ladies and gentlemen we are here at the southern terminus of the pin hodie trail we have three hundred and thirty five ish miles it is Monday February the fit we're about to get this show on the road see the problem with thru-hiking the pin holy trail is they're just not really any information about through hacking the penalty trip so including where the trail is so it's a lot of guesswork [Music]
so far the trails off to a really good start it's nice that right off the bat it's not walking when the the road apparently we have a lot of Road walking coming up
[Music]
so it's only two miles in but there is a shelter on the penalty truck and this is the first one this might be the only one it looks like people want a whole lot of stuff in it like an ashtray that's nice and the lighter clothes and a chair and a pad and a saw so it's really nice it's sort of unnecessary because it's only two miles in it's nice so there's that [Music]
alright so we just came out of the woods or doing either five six really sure in the woods on the trail and now we are officially on to the road walk
you
[Music]
so it's day two last night we got to the end of a 12 mile day and then we came to this intersection and a Dollar General and there was a fellow by the name of Tony and Tony said that he would take us to his property which was only about a mile and a half maybe two miles up the road and that we could pitch there for the night and then if we got up early enough he'd drop his back off here at the trail then we could start hiking again so we are back on a road walk looks like we have about seven more miles of road till we hit bullpen and then we're back on trail and we should be back on trail I think until we get to Georgia good morning another load walk so again thank you so much to Tony for let us crash on his property and giving us a ride back super awesome southern hospitality I like me some Alabama so far people are very nice well we went through a few neighborhoods and now we are finally off paved road back in the woods I'm like a gravel dirt road so it's still road but it's not like road walking it feels more like you're on a trail so according to our guide that we were using we were supposed to keep walking on a dirt gravel road but we actually got to a certain blaze and it took us back on trail and the sign says it's about 11.2 to bullpen gap which was supposed to be our road walking to there and that's where we're supposed to pick the trail up so I think this might be a new section of trail that every source that I found doesn't include lunch time a little bit of a trail guacamole so avocado inside of avocado trail walk jalapeno Fritos oh yeah [Music]
[Music]
gate 3 it is thunderstorm and pretty bad out a lot of water came in last night don't know how much foaming I'm gonna do today
I'll product them a little bit later but time to embrace the suck and hike on after some technical difficulties this morning we are back on the trail it's almost 3 o'clock and we're just now started hiking so to fill you guys in a little bit on what exactly happened was last night my filter my Sawyer squeeze took a crap on me I put an outreach to the pin hodie trail Facebook page and somebody responded and this morning at about 9:00 a.m. toad and I got picked up at bull gap thanks so much to Brian you were a lifesaver man thanks for helping me get the filter taking us out for something to eat and giving us a place to dry out the trail is like completely flooded as you can see it's a lot of it's like a big waterfall
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
so it is about 4:30 and we're just about done for the day looks like it's going to end up being a twenty mile day camping down in a little gap tonight [Music]
super steep climb right out of the gate this morning whoo that mountain in the distance there is what we climbed down from yesterday into a gap we were down at the base of it and then in half a mile we climbed all the way back up to top and we're still not done it's still quite a bit of a climbing left so gee aha national forest wilderness whatever you want to call it some hardcore hiking I gotta give it to you babe huh that's hard hiking this is one of the hardest 17 mile days I've done in a long time you want to hike some hard trail come out here in Alabama and hike the Chi huh wilderness do it promise it's good training especially if you think about hiking the 80 would be excellent training today is day six and started the day out with a bit of fog we're supposed to be getting a lot of rain today
some thunderstorms tonight and then I think it's gonna be that way for the next day as well so pretty crummy hiking but
that's what it's all about mm-hmm that's nice the worst thing about hiking in weather like this is always [Applause]
how slippery roots and rocks are I like that one
so it's cleared up a little bit today not as foggy starting to warm up but I think the rains still coming the Slender storms are still coming tota and I have decided to split up and kind of hike alone throughout the day and then meet up you know for lunch and definitely at camp but yeah that way it's just a little bit easier he can hike his pace I can hike my pace that is the third stream that we have forwarded on the pan hodie trail which is crazy because like there was no stream pouring all the way until Maine on the Appalachian Trail I highly highly highly suggest the pinho tea trail yes there are road walks but really I mean day one there was a 12 mile road walk and then whenever I get into Georgia they'll be more Road but I'm telling you what ever since I came off that road on day 2 man it's it's just awesome out here oh also the rain still holding out trucking polls cross that uh it'll stay docile so I just got to this gap there's a road down here and somebody has left me trail magic it says Darwin toasted toad it's magic time thank you thank you thank you so much to whoever left this so far man the pin holy trail community is awesome you guys Rock thank you whoever left that it is much appreciated [Music]
good morning it is day seven yesterday was a pretty awesome day I didn't film towards the end of the day just because I was kind of excited to get into camp so we actually got trail magic twice yesterday as you seen the one on the trail and the other one was at the end of the day I came into a gap and there was a tent set up with brats and beer and a tarp to put my tent under for the night and it was awesome thank you so much Jared it was awesome man it was awesome company it was awesome trail magic it was a great place to sleep for the night oh this is officially today it is a week out here on the trail and I believe that we hit mile 101 as where we step off and go into f1 so we just got down here to Heflin Alabama and decided to get a hotel room for the night toad has decided that he is not going to be continuing with me on the trail I'm getting off just this wasn't one of those high except there's just not enough day like for me too I'm a little slow within the rabbit over here it takes me longer to do those miles and hike in an hour to every 90 get caught up and sup just just isn't gonna work this time so I'll be back out there later everything else is good and wish Darwin the best luck on the rest of the hike
you
About the Author
Darwin Onthetrail
At the end of 2014 my wife Snuggles & I decided to quit our jobs, sell 95% of the things we own, & leave our home town for good in search of adventure, culture, & the true meaning of happiness. We bought a van, traveled all over the country & hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (2189.2 miles). We are still seeking adventure in new places, meeting new people, trying new food & drink, & discovering all that we can.
This Channel has developed into a main hub for aspiring hikers & current hikers to gain info on a wide variety of Trail Topics. With a series of Trip Videos, Q&A, Tip Videos, & Gear Reviews, I aim to get you out on the trail and hiking more!
