so one of the great tenders in winter is goldenrod they've got these big fluffy seed heads that are just pretty good at lighting up it takes a little bit of effort sometimes but a lot of tiny little hairs that are dry and flammable so I'm going to get to collecting some of these and you usually find these in Meadows open areas things like that but it's not until late fall that they actually become fluffy one of the best Tinder's in winter are cattails and of course these fluffy seed heads you see them throughout most of the year but it's not until the late fall or winter that they actually get really dry and great for tinder and the nice thing about these is that all the dry leaves these make perfect kindling so once you let your seed head you just throw a bunch of these on top and you got yourself a fire so wonderful thing about nature is that in winter everything is dead dry and perfect for starting a fire and that's when its coldest and when you really kind of need a fire so like the goldenrod they don't flour until really fall so during that time they're useless as tinder cattails you can try what that fluff is gonna be really moist and milkweed is just gonna be green until fall I don't know if there's some grand design and everything or if it's just luck but these plants are perfect dry good for lighting one last really good source of tinder for the winter although it might be a bit late in the season now is milkweed it's a great thing to eat in the spring and summer butta these pods also contain lots of nice fluffy seeds inside so I'm just going to collect some of these invasion of the body snatchers got a big bunch of small sticks here for kindling got all our cattail fluff and leaves and then a single milkweed pod because there wasn't many good pickings and a bunch of goldenrod fluff so I've got this cattail here and I'm just going to open it up so that it gets really fluffy so it'll catch a spark really easily and then I'm basically going to combine all the tinder together so that we can spark it all up oh it's all kind of blown away but you can see how just how fluffy it gets and probably see it better than I can actually so part of the problem is it's really hard to see but even with this good tinder it can be hard to spark sometimes cattail fluff tends to light up really quick so you need to have a lot of good kindling whenever you spark something it's super bright so then when it's dark again you can't see anything at all I think I need to collect a little bit more we kind of just stuffed a pocket full of this stuff didn't prepare super well
