A firemaking trick for low-quality punkwood and wet tinder

Description

Sometimes you find "hard" punkwood that isn't easy to get going with a ferrorod. And sometimes it's raining and your tinder is wet. This is a trick to deal with both problems.

okay this is an old dead log and there's a lot of punk wood in here and clunk what it's going to work really really well for starting these fires I'm going to take this piece I'm sure you how it works because there's a trick to it you can't just put this down and hit it with your Ferro rod and hope it's going to take but once you see this trick you need this whole thing to become a call so you're working in a really small piece here okay and Johnny's made you some Buster but the first thing is to make keep it underneath me so I'm not getting rained out because I need to make dust because if I try to just strike this not going to work so I'm using my finger now to start creating a little dust bowl here and I'm going to let you do it and you keep going until I have a really nice little dust bowl and then your other piece you can have ready because what you're going to try to do is to strike down into your dust bowl and as soon as you get a little bit going it's just a little tiny one and you have to nurture it and feed it to on it you're going to blow the dust away but if you take some of that extra dust and you carefully put it on the side of it it's going to grow and grow and grow so first of all you dig a good good bowl here with your finger now and then you can try to strike it and then you let the dust go go go and then that Gus you can put it into your just put the whole thing into your tinder bundle and when you blow that dust is going to generate enough heat slowly slowly if you're gentle with it to actually take this and then once this is going you'll be generating enough heat just ok Dean that out dry that out do i do something with the other piece of wood or does it only take one the other piece of wood this is really small so you might need that other one of the backup to put in there once this whole thing is going that whole piece of note is going to crack folder this whole piece of oil starts molding and you got to start it from that dust bowls and again so thinking of possible no you want to be really nice left for try not to let it fall out of their finest best you can manufacture nice like precious little gold stuff differents like trying to do it two marrow you don't get much yeah you're able to roll it more push consists of four top yeah how are you sick you don't have to do that I'm standing over Thomas I'm dripping maybe I'm keeping it to book one that's right in all the powder okay i just left that girl from a little bit good that's starting to grow all right jack that some nice gentle folder tell me when good creative can't really reach a book Hamura him on that too much to time i get a chance to become a few are pretty getting pretty robust okay so that you can start putting key let's give him the daughter yeah you can try keep seeing that powder time now you have your opinion in pockets all right yeah this part and a delicate is that enough that's not powdered okay you're pretty good and some little bigger it down that makes a little piece there you've got a chance to go and then when you put it into your tinder bundle the top of the finger bun will kind of have to hold this powder down that make sense otherwise still in danger just blowing it off away even drop like that lands God disc region have to game out just tender looking to that everything silhouette like I and then kind of yeah put the rest of the spot around and everything real gentle here ok tiny stuff you've got on there yeah yeah Matt your vibe I want to celebrate yet fire walking I'm just going to put this but they're not okay good good because it's actually getting kind of cold with a city [Music]
