good morning it's a little cold here today I'm up near mammoth to see some fall colors but why they didn't tell me about fall here it's that falls actually winter so right now it's race for me to get from my car to where the Sun is hitting the mountains for mid-october I had no idea that we would actually be hitting 16 degree temperatures of course I checked the weather online before going but you never really quite remember how cold it is until you step outside on a cold day after a long warm summer [Music]

the fall season is easily my favorite season you know I know Andrews is spring a lot of people's our spring actually but fall something about the leaves the cold air it's gonna like Twilight with sunsets and you have the golden hour when everything is just orange and beautiful that's kind of what it is like for the year before before night time for winter yes I believe this is Aspen at least that's what all the web sites told me before I came here unlike much of the country fall in California isn't quite as ubiquitous throughout the state sure you'll have a handful of broadleaf trees that change color along the coast but the best place to see color is near the eastern side of the Sierras [Music]

in particular the Aspen's are the trees we have to thank for that the word vibrant doesn't even begin to describe the neon yellow and oranges that are reflected in the sunlight and a quick hike to parker lake from the trailhead will give you exactly what you need this time of year there's even an alternate route to Silver Lake if you want but what truly makes these Aspen spectacular are their fall colors paired with the dramatic granite cliffs the Sierras [Music]

I think if there's one thing that hiking in California has let me appreciate is my own independence in a way now some of my friends think it's you know it's sad its lonesome you know some people really dread just driving by themselves at night and doing these things alone but I'm hiking with the guys there's a sense of camaraderie that I don't feel anywhere else but on the flip side there's this feeling of self-reliance maybe that said I think it's kind of accentuated when you have fall colors and a cool crisp breeze so you feel the elements around you a little bit more all right well I think it's time to go back to the car don't know how I'm gonna do that but I'll figure away [Music]

much like the season of fall in California my time at this place was shortened sometimes all it takes is cool air colorful leaves and a calm lake to reassure you that ends are cyclical for everything that comes to an end something new must begin maybe I'm reading into all of this too much but it helps me get through the day [Music]
