hey what's up Turtles it's creek here with black owl outdoors today I'm going to be doing a video showing how to use and how to actually do a cloak is a Clovis has a lot of applications it's a pretty simple sort in theory and actually to do it but it's effective and can be widely used I know specifically climbers will use it for certain instances you could use it if you're you know one is fasten your steed to the hitching post if you're walking in to get you know a nail or whiskey I'm going to be using it specifically I know a lot of other people use it for this well is the sort of just get an anchor when you want to do sort of lashing whatever the lasting maybe it's just a good hitch to use just to get this piece of cordage to a branch a piece of wood anything you want to lash together I'm not going to go too much into depth about lashing in this video I'll show really quick in principle but to start to do the clove hitch hmm there's a really easy way to remember it in the first I got my tag in here i'm going to make one loop you can see my tagging is coming over a static end on this first loop looking like that and i'm going to make another loop here and my sin my static and working in is behind what i've done here and that's important to know you see tagging is over on this side behind on this one and then to do the clove hitch i'm going to cross the front loop the first one I made it's in my left hey I'm gonna put it behind the second one I made and follow me the ground I got a pieces I got some sticks down there I'm going to put it over now holding this in my hand I'm going to slide this through and just tighten it up then and that is that's essentially the clove hitch and this is a really long tag and say for instance if you don't know what you're going to be making for the first time you don't know how much quarters you have maybe it's not important you can have this extra waste but if not I can just push this through a little bit while trying to keep the hits neat I don't want to and just work that and then I'm just shortened this and that's a nice tight clovis now what this has done is effectively it's just made an anchor made this secure to a piece of wood and what's important about I think learning all knots and hitches is yes it's important to know how to do it and little tricks to help you remember but the most important to me if I'm learning any new skill or not is to really understand why and how it works maybe I don't or maybe I can't remember how to do how to do this I can't remember you know the little dilute behind blah blah blah I can't remember that in a pinch in a survival situation maybe I'm flustered I need to do this quick and i can't remember that so what I really want to ingrain and myself when I learned something new is why it works and how it works because maybe I went I might not get this close it's perfect but if I understand the principles of how it's keeping it secure I can maybe just come up on the spot you know make something up on the spot modify it and still be effective but it might not be an actual you know defined hitch or not but I'm going to do this one more time one just one more time I hand them make the loop I my piece of rope cordage here I'm going to make one loop as such make another loop like here put the first loop behind the second one and then slide it around this piece of what i have here

and then tighten it you can and you can sort of see the how this works and why it works I have my tagging coming through here moving as I'm moving and the stand the working end over here and as I tighten that I'm going to keep it step separate as you can see this piece of quarters that's running over both ends is what keeps this secure and then I want to make it neat and push it together is where I keep it but that's effectively why this is keeping it as one piece of peace the cords coming over both ends and keeping it secure and that's important to note for me if I want are going to learn this and learn the principle apply this working it's because this piece of quarters is coming over right here it's coming over both of them and that's what's keeping it securely to this and if I want to do a simple lashing go go back to the ground simple lashing is basically using a core piece of cordage wire rope anything you can think of to you know secure two objects together and so for instance that like I said we're not going to into in depth with it too much with the video but if I wanted to lash these together particularly may be let in this style if I was meet you know I'm going to make a save ipod for instance wrap it around both ones and then take this and this is where the strength comes in the lashing and then that's securing this right here and then I can do a clove hitch over here if I want which you don't need to do the loop and trick if you can remember what how you're doing it and why and this is a really long piece of cordage but if you don't want to cut it anything like that take myself and effectively you know I have a little bipod here if stony and i are shooting you could use this as a brace pump taking a picture of a camera for instantly take my camera item up a tripod i could use this to brace my hands off the ground if i had a file using a rifle i can make something bigger i could set my rifle my bottom eye rifle one here to give me support and steady my aim has a lot of different uses this is the simple short demonstration and the principles behind lashing in a cleric and this is creek signing out with black outdoors later turtles
