Homestead Food, Hot Weather and Happy 4TH of JULY

Description

#america #homestead #selfreliance

Happy Independence Day to my American Friends. I appreciate our relationship on a personal level as well as on a national level.

It's hot as hell up here right now so in this video you can listen to me whining about the weather and making excuses why I haven't done much on the forest kitchen this week. :)

everybody Shawn James here for my self-reliance Callie is panting away here so hopefully can hear me above her panting it is so hot out here it's over 33 or 34 degrees Celsius today and with the humidex it's about 40 degrees so that's over 110 I think Fahrenheit so we'll just brutal and for us Canadians we do get warm weather in the summer but when it's sustained heat like this it's not something that we easily adjust to at least I don't and this is kind of cells kind of weak and and whiny considering especially that I used to be a sheetmetal tradesman working on commercial buildings up on a roof all summer long and all winter long so minus 40

or I guess minus 30 would be that limit work at in the winter and plus 30 degrees Celsius in the summer it was just commonplace it worked all day in that but here at the cabin why I guess what I push myself when there's no real urgency to get this thing done it's perfectly functional right now I could live here full-time all winter long based on what good things I have the infrastructure I have now everything from here forward is an improvement but not a necessity except for maybe food storage systems which I want to get into shortly I want to talk more about that I spent some time at some farmer friends of ours this past week and I'm going to make a couple of videos on that since I am in a forest can't really grow much crop here hard to raise livestock with all the Predators around and there is a limit however I will be able to harvest most of my meat from the forest from the surrounding forest most of my fish from the surrounding waterways and I can get a number of the vegetables fruits especially raspberries spoke to come into season here but a lot of it this year in particular I just will not be able to to be so self-reliant self-sufficient so we are continuing to buy things like fruits vegetables and some of our meat from our farmer friends and in that way we get to support the local community support people who are passionate about doing that with their lives that would not choose to live this lifestyle they choose to live sustainable farm life Stalin step which I love is well and I've done that in the past and probably will do a little bit more in the future especially around here but anyway that's what we're doing for food right now I definitely definitely will be doing more and more of that on this channel but in the meantime like I said my focus is living off the land learning how to live more connected with nature and what's available to me here in central Ontario Canada but why am i releasing this quick video right now on this particular day I just want to wish all my American friends a happy 4th of July Independence Day I know it's a big deal down there as Canada today was for us up here a few days ago in Canada and I really really appreciate a relationship that we as a country and as individuals have with our American friends and love that you guys are tuning in to watch me do what I'm doing here so I I really really appreciate that but more than anything I want to wish you a happy fourth of July and I look forward to seeing you back up here on Friday so take care have a good one we'll see you then
