Description

Taking a look at the SuperLight Hammock from DD, at the time of filming this I've been using this particular hammock for over a year and it is an incredible bit of kit, apparently the lightest in the world! Ideal for lightening the load of your sleeping system, extremely comfortable and pretty hard wearing!

alright guys what I'm gonna be taking this class today is a product that I've been using for just over a year now superlight range I'm really looking at the DD super hammock and the DD super light tarpaulin I'm gonna do them in two separate videos just you know in case you look at one or the other but I'm gonna won't load them hopefully at around the same time we'll start by taking a look hammock and this hammock is seriously impressive now before I start it's worth mentioning to people and burn into this as a person who doesn't really obsess over lightweight gay I don't obsess over my gear and equipment too much but as a product I am seriously impressed with this and I was looking off to have this sent out to me by DD and they actually asked me to do and a review or recommendation on this I really really value them as a company because one of the things they said was if it's a terrible product please don't be afraid of giving a bad review they still wanted me to send it to them because they are honestly concerned about how good how and how well their products perform and I have to say after about a year at use this thing has been incredible particularly this one I've used the hammock quite a lot because it's demonstrate now and it's so small you can shove it pocket yeah Bourjos the pocket out a little bit well that means in that pocket I have somewhere to sleep and somewhere to sit particular on day hikes and things but it's also excellent for sleeping so let's have a look at the specifications of this itself so this is the hammock packed up in the stuff sack that it comes in and on the front it's got an image of how it should be set up it's got the DD logo saying that it's the superlight range and it's got some specifications here so the hammock is 2.7 by 1.4 meters which is the standard size of their hammocks it weighs in practically nothing three honest it's 200 grams they're 280 grams sorry it's impossibly light I mean you wouldn't even know this is in your power it's available in two colors this is the olive green one but it's also available in a bright kind of yellow I think it's called sandstorm yellow and the cool thing about this particular hammock is that it's applied with a Whoopie sling suspension system which is really easy to customize but I'm going to look at that in a separate video I'm looking that this is a standalone product in this particular video and you can see it literally look how small it is it's this the same size as my hand and it really is imput incredibly light and very very easy to put up so let's actually have a look at putting this thing up I mean there's not much to say about it this platform but seriously look how small it is look how impressive is that you know and most the hammocks pack down to about this size and like this thickness so you know it makes a huge difference not just to the weight of your pack but to the actual you know space within your pocket allows you to carry our much much smaller pack for your sleeping system so I'm going to go ahead and put this thing up by putting one side up just to show you pretty much how quickly it goes together oh it's not just the soft Caribbean as well it's these brown things and the Whoopie swings are constructed of us a type of cord called am steel which I'm not too sure in the specifications of I don't really it's not my bag to read into these things but I did a little bit of research just for the sake of this video and supposedly it's the same same strength as steel which let's be honest cordage that's pretty impressive mine are a bit tangled up here obviously when we get it new out the pocket okay if you've not used these worthless things before it can take a little bit of getting used to but once you've got the hang of them they're dead simple as long as you don't do what I've done see the last time I use this it was kind of raining by my shirt it shipped it away quickly okay so start by putting socks up was up I tend to work a lovely Shona mate so got that wrapped around the tree here next thing I'm doing is feeding

this part here is like from that oarfish order we'll have a closer look for that on this side so that's one side up of the hammock itself now these trees are quite thick so I'm actually unable to put these these soft rock or carabiner things around more than once or these things or way of the cold I'm not sure what part this is but basically I normally wrap them around it's free twice book actually reasons to use today so once you can see the kind of they grip on really nicely he's been pulling that down that isn't going to go anywhere

someone next days is to take this I think it's actually this bit which is the soft chuckle carabiner which is basically a piece of I'm still with a knot in one end and a loop on the other end that loops adjustable to shorten and lengthen it as need be so I just want to feed that through the two loops put the loop over the knot and then yeah just make that loop smaller to make sure that I'm not copping out there we go that's not gonna come out of there it's just gonna tighten up as I put weight in it and now I can adjust the the actual way that this hammock is suspended it's a little bit close to the floor at the minute and that's going to be done using this AM steel system here so the next thing to do is use as we clever really clever a suspension system here and how this works is it's a single piece of cord which comes through the hammock at this end up and then it's kind of woven around itself as it comes back around so this cord here is what's dangling out here but it's one piece and this thick area is what constricts itself so that it is actually unable to move in this direction but it's easy to show something going this way so I can make this loop shorter and this bit holds in place I hope that makes it makes sense is it's really simple but very very clever and find it quite difficult to explain it but the way this is gonna work is I'm going to pull this loose bit of cord she's just dangling down towards the ground and this loop here will get shorter raising the hammock so as I pull on this cord it gets shorter but as I pull on this this area here constricts on itself so I really can't pull on that and it makes it's very very clever very very simple system really impressed with it so in terms of the construction of this hammer QC is it's very very well stitch I think it's nylon nylon thread that's used and you can see hopefully as the light comes to do this that the rip stop design of this material and there are four of these attachment points along the length of the hammock which are in fact for use with the DD under blanket which is another product I'll be looking at at some stage it's a little bit warm for that in a minute it's a really excellent piece of gear but yeah that's that's what these attachment points are for so let's have a look at the actual you know space within the hammock and see what it's like to be inside it into this well before I do that there is one thing that is worth noting about this particular hammock this particular range is the hammock doesn't come supply with a mosquito net there is one available specifically designed for this and it is tiny it's a really good design and it just like sits over the over the hammock I haven't managed to get my hands on one then yeah I am gonna be getting one probably buying one hopefully sooner so we'll have a look at that once I've got it but yeah otherwise it's it's a great hammock so if you know if you're worried about mosquitoes and bugs and midges get yourself one of the mosquito nets as well that's a little bout 30 quid and I've seen it in use of the bushcraft show and different places really really well worth getting so get into it standard mess of getting the hammock woman first

don't panic about the freaking and in we sit now it's the same size as the other DD hammocks it's pretty spacious inside and it's the weights kind of design is once you're in it you can see that these walls come right up so I'm actually not too worried about you know falling out of this at all it's nice and breathe what's very thin fabric so I found it doesn't get too sweaty in there and you know it's really comfortable one thing you can't do with this is something I've seen worse a little larger hammocks which is getting it diagonally you can to an extent but it's not quite room enough for it to be honest you don't need to do that punch it in in the hammock you're in it and it's got that that tiny bit of stretch in it which is actually really really useful because it means that with some of the other hammocks that I've used I found it because they don't stretch they really taught you can get this taught like that but I prefer not to and it means that my slidy polyester sleeping bag doesn't slide along this sliding ion and don't go out at the toe end which is something that I found to be a bit of a pain with similar Hamlet's I've not actually had back home at all with this hammock itself so there you go guys that is the the DD superlight hammock an absolutely amazing piece of kit and that like you know hopefully that should mean a lot for me because I don't obsess over gear and I don't obsess over the weight of my equipment at all so you know I'm thoroughly thoroughly thoroughly impressed of this it comes everywhere because just weighs nothing asking shove in the pocket for sure that your side pipe out to the bag you know at the minute today it's just out in the camera bag so and I put the pack with me today it just takes it no weight whatsoever and it takes up no space in that bag at all really nothing worth mentioning anyway so as always thank you for watching in the description below I'll put a link to DD the DD store where you can get this from I think the price of it is about 52 pounds and give or take and what you saw on that and it just say on the site it's a little bit more expensive than their other product because the fabric costs more and they also said it's a little bit more difficult to work with just very sliding and I think that's really cool of them you know they've said if it's crack doesn't give it a crap review and the Faunus about the price and things so to me that that means they're just an excellent company where you have any issues with them at all just contact them and they'll be back back in touch and the day they're an absolutely amazing it really really really kind of fond of them and the way they feel as always thank you for watching and please like - like subscribe share comment all that kind of stuff and once again cheers for watching guys
