to mex an amazing plant gives us one of the funnest and most delicious wild edibles out there and today we're going to learn how to make sumac aid which is its own thing it's really not quite like lemonade that's usually what people compare it to but it's super easy to make and it's great for kids and families if you're taking them out on a survival or bushcraft adventure it's a great surprise to bring some sumac aid back to the camp and they won't believe that you crafted this just out of nature here's what we're looking for nice dark red clusters you can just rub your fingers over and taste the acid on there what acid is water-soluble which is what allows us to make sumac aid it also means that when it rains on these it's going to wash a lot of that off these have been out a little bit you can see some Brown over here but it still has plenty of flavor after its rained on it a few times some good soaks it's going to decrease in flavor so there really is a prime time to get this harvest is simple I use one container for gathering and for making the sumac aid it's kind of heavy to lug around in the woods but I'm not walking far to harvest the sumac so we're just going to gather these clusters put them in there you don't need to stuff it down just gather enough to fill it I've moved away from that one that had some browning and I found some that have a really nice really nice red color to them if you have a knife along its may be easier but they come off so nicely by hand that a knife really isn't necessary

that should be good next fill it with cold water you do not need hot water it's more work and it gives you an inferior product cold water and stir it up really want to mush it around in there and give it a good mix thank you you'll see it change color right away but we're still going to let it soak in there for about an hour usually stirred a few times during its hour long soak but it's probably not necessary next we're going to pour it through some cheesecloth and then pour it back in is it good yeah is it good the ultimate ases tell us what you think some people add sweetener but someone here doesn't think it's necessary huh you like it
