Snow Camp in Late Summer at 12 Mile South

Description

A possibility of snow was forecast in the mountains so I headed up into the tops of them looking for a late summer snow camp. I used my new Osni Cloak for several sheltering configurations, including snapping it to my Poncho which I had set up as a hammock, with it attached underneath, it became and under quilt. I got out the PD Shelter for the first time since spring, it is designed to be a canopy over a fire. All in all a fun camp, it got me excited for fall and winter camping. well it's mid-september we get snow here I think I'm gonna set up my PD shelter right in that area in that little clearing with my fire and all that sort of thing back here in this grove of trees I think I will set up my hammock and everything between that little stand and that little stand the trees right there all right so I'm just gonna put up my PD shelter I got to put ten of the twelve these d-rings on the pit full see in here it's it's mid-september and it is snowing

well I've got a little bit of some initial stuff going as a core everything up here is very very wet so I'm hoping to that corner will last long enough to dry out the driest of things I could find and help to get me started here well slow and steady it's been about 15 minutes right there but it started to catch a little bit well I got me a nice fire going finally thought a sopping wet wood sitting inside my PD shelter here well it was stormy when I got in here yesterday and man the wind was blowing the snow was coming down it did blow a lot last night I'll tell you what of course I chose to camp on the ridgeline but then when I went to bed I snapped the oceany cloak here up to the up on the bottom side of my my poncho that I set up with a hammock between these trees well I don't know what there is about me but I get on these kicks and I eat the same thing for a while I got hooked on these southern style hashbrowns

like this Johnsonville brought and the nice thing it's I mean what is it like it's just pork sausage really you know man I already like it in here cuz to warm about me it's warm in front of the stove and the back side of me is warm this is kind of a nice little setup here well my little bit of brats is done I put it in here got my egg going it's gonna be eaten time pretty quick here but hey you know it's nice sitting down here like this I got my fire right here I can feel a lot of heat coming from the top down it's nice when you do it just right and you pour that hot water in there it goes off frothy and you just slurp up the froth it's awfully nice I know I have some weird weird things I like probably I know my egg looks nasty I kind of I kind of let it go a little too long I have a hard time cooking I have a hard time cooking because I get started you know you got something's gonna take three four or five minutes it's like I hate to stand there waiting so I go do something and I come back and oh it's too much I was gone a little too long that's the story of my life I just do too many things at the same time it's gonna be a beautiful day not a cloud in the sky anywhere that I can see well there's the view just to left of where I'm sitting eating my breakfast alright I just wanted to show you another color of poncho that we have I've actually got this one over top of our our new Oni cloak which it which integrates the cloak liner to the poncho and it fits any punch all of our ponchos the snap systems off at each other it says it's olive yellow it's kind of a light bright kind of a bright lime green color so well it's mid-september and I'm up here just a little bit under 11,000 feet elevation camping and we got some snow and our ponchos even right from the beginning we planned on there being a system of a system of things to use with the poncho and ways to use it but as you know our poncho series also makes into hammocks and many other things so I'm I'm using it here as a hammock Carlos very closely you've probably seen our Oh sneak cloak which is actually designed as a liner for our Poncho's since as snaps on it to snap into a poncho those snaps can be used to snap on to the punch you want it set up as a hammock so now the ossineke oceany technically Oh sneak the oceany cloak can become an under quilt for any of our Poncho's when you set them eyes up as a hammock I'm going to take this experiment experimental oceany narrow blanket off

you toss that back there on the grounds right now that won't hurt it the snap patterns and all of our stuff all matches each other's and snap this up in here so I've now removed my OCD clock from being in under quilts and it is now going to be a cloak I've got a hood on and I draw the I draw the hood up tight when I put it on as an under quilt so now we'll open that up and now we'll just put it on here now one other nice thing it's an option that you can get a hoodie pocket for the host knee and it's insulated the same same insulation everything as the oceany itself let's just say I got a sit and do a little surveillance here glassing around looking for something you know I can I got the ability to just sit here a little bit with the Oh sneak cloak and still be just fine just like with the poncho if I needed to cuddle up somewhere for a little bit and wait on something go get me a nice soft spot under a tree clean up against a tree and I can sit here and batten down the hatches now I can also I can pull my arms inside of here then I can grab the corners and pull those outside corners underneath my arms my armpit basically it's like this and now I've got I'm ready buttoned in here pretty nicely now now of course I can use any of our punches with this thing even this ultralight still not SIL nylon Realtree alright so say I'm fully in now I'm not multicam I'm a real tree extra very simple yes this thing is reversible this no sneak cloak to reverse it to the other side just shove your hand up inside grab the hood flip it and it's now the new color so one of the nice things about the Oni cloak is it's for one thing it's a standalone item so I can use it by itself like I'm doing right now you know I can sit here and be comfortable be warm be ready to be on the move soon as I need to not be like overly cold well what what we've done here is I've been playing for some time with a some different blankets to use inside when you're getting when you're in the hammock but I want it to be smaller blankets something or just lay right in there with you so this is a knee narrow blanket it's not it's not available yet we're still messing with a little bit but but it's going to be part of the line it's got double sided snaps on it as well and it snaps to the Asti cloak that you're using as underquilt so now when I when I snap this on top of here this becomes integrated with the whole setup and now if you've got a win come up or whatever it's not going to blow it off or something like that so that's all inside of there [Music]
