Hello my name is Lilly and I am making videos about primitive living skills, survival, bushcraft, camping gear and prepping. I consider myself being a modern hunter-gatherer who wants to live as close as possible with mother nature and right now I am in the process of learning how to live off the land and thrive in the wilderness. hi I'm Lilly and today I want to make a video about how to make fire with a fire steel

so my first technique that I used was this technique here I was holding my fire steel a little bit above the tinder but a disadvantage of this technique is that the fire steel the spark of the fire steel they cool off while falling down and later I was using another technique I was using the fire steel like so hold it very tight in one position and then I pulled back the fire steel just like that but this way you have the same problem the sparks cool off while falling down and the sparks don't concentrate on one place you know they fly around and quite a big circle here so after that my best friend survival Mike on YouTube showed me how to use a fire steel correctly and it's very easy actually you put the fire steel directly into the tinder and you take your scraper and scrape down the fire steel like so and this way the sparks concentrate on one place and it will be very very easy to get a fire going so now I want to show you which Tinder's you can ignite with the fire steel ok first here I have copper let's try out the first technique it's working because the cotton is very fluffy okay the next thing I want to try is fatwood fatwood is very rich in SAP which is very very flammable and it makes one of the best natural Tina okay first I'm going to scrape off some fat wood here small pile of fat would see with this technique here the fed would just wouldn't ignite because the sparks are too cool when the hitter tinder and they are flying around and they are not concentrated so now I'm going to try a better technique I come very close to the tinder here and there we go it's burning very easy two or three strikes the next thing that you can ignite is magnesium if you have a magnesium bar with you it will be very easy to start fire the magnesium shavings they burn really really hard so now let's shake off some of these on here

magnesium is burning very good but it's not natural and not available in nature so now I'm going to search for another tinder which you can use for the fire steel I found that verge lying on the ground and first back it's very good when it's time to fire making because it's very rich in oil let's see if these pine needles here burn as well okay pine needles are not burning with the fire steel because the surface area is just as small okay next I want to try and ignite some 36 okay first I'm going to carve off the outer layer of wood because this wood is still a little bit moist and I really want to get into the core of the branch here okay as we can see the fire steel can ignite drive wood shavings very easily and the fire stream is also very versatile and that's why it has become so popular fire steel is one of the most reliable fire making methods and I really can recommend the fire steels by the company light my fire foxy okay I want to thank you for watching don't forget to subscribe like and share follow me on Facebook Twitter and Instagram and stay tuned till next time bye
