Hello my name is Lilly and I am making videos about primitive living skills, survival, bushcraft, camping gear and prepping. I consider myself being a modern hunter-gatherer who wants to live as close as possible with mother nature and right now I am in the process of learning how to live off the land and thrive in the wilderness. Thanks for watching ~ Survival Lilly

Video Transcription

I'm Lily and today I want to try to make a bow-drill out of freshly collected wood stay tuned okay right now I'm standing in front of some poplar trees and poplar makes great wood for the bow drill because it's very soft and now I'm looking for that branches which I can use for my bow drill set okay back in here I can see a dry branch which I want to saw off now with my path or hand folding saw okay this branch here is looking good it's a little bit rotten but not too bad so now I'm gonna cut it in half and take it with me in my rack whoo-hoo just having a birth now it's empty

- rubber

perfect

okay let's drive to the background camp now okay I want to take them he's not as fireboard okay next I'm gonna use the poplar Brown to a spindle okay now let's craft a notch here the notch is not perfect but I think it will work

it's forming an ember I can't believe it yeah yeah I did it that's awesome so today I finally made my first pro drill with wood that I have freshly collected and I'm very happy with it now I feel much more confident and I think I know the reason why I made it today because I have tried it twice before this video and I failed I was using password on password and poplar on poplar but these very soft woods they would only produce a very coarse dust which wouldn't ignite to an ember so then I figured today that I wanted to combine two different sort of woods the hazelnut is a little bit harder than the poplar and this way you have more friction and you get a very fine dust which is very important so I'm very happy with the results from today it actually worked the first time so I'm very very happy with this and soft wood is working great I tried my first bow drills with spruce and pine which is much harder and it's it's taking more power and energy to make a bow drill but with soft wood it's just so much easier I want to thank you for watching if you like this video leave a like or a comment and if you want to see more subscribe to my channel bye I gonna try it again
