Killarney Late Season Hot Tent Canoe Trip - Rare experience!

Killarney Late Season Canoe Trip in a hot tent (teepee)

Watching the weather forecast nearing the end of November, it was clear that at least one last canoe trip was possible before the lakes froze over. David Lee graciously invited me to join him for a three-day trip to Killarney Provincial Park, where we hoped to find open water and solitude, a rare thing in Killarney’s front country.

Arriving at the park on Saturday morning, we were pleased to find little snow, no ice and a vacant campground – we indeed had this section of the park to ourselves for the weekend. We didn’t see another person until we left two days later. The lake was calm, completely ice-free and the forest and exposed bedrock were almost snow-free as well. With temperatures hovering around freezing, the weather was perfect for hiking to the top of the highest ridges.
