Traveling Northern Europe 4x4 Ep01: Rooftop Tent Camping The Netherlands
Description
Our six month journey through Europe up to Northern Scandinavia wilderness has begun. All our hard work building the Jeep has paid off and we are gradually getting use to our new home in the vehicle.
This video is about four days into the trip and we have made our way up to a campsite called Camping De Roos in the East of the Netherlands. There is a prequel video of our journey here and an overview of the gear which will be up soon for those who are interested. Also for those of you who followed the Jeep build I have filmed a final overview video for you of all the changes, mods and kit I have fitted. We are weighing in at 2260kg fully loaded.
Thanks for watching and see you in the next episode.

so here we are still in the Netherlands we laughed
yeah Hans woodland earlier today we were gonna go across the border into Germany but we've run out of time and decided to come here and this is a campsite we'll camp there Roos and it's a very old cam so I think it's been here for a long time and it's a very nice campsite we've got here just as the holiday season is over so it's pretty empty and we have our pick of where to stay and we chose this spot we're out of the wind we have some trees a bit of cover to put the tarp up an infinite amount of caterpillars raining down on us all the time but it's a really nice location and the weather's kind of changing we had some glorious Sun the last few days I've had it easy and now the rain is coming in and we're getting some lightning storms and stuff as well so it's been pretty good so far this is day four and everything seems to be running smoothly our setups changing a bit every time as we become more experienced and our systems kind of fall into place as it to be expected really I thought that would probably happened we tried to pack as best we could before we left but there's only so much you can do when you start doing it everything really changes so we're about to sit down have a curry Meg's kicked up a amazing curry tonight got some rice and just gonna chill out and enjoy the evening and then tomorrow hopefully it won't be raining so much and we can get the laptop I do some video editing and our setups come together pretty smoothly so I hand my darlin here yes why isn't it with the relentless rain we decided to have an early night hoping with tomorrow the weather will be better try out a little bit leatherwork it's a bit wet because it's been wet formed yesterday and the stamp would say Lisa just drawing the Sun it's a Mike he is in the kitchen there yeah it's a cup of tea time right we didn't prepare a flask before we went to bed last night the fatal mistake isn't it yeah it's still clunking hold on then unless your mug I think it's under the truck filled with defile this is the stove we're using made by camping gas this was about 34 pounds not very expensive there was a better one that was about 70 or 80 pounds and it had much faster jets that were better for fuel efficiency because we mostly use it for hot water and just just cooking in the evening really in a bit of breakfast and everything now I think about it we probably should have spent the extra 30 guys but it's okay it's really good and the wind hasn't the fact that it much just got a grill to Hobbs and seems to be okay we'll see how long it takes us to get through the gaps [Music]
one thing I've noticed while we're here is the amount of caterpillars there are even the last woodland we're in year hands woodland the oak trees and some of the Hazel's there weren't that many Hazel's but just ravaged by caterpillars and the floor is blanketed in just Casper oh crap our tarp is just covered in it this morning the roof fence cover the trucks covered in it and it's just coming down everywhere I've heard cuckoos as well and the cuckoo actually eats the hairy caterpillar strictly it's like a it's his diet basically as his food sources a hairy caterpillar and and the hairs get caught in the throat lining on the cuckoo and it can actually regurgitated throat lining to move on to its next and that regenerates and then it eats more and we haven't really got cookies in the UK anymore because of all the monoculture we have there and you know basically agriculture you're planting one thing in a massive area and you're just destroying biodiversity and they do have farming and stuff here but obviously just there's a type of Caterpillar that feeds on oak and it's just everywhere and the cuckoo obviously eats that because we've heard them twice now which is really nice because you don't hear it very often anymore so Megan's got celiacs disease which means she's gluten intolerant so wheat barley rye even menthe vinegars she has to be careful oh she gets really ill if she eats them that's why we have separate oats so these are you know of the made nerve place where there's no chance of contamination from gluten we just eat simple foods and means I eat healthier as well really because we don't need any processed food we never have so we've got a little bit of cured meat on board it's just doesn't need refrigerating and you can also buy smoked cheeses and things like that as well that don't require refrigerating either you just want to keep them in the box keeping them out of the Sun in all honesty and then then they're fine say Vasko of the way we eat and we usually start with day with some porridge and it keeps you going till till late into lunch and then yeah just a little bit more of something and then the meal in the evening and three meals a day and that's generally the way we go but this is ready Maggie whenever you are looks fine to me
sorry I've put water in the pan now I'll redo it do you mean you redoing yeah no I'm just gonna let me pull the water out of that pan then you can put it back in your chewy oats and spotty complaining [Music]
so how's the leisure battery very big battery split charger 240 volt converter at the bottom needs a little bit of work I need to find a shop with some cable with some wiring and do a slightly better job of that we ran out of time where you can turn that on I'm getting a laptop charged up fully people like
well I'm gonna do some editing now get this video created this will be the first video I've made actually on the laptop plus we've been out here and this is a nice place to do it the laptops got quite a lot of battery and will go and charge it after that more if we need to but yeah we'll see how it goes we thought we'd just share a bit of our experience with you before we left the Netherlands and went into Germany I think we're gonna spend a couple of days here try and find our feet with a few more things we're still adjusting stuff still moving things around in the vehicle and yeah getting comfortable so thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed this video I'll see you soon in another one take care
About the Author
MCQBushcraft
I'm a UK based outdoorsman who started hunting and fishing with my friends when I was young.
Educating yourself about your surroundings and having the core skills to sustain yourself using your environment is a lost curriculum in the United Kingdom. We are well provided for, so well that "why do anything if somebody else will do it for you". This lifestyle has drastically disconnected people from having the knowledge and skills required to spend even one night in the woods and not get hungry.
I love being outdoors and have never lost the desire to learn and practice skills that I get a sense of natural connection from. Hunting hangs controversy in the minds of many, but in my eyes there is nothing more natural if you choose to eat meat. I appreciate that not everybody hunts in moderation though.
Thanks for reading
