when you're out hiking and you know that you're going to be needing to build a fire in evening of the ideal things is to is to have a carry bag or a stash bag with you which we're going to display in another video but and you can as you come along you find leaves or dry twigs or whatever you can collect those things and stash them in your bag and when you get to where you need to make your fire you've got a lot of your dry kindling and that sort of thing already gathered and every time you take a take a break to take a breather just gather up some some leaves or something right here we've got even though the snow has just melted in some of this area we've got some of these leaves on the surface that have been dried out by the by the Sun that's facing kind of this hill tides facing a little bit south and a little bit west they take a few of those things and gather them up as well as twigs and that sort of thing now here we are have come up that 1800 feet from where I started up this Canyon I've collected a little bit of some tinder twigs and some dry matter some leaves that sort of thing and sun's starting to go down here and up in here the sun goes down pretty quick once it starts and I look off towards the southeast a bit and there's some black clouds coming in here so i think i'll start off here and get fuel fire going right off and yeah well to get me some water boiling and that sort of thing for the weather turns on me here so here we go well I'm here I've collected my materials I'm ready to get started on my fire and I've got my little little fire lay ready here a little dry twigs and some leaves and got some tinder ready to go and I'm going to strike this thing off here and and get a little something going well we're just got the fire going starting to get a little bit of a little bit of some some coals going in some small stick so I'll add to that a little bit here and we'll get us a little something going and throw a little like a little tin foil pan to cook in and put something on the fire here there's our little fire going and getting started here some of the woods a little damp but I tried to find the driest stuff I could a lot of this area was has been covered by snow as you can see the crossed here and we just got a little barren spot on the hillside here and a lot of stuff over here is still wet we've had some days of rain here and that sort of thing so found the driest stuff I could and of course I always carry my wilderness innovation survival kit and inside that kit we've got us our our fire starter kit which has a belt loop on it and and the magnesium fire starter stick inside of it and so I just use that to strike off the flames and get some dried leaves and some little very fine dry twigs started and then just went from there to some to some bigger and bigger stuff the kit does have some additional fire starting helps inside of it but it's able to get by with with just some of these other things one good thing that I did find was there was a broken-off blog that I peeled off some outside bark and and I stripped away some of the damn players and the pithy inside layer was very dry and very very very good that really helped get things going here
