NOT Alone with My Dog at the Log Cabin, Wild Edibles, Wild Life, Hugelkultur

Description

This week, my sister and niece and their golden retriever, Charlie, join us at the log cabin. The two dogs tire themselves out playing in forest during the dog days of summer, while moose feed in the marsh, bears eat my blueberries and raspberries and toads eat bugs.

I start piling decaying logs into a hugelkultur mound in preparation for planting garlic this fall for harvest next summer.

I set up my Goal Zero solar panels to charge the GZ Yeti power bank and I collect more water from the roof in the wine barrel.

Thanks for watching! New videos every FRIDAY.

so it's now mid-august what is it August the 13th and the bugs have subsided they have been mostly absent not completely absent but a lot more manageable for the last you know two to three weeks I'd say since the really dry weather started one of the things around here that helps control them though is toads we have a ton of toads on the property more than I've ever seen before in one place so that's a snake that I showed you Kali playing with a couple of months ago snakes would be here eating the toads and the toads are eating the insects so I really like having them around but they're literally everywhere like as I'm walking around working here I have to watch out there's small ones and big ones and and just a really rich ecosystem of course and they're breeding down in the water down below so it's what's unique about living in a forest is that you really get to experience nature the way it's intended to be it is more natural so that's what I like about living this ways that just get to really connect deeper with nature I've always spent a lot of time in the outdoors but to actually be full-time immersed in this kind of thing is really special [Applause]

so the blueberries are doing great this year we got just enough rain in the last what two weeks maybe for the berry suraíh perm properly but also the raspberry set I filmed about a month ago or ripening now with that rain as well so better late than ever it's August 7 8 8 through 9th right now so that's typical time of year for the blueberries to be ready but the raspberries usually here or July so glad to see them finally ripening and I also see that there's been a bear hanging out down here again going through the Martian and feeding on the berries there so the domestic cultivated blueberries are a lot bigger these are tiny but they're sweeter so I'm gonna make that into probably a syrup or a jam or something to preserve it because I don't want to eat all those right now obviously like to spread it out through the year and enjoy them in the winter so I'll dehydrate some and quite a few actual dehydrator locks I'd like to add that to a lot of meals throughout the winter and I'll make some jams or something that I can put on pancakes and stuff like that so dehydrated jams syrup and hopefully that of it'll be ready soon I can make a fresh pie with these so I'm gonna get back on the roof I think tomorrow morning finish off the cedar shakes or cedar shingles before it warms up and then that'll be at the kitchen will be watertight so I can start working on the counters and the sink inside in the meantime thanks for watching this one I'll see you up at the cabin next time take care
