Woods Parkour Tutorial, Precision Jump
Description
The precision jump is a basic parkour technique that can expand your woods movement capabilities. Here is a beginner's tutorial on what you can use it for, and how to learn it.
Like any new exercise, start small. Short, low jumps, focusing on precision vs. distance or height. Increase your jumps slowly, and be aware that over time, multiple landings from higher jumps can be rough on the knees. Train smart, not hard.

I know I have a really diverse channel audience here so I want to make it clear that I'm not gonna go crazy into this woods parkour stuff I'm gonna hopefully follow this one up with a video for some of you who can't get outside at all due to medical reasons but for those of us that people go out in the woods and jump around a little bit adding a little bit of parkour to your skill set can make a huge difference and I'm gonna go over one of the most basic movements that I share with students out here they can really be a game changer when you're out in the woods it's called a precision jump and this was taught to me by Griffin henwood who has been a student of mine but I've been able to be a student of his in the parkour um amazing movement guy and I found that it has a lot of uses like what why do I need to jump around in the woods so one use for instance is if there's an area where there's a lot of stuff on the ground it allows you to jump clear over that area maybe using something like a stump here as a gateway it's a bridge to get across an area that otherwise would make a lot of noise and be breaking a lot of branches and precision jump is relatively quiet another use that I often use it for is when there's a barrier in front of me I'm going along and there's a fallen tree or something that obviously I'm gonna have to clamber so it's gonna be really really loud you develop some tight it's a distance with your precision jump often you can clear right over an obstacle like that I've used it for getting across water this is a great use if I don't want to get my feet wet and to me I feel like I can get often more distance with a precision jump or at least more confident distance with a precision jump but I can by running and trying to jump over something and when I say confident you'll see the precision jump is all based on really learning to put your body where you want in a very controlled way and that allows you to move over some some obstacles that otherwise might give a lot of trouble it's basically just a tool for neatly clearing obstacles I can easily climb over this right a precision jump just gives me another maybe slightly neater way to do it okay I'm gonna teach you how to learn the skill you can use anything you want as a target but it's important from the beginning to have a target just like if you're gonna learn archery or firearms you really want to start to shoot not for a broad landing area but first pinpointed in area as you can this targets even a little bit big for both of my feet to land on so if I had something a little bit smaller or a little round rubber thing that would really give me a target that'd be ideal set this down and you don't have to be far away from it doesn't have to be big jump at all at first when a precision jump I'm starting from feet together solid area and the bend down and let my legs go back I'm getting ready to utilize my legs and my feet to launch me okay now there's an important element here and that is that I keep myself in posture if I arch like this if I'm looking down at the target arching the other way I'm gonna land off I really wanted to try to keep myself alive please go back to generate power and as they swing up my legs and my feet tell me on to the target I'm trying to land with the balls of my feet directly on that target again now that you've been good alignment instead of my head looking down my eyes are looking down in other words my eyes are like this tracking the target that allows me to keep my head aligned so don't get into this kind of thing align arms legs landing the target like this you can then put it further and further away
remember when you start from stock it up a little bit try again Griffin you're talking this he thought of you talked about kind of attacking the landing there's a lot of times what can happen is I do my junk but I'm thinking hide you've had martial arts training kind of know what I'm talking about you I'm thinking high up what balance is all ah I stayed on but barely I think like my feet are going to attack that target then I watch boom they land hard they land solid so having that target gives you something that you can move further and further and further away from you at intervals that allows you to practice never move it further away and you feel solid with because precision just like in the name is really what we're looking for here just as important as precision is height for height you have to set up something that's gonna give you a variable height jumping target I have a really elaborate setup that I sometimes use your students but here play this all I did is I took three golden rods strip this one and because of the way goldenrod leaves go I have this nice little variable setup and if I hit this it's so light it's not gonna make any difference I'm gonna put it on this side so if I hit it they'll just fall over that way and then you can start low and work yourself high don't forget your target once you land that one remember you can start a couple inches off the ground then just keep building up this is real nice because it gives you a lot a lot of levels just build up to the height that works for you cool thing here is that if you hit it nothing's gonna happen just falls down nobody gets hurt and if you get confident and a height like that and out in the real world you can try a height that's half that over a log or something build up your confidence because one of the things that's really gonna hold us back there's a lack of confidence so if you train up your confidence with this and then you can always scale back half way when you're going over say a hard obstacle you can that target there all the time that's gonna have you landing with precision you practice this indoors you can practice it outdoors just remembering as you develop your height and your distance try to develop those together and always make sure you're shooting for a precision target I always like to try to make sure that my landing is solid too it's really easy to go and be oh yeah I landed that one that was great
no I didn't land that one really need to hit it and stick and that's where even if you won't do a gymnastics finish or something make sure you feel solid then get off your target and practice again when you get confident with it one or two feet away from you and move it out six inches keep building that keep building your height and then start to take it into the real on two steps over little obstacles it's lots of fun she's young a precision jump if you already do precision jumped you're more chips I posed in in the comment if you try it out and you train into it tell me how it goes if you try it out in the real world let me know how that goes too is all kinds of fun things jumping from branch to branch that you can do loads of fun it's a cool tool to have in your tool belt when you're moving through the woods thanks for watching
