how we doing today now the woods with my kids and i happen to come across a couple wild edibles i wanted to get on film as you know it's it's springtime now everything's starting to sprout up and the edibles are coming out so i like to get some of these on film so i can introduce a lot of them to you so if you hear some kids in the background i got some of my kids out here but hopefully that won't be too loud and disturb us don't go away be right back alright guys it's to thwart as you see there's three separate sections of three tooth leaves flowers on top are usually white kind of pinkish the rootstock of this plant can be used as a horseradish supplement

alright guys this is a kind of a different plant I want to first start out by saying this plant leaves stem rootstock deadly poison this is one of those plants we're kind of like pokeweed end times there are some edible parts of it you just have to be extremely careful I actually stay away from plants that can be edible and can't be edible and potentially can be deadly in certain types of year I just don't like taking chances but this plant is actually called mayapple and this is a young specimen when it actually there's a whole bunch of it around here and if you could find one that has a fork and a split it will flower and then that flower will but out out into an apple and in certain times of the year obviously for the namesake of it in May only for a couple days or a week that that fruit is just right just root just ripe enough excuse me and it'll be a yellowish color that like I said this is one of those things if you get it too early it's bad for you get it too late it's bad for you so I don't like to take chances there's parts of it in Peterson's guides that it can be made into jellies and and stuff like that and if you know fruit juices and drinks and cold drinks let's look at this is one of those things where I would rather be safe than sorry not mess with it at all this is in a Mandrake family actually American false Mandrake if anybody you reads up on Mandrake's some of them have been used as the loose engines but they are deadly poisons so stay away from this plant boys alright boys this is another edible here this is a wild lettuce and if you break off one of these here you'll see if I can get it in focus here obviously stout white latex liquid that secretes even in the leaf here you'll see it now rule of thumb with wild edibles is that you're not supposed to eat anything that has that white latex but wild lettuce is one of those things is just completely the opposite it's okay this is an edible plant it is good beaten raw if you can stand a bitter taste the young shoots and leaves obviously would be better but the larger leaves can be mixed into a salad or bold once with a change of water great great edible alright guys will help you enjoyed this segment on wild edibles as much as I enjoyed showing it to you thanks for your views comments a sport you see on the woods you
