we shoot on a canon 7d HTC one HTC Thunderbolt and a Canon j12 for the first year of black ow the logo was a penguin the story behind that is when stoning our first starting blackout was designing the logo the owl kept looking like a penguin instead of fighting it we decided to make it the penguin that was the first year now that the second year is rolling around we decided to redesign the logo and actually make it a blackout because the first year was sort of us finding our ground the Penguins there it was funny but we decided to redefine it and make the owl our totem logo what's up Turtles the reason why I've been saying turtles and all the videos was because when we first started black out as an endearing name I was calling people turtles because i was on a nostalgic teenage mutant ninja turtles kick that's where Turtles came from it also applies to backpackers carrying large packs they kind of look like a turtle with a large shell that's where Turtles caper all our videos are shot on public land in Pennsylvania in the forest it would be very ideal if Sony and I had our own property in land shoot on but every video is outside so when you see us outside is because you packed up and came out I've always had a love and passion for the outdoors even from a very early and young age in my life love animals loved watching animal and nature shows and that just progressed throughout my life in school I was an anthropology major and I focused on archaeology I worked as an archaeologist for the Forest Service for multiple field seasons and what that included is me hiking around the forest and sort of protecting cultural resources and recording and collecting diagnostic artifacts I really loved primitive skills I like the nostalgic and romantic idea of looking back in time and seeing how people made themselves comfortable how comfort is a relative thing because living in a house with a you know running water and all this things we take for granted now but how did people stay comfortable during times when that wasn't a no comment and these are sort of just the things like to ask myself and practice and give myself perspective and what was different for people in different periods of time through our existence I've also worked for a conservation corps in Arizona which allowed me to spend up towards you know anywhere from three to seven even longer we call the pitches out all project where I'd sleep in the tent we cooked outside we worked outside

and was basically was outside for half a month at a time sleeping sleeping under the stars

I do blackout because is an extension of Who I am I really love to be outside doing all types of activities it's an endeavor that opens up the world in the universe to me through practicing all these skills learning the interactions between all the resources and the forest geology the plants the animals all of that sort of opens up and gives me a more of an elemental understanding of the world around me you're just being outdoors and seeing how the different processes and interactions take place with everything in nature and another huge part of who i am is i love to teach and i love to share and that's one of the reasons why you see me in front of the camera because most people can tell you i'm not a very talkative person i'm not very outgoing but i love to teach and i love to share knowledge and I love to help people so anything I can do by getting in front of the camera showing some of the knowledge I picked up over my lifetime sharing skills asking people what they think what works for them is really gratifying and like I said I have a lot of activities that I like to do in the forest and doing that on camera sharing what i do outside because i know there's a lot of people that would like to be outside more than they can but I've been lucky enough and I've chose in a sort of a life path that has allowed me to be outside so much blackout is also an outlet for for art I like to create art I always have I've always liked the draw I've always liked to create things whether it be through sewing building and any of medium I've always liked to do art and that's why it's tony has as well that's why you see this more artistic approach that we're taking while the content is very important and the quality is very important to us just as important is the aesthetics and the art of what we're trying to do so that's why you're going to see or putting up a lot of photos on Instagram putting up a lot of content because we consider ourself artists and that's why you know the aesthetics I feel look very great with black out
