally four is fine I just don't know what I'm gonna wind up with here and I'm just gonna leave that sagebrush under there and just shove that in there now when I pull this up to make the wind block and pulling against a good solid tent stake and over here on this side I'm gonna have my blanket down on here anyway so that side doesn't really matter so I'm gonna go down here and wasting wasting precious time I come down here and change this tent stake out to the other side here wish I would have thought that a few minutes ago could have saved myself some time okay cool that go get it anyway here but that's the times going fast all right okay alright so so I'll give me my platform for my blanket right in here that can go there now I need to get some to pull up for a wind block see forgive me that's gonna be shaky but I don't know we get up here and see what I could find

here's some downed limbs that somebody's that into up here a little bit I should be able to if I really had you liking I could cut off some I just cut down a dang little tree but here okay sorry here I'll be my sticks and get right back down here my sticks in place here get on down here yeah we can do these things put up okay now in this situation we're not worrying much at all about you never gonna do let me go that way I'm gonna saw this off right here okay now I can use this smell around here we go

and all I'm really looking for is I'm just looking for a windbreak so go up here to this next spot here do the same thing again I'll tip my stick upside down then come up here right here's my spot

so obviously if we're gonna rain or storm or something I'd need to do something a little different than this but it's right here that will work just fine just like that all right okay all right I'm gonna kill the camera for a moment and back on because this thing shuts off sometimes after ten minutes all right we're back fresh fresh start here try to get in here where you can see what I'm doing here rush dousing sit and okay we need to take a tent stake here I'm gonna take a piece of shot cord her not Chuck corner piece of escorting here the end you got Swedish hits thing again and I always use I'm gonna I'm putting that time to be showing you this and putting the not below the tie out on the poncho because it can slide on down I don't want to slide down so this will bind down and keep that from sliding down so that's why I did it there okay yeah we'll come back here something like that to tell you this up right now hopefully you can see this I'm going to put this stake right down here right in the middle a bunch of plant roots it's almost brush stuff that's trying to grow I'm shoving it right down in the midst of its root and the reason I'm doing that is the grounds a little soft and so by doing that I'm taking advantage of the strength of the plants or the brushes roots down here too to give me a better grip here alright I've only got well he got a couple minutes left there so to be done with this I've got to fly you grab another cord in here Kord out of the bag another tent stake okay axe I could put that stake in my hoodie pocket on my host knee cloak okay now this guy right here has a fork so I don't have to worry about the Rope slipping it off okay now get out here and now plenty of cord so no big deal I said I want to I want to pull forward but I want to pull pretty good along the length so I can tighten that up good so thick right there looks good so give this do that into here where to go well you know I can shove it right in the middle of all this clump of grass right here

oh yeah that's firm very nice okay I need a different angle again okay so that up there okay now I get up here up here a little ways where you can see like I'll leave my cord still in the still in the Hank a lot of times when I'm tying knots especially like a taut line that you got to loop it around a bunch of times because that way not having to pull that full length out of there all the time all right so now cinch that down okay we're now we're now good on the shelter portion but here again I'm just put that s this up right where I was standing because of all the brush in here I'm going to leave the then we'll leave the camera right there drop it down a little that way you can kind of see the light this brush in here here okay so there's my half here this will be my foot in you know like I've done before hold that under okay I'm gonna pull this out a little fuck I'm gonna put that put that pull so I just put this pull right here on top of there to hold that edge in place alright so there's the shelter they give kind of a once around before I get in so I pulled up my shelter on a poncho in the back staked it down prevailing wind comes this direction I got some poncho under me for that moist ground alright so I'm I'm in here I don't need overhead shelter early but this will be a good wind block for me and a ground cloth and simple little setup in a tough spot here not too bad but hey it's a shelter it's quick it's dirty and it's ugly right I love it and look at that beautiful sunset over there

that's why I like be it out man it's always beautiful in some way or another today is no exception that is just spectacular color up here you
