everybody Shawn James here for my self-reliance and today I'm talking to Kemper Kristina and we're talking about once you're camping in a teepee that she made from scratch herself with some help from her dad and this is her hot head set up for the winter it's quite cozy as you can see and we can ask you a couple questions talking about the cost of winter camping on some of the other videos in this series it's quite expensive together once it's in there get it to get a winter camp set off especially a hard time so Christine is created with hot tent from scratch with materials you can buy at a hardware store so you can tell us what materials you have here in front of me how much the total cost is that you have into the set of course they're simple they're transferred steel poles that I got from Home Depot and I think they were about 87 if you spend $10 apiece that's me about $100 for the pole just electrical conduit one inch three three-quarter inch electrical conduit yeah and the canvas is painters drop cloth they did two packages is the biggest that I could find they were about $48 a package and sew them together to make a piece that was 12 feet by 30 feet which is actually at the base of the teepee and run 30 feet around the bottom and the stove is Tron princess Otto's $99 on stamp in the lot of velcro and thread and that's about it I think the new material we just added brand-new cost me about $75 it's plastic coated canvas and I put that on the bottom because they're having a problem with the snow sticking and ice freezing to the bottom and making big clumps and forming up the tank putting it away it was really hard because it was get soaking wet so I'm hoping that that solid yeah sure - roughly ten feet inside maybe a little less depending on the depth and snow how far the poles go down I would imagine and how far apart of course you have them yeah it's a good amount of space inside some of the smaller like one or two man tent this one a little bit too cramped central stove is great but because it's in the center you have a little less flexibility as far as moving around so I think the size works first before you were mentioned you're gonna have somebody else in the tent would for you next week yeah camping busy for the first time in the teepee I'm gonna do my first backcountry camp with it not going too far that's going to give it a try and see how it works so feel bad on either side you make me sick about it you notice you have two sleeping pads and they make your tarp to fading pads and a piece we can make you the star wives on that and any other tips you have to stay warm at night generation you need underneath you because I am laying right on I have the chart to keep everything dry and then I have to summarize on top of each other just for some extra information on top of that I have over 50 bags with the minus five Jacqueline that I use and then my bed that I sleep in which is either about minus nine or my my my extremely is 20 depending on the weather so I haven't had any problems at all so I guess it's working you ever tried it without but I haven't made it to so far so good so you're taking something with you on your next trip you do a lot of soil trips as well and all the advantages and disadvantages are for you to be for cancer I've always loved camping that I didn't go for a very long time because they didn't have people as always and a lot of my friends they're not into it well you know I think I'm crazy who wants to go outside and campanella right holidays until you try it very well and so I have met some people on social media that I've been for me some bonds with to go camping with who is one of these people to buy with next weekend Ashley from young outdoors but generally I do trip by myself there's a lot of reason throughout other than having somebody or having somebody to find to go with them you also have to have a schedule that matches you have to have the same availability for me now that I live in Muskoka it's very easy for me just to pack up my stuff and you know within two hours I can be on the road heading someone I don't need to check with anybody or make sure that somebody's off work I can go on my own schedule I can do whatever I feel like doing whatever I feel like doing it and it's really peaceful and I really enjoy it I was scared at first but um I feel like over the fear and you just kind of enjoy it and want to winter campus Christina said so why don't you want to go you want to go it you don't want to wait for somebody else to get up to speed or populated of the weather right clothing and then they're a danger to you know they put you on dangerous they're not prepared or they don't know what they were doing yeah that's true actually it brings up a good point - do you have any safety tips or safety gear set up that you bring you need to you if you have a first-aid kit that I bring a lot of extra things extra clothes several pairs of socks later I always keep tucked in my with Ron sorry but in the winter things react differently

sometimes it's hard to get a lighter going so long just simple things like that you have to learn the tricks and once you get them you good to go good point the letters to like area with multiple layers you'll find them and usually somewhere on in my upper body in a jacket pocket or something and I also have one of my pants and then I have them stashed throughout my gear generally prepared to carry heavy gear so bringing some nicer meals and a dehydrated dehydrated melsek you have on a backpacking trip for example don't have to do that you can have proper meal so what do you like to do for some time I'll cook up a bunch of food like a roast pasta and some gravy and I see some little containers and literally I just take them in here and put them on the stove and pop it in the pod and give it up

very simple a lot of times it's hard Lashon said you know you have the cold your hands get cold you're wearing gloves all the time and actually physically cook things up and you know crack eggs and make sure they're not both and inside I've make omelettes in advance

just put it in the pan and warm them up anything they can do ahead of time very really helped for me thanks again for watching if you want to tune into Kemper Kristina's a facebook account on Facebook as well the common Facebook intricacy column on my blog and a Kristina Sherman's and Twitter but if you - I care for Kristina I'm sorry I complain much find anything am I bye-bye

[Applause]
