hey what's up Turtles it's creek here with black owl outdoors and I wanted to do a video today sort of a channel update and give some background to what's been happening about the past two months some of you may have known others may not that about two months ago I needed foot surgery I was complacently sharpening a knife in bare feet dropped the knife on my foot sever the tendon to my big toe completely and required foot surgery so today is the first time I've been out in the woods since then the first video I've been shooting and I just wanted to give some updates and background to what's been going on with us I'm sort of behind the scenes so first of all we have a new website up black outdoors calm we want to say Stoney is done a really great job putting a lot of time and effort to create this site to really sort of organize our content better which YouTube not I mean isn't always easiest to navigate in addition to the new organized content or just our existing content our videos we're going to be putting up links to articles we find informative or interesting specifically articles that I right or more of like you know just more of a blog type deal or topics i think that are interesting or questions that I get and don't always can't always address in a video and we hope to have at least one or two up a week of new articles on from stony or I and another thing we want to start with the new website is also having a email list or are sort of a newsletter coming out because we have almost fourteen thousand subscribers on our channel but on our Facebook and Instagram you know it's you know less than a thousand followers on each of those so we wanted a way that we could connect with the our YouTube audience and you for those of you that don't want to use Facebook don't want to use Instagram understandable but it's not always convenient for us to do an update and come out and shoot a video for it so we want to start doing a newsletter so check back for an update with that and since I couldn't be out in the woods for the past almost two months I was searching for something that keep me busy and seen while I was going to be inside unable to work in most regards so I picked up a new hobby was leather working and I've been starting to make a bunch of leather shoes for my knives and various other leather goods and I brought some of the stuff out with me today just to show and I'm sort of proud of some of the stuff I've created first off the first sheath I created was 14 my more classic one features a dangler style sheath with a you know sort of a scandi style on folded over leather sheath really happy with this as my first sheath went friction lock for the knife and now looking back on it like I just want to laugh at some of my lack of knowledge if you will the finishes and all that but nonetheless I'm really happy as a first sheath went and I like the color to another sheath I made was for my se4 and this was the actual knife that I dropped on my foot and cut myself with but no dangler but it is a sort of attached belt loop that allows it to sit the top of the night to sit a little bit right below the hip and the belt links I really don't like or prefer my knives to ride high on my hip features a retention step or retention strap style sheath and I was just playing around with different designs different ways to make she's friction retention strap this is the first time I try to retention strap again super happy with the way this came out I really like this color think it came out pretty classy looking and I can see my skills have progressed you know even on this one the finishes the small details much happy with this there's one sheath I didn't bring which is I made a sheath with a backhoe laplander I forgot to bring that out with me but again I've made one for those I again really cool and that chief is actually a present for our stoneys birthday just another some leather work i did is a small just little little bag or her pouch you know fit anything you want i think right now i just i just have a bunch of hardware for for the leather for the shoes and stuff but this was just made out of some scrap leather that someone gave to me and whip stitched all around here folded over the edge for the sort of cord spacing here and this was just the thick leather I actually used for the shoes I don't have any like milled leather or something a little bit softer and more pliable that would make a really nice sort of corridor strap but I'd to skive this down to a little bit thinner thickness and it works I really like the way this look too I like the way this looks really cool what else I was also playing around with wet molding leather and people will do this sort of technique for she's if they want the sort of scandi style sheet but they don't want to completely friction it sort of that in between where it will mold to the shape of the knife and you almost get a quote sort of locking action when you put the knife into it but I didn't make that type of sheath yet but anyways this was just actually hold a lighter might have one on me this is this fun like I said these are just projects I'm doing just to keep myself seen just trying trying new things that's messing around I think it's kind of cool the last current sheet that I meet is one for the brothers are bushcraft bleed and again I'm really happy with this sheath attachable dangler fire steel loop the first time I tried a fire still loop over here this is large enough to accommodate the thicker sighs fire steals I want to think there are eight or nine eight or nine millimeter in diameter but nonetheless really happy with this sheath has really nice to friction lock and it's really tight right now because if I'm going to make a sheet through friction i wanted to be very very tight from the get-go so that as time goes on you'll still have really nice retention in there and this is buried about three finger with deep and really happy with this attachable dangler just practicing just messing around with different styles different ways to attach things different Hardware all that but again really happy with this sheath really like the way it looks and that's basically and that's basically all the things i have with me right now that i made through leatherworking I'm thinking about potentially taking on some custom orders right now I'm in the process of creating a custom kabar Becker BK to sheath Scout carry for a friend that will have a firesteel holder on it there are some pictures leave on Instagram and Facebook another project i started and sort of finished while i've been hurt nursing my foot is this is my first ever spoon that I carved and I sort of called the pooper scooper to see myself making some chili serving some chili with this i really like it really has this nice little palm swell here really comfortable this is made out of birch and i purchased a spoon or a cook knife from ben orford in England to finish a disease of the hybrid handle

and something that had commissioned about in the winter I contacted to contacted an artist by the name of Cara Dow she's a woodworker and Carver out of Rochester New York and I gotta cook Scott came in the mail a few weeks ago this is a made from a cherry borough and just a beautiful beautiful piece of art and very functional going to be using this as the first time I had it out in the woods I'm going to make some tea with it but just so happy when this arrived to drank some coffee drink some tea out of it at home and but this type of cup definitely belongs in the woods this is where it's going to get used I'm going to take it with me bring with me every time I'm out now and one more thing I got while I've been hurt that I'm waiting to do a video on so look for this soon is a new knife that was sent to us courtesy of LT right from LT right hand crafted knives talk to Lt asked him if he'd be into sending us a knife this is his Genesis model I've had a chance to use this for a little bit now and still going to do some more testing on it before I shoot the video but comes with this leather sheath with a fire steel holder does not come at the fire steel holder this is our it comes with the holder doesn't come with the fire steel this is one of mine and this is the knife tool steel not going to really go too much into Excel you will see a in-depth video of this but just wanted to share that look for this video coming up really happy with this nice very very happy with this knife very pleased with it so that just concludes this video for the updates what's been happening with stony and I since I've been hurt I want to thank everyone for watching this video thank for all the support that I've seen on Instagram and on facebook keep an eye out for you know all the new updates are going to be doing all the new videos really excited to push forward starting to heal up now and really excited to get back into the saddle if you will and shoot these videos remember to check out black outdoors calm we're on other various forms of social media as well this is correct signing
