day 8 start of a new week passed mile 100 so getting into that next hundred sadly yesterday toad made the decision to get off the trail so I thought I was gonna be solo from here on out but to my surprise I've had someone join me on the trail
Leonidas yeah he's gonna be rockin by like maybe 100 miles yeah thank its for flawed days yeah next 4 or 5 days maybe 100 miles of the trail with me so it's nice to have some more company out here [Music]
so the trail is down under there somewhere a lot of flood out [Music]
yeah the trail is pretty a water logged out it's pretty flooded has been for quite some times we're kind of I could do fog or Swamper I know what do you call it down herring stuff this swamp swamp Marsh bog there it is it is day 9 back out on the trail after a pretty good sleep last night got to stay out of the rain got to stay dry which is always a plus
we still got a bunch of this awesome pine forest we've been just kind of cruising through
and it looks like we're gonna be getting into some more Mountains Duggar Mountain I believe is the the next big one so we've entered the duggar mountain wilderness which is supposed to be where the trail gets not so easy anymore start actually going up in quite a bit of elevation and that looks like we're at about 15 14 and a half miles left for the day trainings not so bad so far we're going up a little bit in elevation but it's definitely not gonna be as flat as it has been [Music]
day ten so we just popped out on to the chief with diga rail to trail so it's one of those old rail beds that are converted over to a big long bike path and paved trail pretty swampy lots of water lots of water yesterday lots of water today and it's probably not gonna end anytime soon got some mountains in the background swamp over to this side and rail trail up in holy trail just keeps getting more and more and more interesting today should be crossing the state line into Georgia whoo
pretty excited about that and then I think I have about 10 more days on the trail that'll be it hopefully I'll be walking on to the Benton Makai Trail and finishing this guy up so this fine piece of trail is called the pits you can see kind of just keeps going down into these sinkholes from up top [Music]
[Music]
so we're sitting here taking a Liberty break-in Hawkins hollow shelter right next to a real nice stream and they've actually hooked us up with some awesome trail magic got some Pringles and some saltines no big thanks to whoever left these snacks here have about 5 miles left for the day so it's definitely good to get some snacks get refueled before we start heading up the mountain and crossing out of Alabama so this is kind of our last our last little treat from Alabama so thank you Bama you have been an awesome awesome section of trail ladies and gentlemen I have finally made it to the Alabama Georgia state line Thank You Alabama for your good trail you're awesome people and well the weather wasn't really that great thanks for that anyways [Music]
it is day 11 add a little bit of a trail walk out from the shelter this morning and now we are walking down it seems to be kind of like an old forest service road it's supposed to be a lot warmer today actually have some blue skies which is a nice change of pace and walk in the road so we just got into the trail town of Cave Springs Georgia the trail actually comes right into town comes down the sidewalk and somebody on the pen holy trail Facebook page named Kristi reached out to me and set us up tonight to stay in a camper so we just got done eating some food dropping our pack off in the camper and now we're gonna go find some more food and resupply a little bit and check out town and then take a shower so again an holy trail community continues to astonish me absolutely grateful and amazed thank you so much Kristi you're awesome the trail provides good morning it is day 12 and we are walking out of Cave Springs Georgia we had an awesome night last night stayed in the camper got some awesome trail magic that was in fact the camper ate some good food in town had some pizza drink a couple beers it's obviously morning and resupplied and now we have a really really long road walk out of town anywhere between 25 and 30 miles is where we're going to try to get to today it's all roads so we might as well get off of it and yeah today's probably gonna be pretty boring video wise because this is all we got to look at right yeah [Music]
[Music]
so we just got off of the road that we've been walking for almost 19 or 20 miles on the road paved road and we just turned on to the Simms Mountain Rail Trail as you can see over here or it started and looks like we're gonna be on this for about twelve miles Simms Mountain Trail Rail Trail is an old railway bed that was converted into a trail so for twelve miles we're pretty much it's gonna be walking this old rail bed it's pretty nice you can see right in front of me that is what it looks like and we're looking at like a 30 maybe 30 plus mile day I think at least 30 so it's two o'clock one o'clock we don't know we keep flipping back and forth in time zones so we don't really know what time it is whoa mile 200 the pen holder so we are here we made it to the end of the day today and ended up doing a 32 miles so 20 miles on road and 12 miles on trail actual dirt trail so pretty wore out got the ideal hiker hobbled pretty bad most of it was road walk about 20 miles of it was road walk and in the last 12 were all rail trail which is technically trail it's dirt it's a dirt path and then some actual trail trail and we are waiting on leonidas --is wife and kids to come pick him up because he is departing good bye everybody it's great with you yeah man thanks for coming out and hiking a great time it was awesome

About the Author
Darwin Onthetrail
At the end of 2014 my wife Snuggles & I decided to quit our jobs, sell 95% of the things we own, & leave our home town for good in search of adventure, culture, & the true meaning of happiness. We bought a van, traveled all over the country & hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (2189.2 miles). We are still seeking adventure in new places, meeting new people, trying new food & drink, & discovering all that we can.
This Channel has developed into a main hub for aspiring hikers & current hikers to gain info on a wide variety of Trail Topics. With a series of Trip Videos, Q&A, Tip Videos, & Gear Reviews, I aim to get you out on the trail and hiking more!
Hike On,
Darwin
