The 4th video in the 10 things to do with a wool blanket. In this video Fozz of Forrester bushcraft demonstrates how to use your blanket as a coat or cloak. This is a brilliant way of keeping warm during the cold seasons. the method is very simple and requires just your blanket two stones and a short piece of cord.

My favorite time to apply this technique is around the fire on those cold nights!

hi guys what we got for you today is I'm going to be showing you the fourth use of your wall blanket today what I'll be showing you is how you can use your wall blanket as a hooded cloak okay so the first thing I need to do is arrange my cloak my blankets how I want it so this is a rectangular blanket and I want the two longest sides to be horizontal against the floor okay so I've got that arranged and what I'm going to do is I'm actually gonna work kneeling down so it makes it a little bit easier so the first thing to do is bring this up over my face and I want kind of hanging down a little bit just to keep the wind on whatever off my face or if it was really rainy or snowy that would be really effective at doing that now kneeling down to kind of support the weight of the blanket a little bit because what has what tends to happen is as you stand up this wants to fall backwards under its own weight so I'm going to put that over there hopefully you can still hear me

under all this and down here I've got a piece of cord and I've got a couple of stones and that's going to form kind of buttons of my cloak so I want the buttons to sit roughly just a chest height just where my shoulders meet my chest here okay so to put those buttons in what I need to do is push button number one through the blanket and just pinch it like that now this bit is a little fiddly so before I do int do that what I need to do is actually put a clove hitch in one side of my cord okay so I've done a video on how to do a clove hitch so I'm not going to talk you through that now and I just need to pull push that through and that rock will then make a button and as I said it is a little fiddly and occasionally it drops out like so it just requires a little bit of practice to do this a clove hitch first we'll just remember that then pull that clove hitch tight around that rock making sure it doesn't slide out and once you actually got that in you have a really firm button okay nice and time a tear into it wonderful okay so there's my first button and what I need to do is with my second rock like to do the same on the other side so I'm gonna start by putting that Clell pitching again on the opposite side roughly to where I want it not there now there's no real way of judging the length of this you just kind of got to play it by ear I should doing it and pinch that and you have to start working left-handed here pinch the rock there force that clove hitch around it as I said it is a bit fiddly cross wall is not the stretchiest of fabrics it just makes it a little bit trickier

and there you go you have a holded blanket so I can now put that down if I want to and that holds it nice and in place it's a little bit long so one thing I can do is if I take my belt off I can bring the belt around the outside so that all my tools and stuff are still accessible like life in the pocket I can bring this around tighten the bolts where I want it don't put too tight because you don't want to compress all that air underneath it then you can pull all this additional fabric through so that now you can either wrap that around yourself to keep you warm with the whole up it's like so but if I need to my arms stuff is still free to use my tools or do some sword-fighting if I really wanted to on my cloak so there you go that's really cool because it keeps you keeps nice and warm right down to your legs just watch that it's not dragging on the floor too much the belt things really useful I'm quite a small guy so this blanket does come right down to the ground well honestly that is really unrestrictive it there's no weight on the back of it especially with that that belt around the outside there as well as I said you've also got the hood if the weather's bad I've made that a little bit small actually that hood there or this bits probably a bit a little bit too high this should be a little lower down but it's all just about adjusting it to as and when you need it the only real problem with this is a lot of places like where we are today I actually that's really gone a bit of a hunt for a couple of rocks so you can just find little alternatives I think probably some coins maybe a couple of copper coins will probably do the same trick and there you go that's a simple cloak made from a war blanket that's going to be nice and warm particularly sat around a campfire at night brilliant stuff thank you for watching guys
